so i've just recently started learning photoshop and a lot of the tutorials are geared towards already knowing what everything does and I'd just like to say that dude your videos have gone a long way in helping me now know what im actually doing when i select my tools and I love your energy! Thank you so much for being awesome and teaching the way you do! 🥰😁
Another great tutorial. Short and too the point without waffling on just to make the video longer. 10 minutes works well with my lifestyle as I like to view your channel in the short breaks i get while at work.
Excellent, I will use this tutorial as reference for sure. No favorite blending mode. Play with them all without much thought given. Now I will know what their purpose is.Thank You!
Wow! So, I've used almost all of these blending techniques but had no idea "what they were doing officially" - lol - I think right now my current fav has been "Difference" - as I design clothes for an on-line game and some patterns are just kinda dull, and then I will put a Difference layer on them and it's like "oooohhhhh that's dashingly different!!" Thanks for the great tut's - I'm still rather new here. I've been working with PS (this time) about 4 years - and I've already learned sooooooo much! thanks for the great tuts!!!
My favorite blending mode when using High Pass is Vivid Light. Whenever Overlay is an option, try the other options, such as Soft Light and Hard Light. Typically, I get the best result with Vivid Light, which adds a pleasing increase in contrast.
Although I've reviewed Blending Mode information before, your practical presentation style always makes the information easier to understand and remember - thanks!
I love blending modes. I regularly use screen mode and colour dodge for composites and luminosity mode where I am applying curves adjustments where I don't want the colour to be affected. I often use Overlay and Soft light too. Blend modes are an absolute must learn aspect of Photoshop. 😉
OK - these are great.... It never occurred to me to use that 'difference' mode to align things. I love it! And I'm soooo using that color mode. And overlay for dodging and burning.. Those are great! I've used multiply and screen a lot, but still learned a couple new tricks. Great stuff as always, Colin! 👍😁
Some time ago I asked you about wrapping text round a graphic and you said it could not be done. Now with blending modes I can do some thing similar, Great! I had not really used blending modes so another really useful tutorial, thank you.
@@photoshopcafe I wanted to wrap text round a graphic as I used to do in Pagemaker and you said, in as many words, that it could not be done in Photoshop.
Mr, Colin Smith, but I'm very impressed with your video. I really like your videos. I just watched the video on your channel today. Nice tutorial. My favorite blending modes are overly and multiply because these help me a lot in hiding unnecessary things.
When I is used curves, I changed the blend mode to luminosity. This way the color is not affected. When I used textures, I used Hard Mix and the fill slider to change the effect.
This was great! A couple of these I was made aware of a long time ago, but they were never explained in detail like you explained them! The remaining three were I knew nothing of, but know I do! It's hard to choose, but if I must, the color blending mode would be my fav! Thanks much Colin!
I didn't know the COLORblending mode.... Could become very useful!!!!!! Many thanks!!!! BTW I use screen mode a lot but I use it by duplicating a too dark image then applying screen to the top duplicate. Adjusting the percentage of the upper layer often helps get that too dark layer much closer to a background layer I want to apply it to. Then a little touch up work for perfect matching.
Another use for Overlay mode is when you run a High Pass filter on a layer copy. Sharpens without adding the crispies. If grain shows up, a Remove Noise filter deals with it nicely. Add a Layer Mask and you can paint out the areas you don't want affected.
Being able to mix is the most important thing, in everything principle. I work with interior pictures daily and use very often the blending-mode "Difference" when I put parts of different pictures (or exposures) together; to be able to align correctly. I have often wondered why I have not seen any of this among the CZcams channels before. Now I have seen it in photoshopCAFE :-)
Great! Thanks for this video. I have a Q: How can I blend an image over a face but let it look natural keeping the shades, lines, contour, etc as if it was painted directly over the face? Do you have a tutorial about that?
Hello Colin, in this video clip I like to use the 5th blend mode but I find the color I choose paints everywhere. I am a beginner at Photoshop not sure how I can achieve the result by following this tutorial. Can you please tell me how. Thanks
I love you teaching on blending modes. Hope i get a.job amd earn. YOU ARE A TRUE INSPIRATIONAL AND MOTIVATIONAL TEACHER.MAY JESUS AND MOTHER MARY BLESS YOU ALWAYS IN ABUNDANCE
We are creatures and God is the creator. We always should seek the blessing of God (the creator) and not for his creations. May God guide all of us to the righteous path!
Dear Colin Smith

Nothing left but to thank you .
I never knew anything about blending layers until I came upon this video. Thanks! You've opened up another whole dimension of Photoshop to explore!

Im glad it's useful. Of course, the important thing is, if the blend mode looks good to you, it is good :)
My favorite blending mode when using High Pass is Vivid Light. Whenever Overlay is an option, try the other options, such as Soft Light and Hard Light. Typically, I get the best result with Vivid Light, which adds a pleasing increase in contrast.
thanks Collin

Are you sure it was me? "Can't be done" Isn't something I usually say.
@@photoshopcafe I wanted to wrap text round a graphic as I used to do in Pagemaker and you said, in as many words, that it could not be done in Photoshop.
Very clear explanation! This is a very valuable tutorial.
Awesome video ,, definitely the last one will be my favorite

Hi!

Absolutely stunning. Thank you.

Sir can we save blending options apply on multiple layers as an individual style?
MULTIFY IS MY FAVORATE
we can also change any color of butterfly by using normal mode also. what is the purpose of selecting "color blending mode" here?
I use Luminosity quite a bit.
Nice tutorial
The link to the Blending modes ebook doesn't work. Could you update it, please? Love the Colour BM!
Great! Thanks for this video. I have a Q: How can I blend an image over a face but let it look natural keeping the shades, lines, contour, etc as if it was painted directly over the face? Do you have a tutorial about that?
Try different blending modes
Hello Colin, in this video clip I like to use the 5th blend mode but I find the color I choose paints everywhere. I am a beginner at Photoshop not sure how I can achieve the result by following this tutorial. Can you please tell me how. Thanks
I use luminosity blending mode quite a lot.
you grate video, Requesting you to please do one video for us 'smudge tool painting '
thanks for a wondeful trick...
Screen and overlay I always use.
To cycle through, I always just clicked the layer, then the blending modes and then used the scroll wheel. :D
... yes it applies to most controls in photoshop, very good!
I'm the first for a change! Thank you for your video, I love learning about Photoshop!
My favorite is Overlay and... Color.
Thank you for this can just ask does colour not effect black or white?
Correct. and Luminosity doesn't affect color
Kind of a tie between overlay (for dodge/burn) and screen for compositing JPGs where transparent background is actually white
Luminosity
My favorite is Overlay; I do lots of dodging & burning.
How about WOW, and Thanks!
That looks like Zack Wyld's guitar from the early 2000's

E-book not available for download?
It should work. Please contact us at photoshopcafe.com Click on support
May I ask why my colour blending mode couldn't work well, the colour applied is so light and cannot cover my original photo, anyone could help me?
In CS6 you just use the up and down arrows to cycle thru. You don't need SHIFT.
If you select the blending mode first. If you use Shift, you don't have to click on the blending modes.
the color isn't working for me :(
