yeah, dragonfire has its issues (like the worst cliff-hanger of the shows entire history) but you can see in it the origin a lot of the ideas that would go on to be refined in season 25 and 26.
'Are you some kind of idiot' - love it, makes me laugh every time that line. This scene is pure DrWHO at is best brilliant dialogue, excellent delivery of the lines and performances all round, and special shout out to Edward Peel he is fantastic as Kane - love how he towers over everyone in this scene - fantastic

@@NotContinuum to be honest part of me hoped that Mel stayed on a little longer as I liked the 'odd couple' contrast between those two in this story...a bit like Lister and Rimmer from Red Dwarf. Also would have been interesting to see how Mel's character would have developed in season 25, which was an improved season.

I would pin this as the moment Classic Who fizzled and New Who began it's creation. Just look at this cheezy set and that spectacular effect. The 7th Doctor's writing after his first season would begin a more serious approach to Doctor Who as well as better sets.
This was about the time Dr who was fighting a losing battle on life support and some in the BBC were looking for an excuse to axe it. The next series it was moved in the shedule to be up against Corronation street a battle it could not win.
In the story Kane can kill people by freezing them with his hands because he's super-cold. But that would mean the opposite would be true too; touching a warm human being would be like one of us sticking out hands on a red-hot iron bar. He's deadly cold to us, but we would be lethally hot to him.
Or the other way around. It wouldn't be the first time Who inspired a few ideas for Cinema. Case in point, 2001: A Space Odyssey replicating the technical effects from The Dalek Masterplan

The scene that terrified me the first time I saw it. I didn't sleep for ages after seeing Kane melt.

Such an underrated story, one of my favourites from the McCoy era.
This scene freaked me out as a kid. Just saw it for the first time in 25 years or so. Creepy stuff.

They clearly weren't worried about frightening the children. My guess is that the budget wouldn't have allowed for a longer shot.
