    I have 3 AC "M" from late 30s to early 40s. Most time in the spring my mag wont fire due to moisture. I remove the front cover and clean the points and she fires right up.

    I've seen a lot of guy's put little 2 and 3 cylinder Detroit diesels in Allis Chalmers dozers slightly bigger than that one and make a reliable machine out of them. It looks like you're using a 12 volt battery and those were 6 volts back then and if it wasn't all converted to 12 volt you're going to fry all of the electrical components on that machine. Also a lot of things back in the day were a positive ground meaning that the ground cable hooked up to the positive side of the battery, so basically everything was backwards and if that's the case and you have it hooked up as a modern negative ground then your starter would spin your engine backwards and that would be why it wouldn't fire. Hard to say, you need to get an old timer that's worked on that old stuff to look at it and give you a hand.

    I really like the old AC crawler; I'd truly enjoy having one to restore and use.

    Time the mag so the impulse snaps right at top center or just a bit after.
    A good mag is better than battery and coil ignition.

    You can take tank off and have it boiled out at a radiator shop. They also make a coating you can pour in it to cover the rust.

    i have a 1942 allis model m. that runs. the magneto cap turns backwards. so your firing order is backwards to direction engine rotates.
    firing order is most likely 1243

    Dink is going to need a blade extension to push snow. The slide off from the roof will often be 2 to 3 feet deep just from one snow storm. I had a 10 ft wide x 5 ft x 3 ft bucket on my 55 hp Case crawler. A 14 foot long roof pitch could pile up a lot of snow quickly. I was constantly chasing slide off. One year, the pile I could not clear got 6 feet deep. It filled a 10 ft x 20 ft x 6 foot dog run.
    A great addition to your homestead.

    I think a grand for that dozer is a good gamble. I'm sure you'll get it running. Great vid.

    First thing to do with that mag is throw it in the lake. go and get a distributor out of a WD 45 Allis. It will fit in the dozer. Next use then correct firing order of 1342. The guy that suggested the radiator shop for cooking out the fuel tank spot on. Carb your on the rite track with cleaning. Good luck with it.

    The way these steer is each lever is a hand clutch and the pedals are brakes you have to pull the lever first and then engage the brake to make sharp turns
    Remember handle first then pedal. Not the other way around

  • @INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D
    @INTERNATIONAL_RDF-D Před 4 lety

    Your gunna need a zenith carburetor for it
    You can still get the WICO HX-2500 magneto for it.... champion and autolite still make spark plugs and you can make your own wires. Use solid core copper wire for your plug wires
    And the pulley in front of the magneto is for a generator/alternator
    I think the M used a zenith s1203 carb
    I’m not sure if they were side valve or OHV engines.
    The biggest obstacle is gunna be the steering clutches, final drives and drive sprockets
    There’s an M that I’ve been eye balling here in my hometown it’s just sitting as yard art.....

    It will run not much to it that is why it is so old and still works. Look into getting the magneto changed to a coil

    Thats a nice dozer! I have a seen a few 'Will it start?' Videos on old heavy equipment like that so browse YT a little for info maybe. Also, we would like to see more clips of you getting it running if possible. The Barndomium is showing great progress, keep up the channel!

    You said your tracks are good , but did you check the pins and bushings on the track rail. If you have to replace them or get into the differential gears on an obsolete dozer. Good luck hopefully you'll get many years of work with it. I'm in my 70's with more than 50 years in heavy equipment.

  • @RJ1999x
    @RJ1999x Před 3 lety

    Your history of dink is wrong, the crawler was made to do both drawbar work and dozer, Allis Chalmers had an agreement with Baker, and tractamotive and they made the blades or loaders for them and we're dealer installed. Allis Chalmers ended up buying these companies and the Detroit powered dozers came from the factory equiped
