    Ron started using this drill tonite on a very unforgiving table, lol... 4.5x9 with I think 4inch pockets may be a lil smaller. For me personally I love doing drills, but this one takes the cake. I guarantee if anyone practices this drill I know it will help you to the next level and possibly beyond!!!!! Thanks Ron!!!!!

      Thank you Casey, love playing on the big tables 😊
      When I first joined a league two and a half years ago, it was on a nine foot singles league where I took first.

      As for this exercise, you are correct as this is very helpful to a player’s eight ball game.
      Have fun with it and please give an update for how you do during your upcoming competitions, I’d like to hear how you do.
      Thanks again 👍🏻❤️🎱

    Excellent your showing people how to think shots ahead. Some times I think 4 shots ahead with shot or leave.

      It’s surprising how many players don’t do this Norman. It’s no wonder they get stuck then can’t run out 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Great video Ron pattern play is solving problems early on that way you can get to the win if you can’t solve it hide cue ball to get ball in hand

      That’s great David, it’s a good one for sure.
      As I looked at my first run out, I should have actually shot the opening shot into the other side pocket to avoid drawing into position which made me have to use that inside english on shot two.
      It’s also great to video, (as I always do) so you can visualize the mistakes.
      Thanks D 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    Ron, been watching for awhile now, but first time to comment. First of all, thanks for all the videos and your time putting them out. I really like this video because although I've been playing for many years on and off, mostly off I found myself picking the same run outs. This tells me that my hours of watching is starting to pay off, I just need more table time in general.

      Thank you for watching and for your feedback IAATR. I really appreciate you dedicating your time.
      As far as running out, I’ve found the key ball to be of most importance. Back tracking from the eight and it’s key ball, this opens a player’s eyes to the pattern in general. Once that pattern is recognized, it’s then just about execution.
      One more thing; on those tougher spreads, walking around the table, to see every angle into the pocket, is another great practice we should get in the habit of.
      Thanks again for the first time comment 👍🏻😊👍🏻❤️🎱

    Hey Ron , great video.. I’m learning that in my pattern play , I try not to stress myself when I’m looking over my table spread . I just go at it in baby steps trying to keep everything close at hand and yes ..the key ball may change along the way , to get me out ,On my 8 ft .when I play on a 9 , I definitely am trying to go East and West because of the length . Thanks for the video!

      @ronthepoolstudent  Před rokem +1

      Thanks Gman 👍🏻
      Btw, I feel it’s much more important when ALL balls are on the table. This is when precision is at a premium to stay in line.
      If there is an open pocket for every ball, including the eight, we can then expect to run out if we stay in line. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

    Hi Ron, I’ve been doing this exercise since I’ve been back playing this great game, try playing no ball in hand. Try to run three racks then add another ball, repeat…thx for all you do

    • @ronthepoolstudent
      @ronthepoolstudent  Před rokem

      Thanks Mike, when I was a D player two and a half years ago, I began building up to run out in nine ball by first starting with three balls. After running thirty straight, I did exactly what you’ve said here. From there, I would then add another ball and repeat. It’s a great way to condition one’s game 👍🏻

    Hey Ron, notice you use a real wood stick often, same here. How am i supposed to switch to plastic when the ones i idealize the most Efren and Earl have never made the change. Theres got to be some real hardcore advantages to sticking with wood opposed to carbon fiber (plastic) however what are they?

    • @ronthepoolstudent
      @ronthepoolstudent  Před rokem

      I’m not a carbon fiber player Hank but I’ve found the Jacoby 11.8 pro taper CF to be very comparable as a low deflection cue. This being said, I will continue to use my maple Z3 11.8 shaft. The reason I won’t switch is primarily due to the fact I’ve grown up using it in my short two and a half years as a player.
      Since I’m shooting very well with it, I see no need to switch to carbon fiber.
      I don’t want to go through the learning curve 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Btw, I know of one pro’s sponsor that won’t let them go back to maple as they require the person to use their carbon fiber shaft…that says a lot to me.
      The bottom line?, it’s really up to the player however.
      Thank you for your question Hank 👍🏻

    Ron, I find in my game that I go to plan "B" alot . Usually, because of not getting the leave I wanted. Do you change your planned run pattern often ?

    • @ronthepoolstudent
      @ronthepoolstudent  Před rokem +1

      When I’ve successfully run out Ral, it’s when my plan came together. It’s when I deviate, that’s when my run out percentages get reduced.

  • @AndyMorrisArt

    How do you pick the "Key" Ball?

    • @ronthepoolstudent
      @ronthepoolstudent  Před 5 měsíci

      Thank you for your question Andy.
      The key ball should be a ball that positions the cue ball in a place where the final ball can easily be pocketed. For instance, I look for a key ball where I need only to pocket it with a stop shot if possible. From there, the final shot should be easily pocketed.
      Thanks again and hope that helps 👍🏻

    How come sometimes you use open bridge and sometimes closed? I found I can get more power with closed bridge, but it feels unnatural. Just curious on your thoughts

    • @ronthepoolstudent
      @ronthepoolstudent  Před rokem

      I don’t even think about it actually PF. Both work great and I couldn’t tell you if I used a closed or open if you asked me a few shots later. Typically though, I use the open bridge when I want to see the full cue for shot alignment.
      As far as closed for power shots, I’ll sometimes power stroke with an open as well.
      Additionally, maintaining a super loose grip allows for plenty of finesse power with more control I’ve found. Hope that makes sense.
