Another ship with a bugged main feature? Yay!
The bombing interface gotta be one of the worst of any game and is in dire need of a rework
tbh there's only two ships that use it so realistically it probably won't be fixed until more dire issues are addressed.
We'll probably get one (or at least it may become an actual possiblity) when bombing missions get added in any capacity
It is a placeholder, eventually a second person will be doing the targeting from the pilot.
What delusional coping mechanisms are going on here. It's 2023, and almost any "competent" game engine comes with a bomb targeting mechanism right in the box. It's nothing like you have to invent or work on. If it's not such a glorified "college-student-project" game engine from 10 years ago, there's no need to use the so-called placeholder in the first place.
Be consistent; recognizing the engine and system of this game is outdated garbage or believing it's the bleeding edge Jesus techs that opens up a new frontier of the gaming industry. If you wanna say this game engine needs a placeholder for such a basic thing like bombsight and still can't handle inventories properly after 10 years of development, it's time to understand this engine is nothing but a trash and such technobabbles like server meshing is long gone.

for people saying the targeting hud is bugged, it is not. previously the hud disappeared when entering missile mode and setting desired impact point.
you should be flying at scm speed or slower when trying to set the desired impact point and releasing the bomb. once you set the impact point, the cross in the hud indicates your distance from the impact point and if you are lined up. there is dot that will move up the hud as you approach. when it is in the center, if you fire the missile, it will land inside the impact point.
The blue circle wont Show up until you are 500 Meters away atm, it flickers and the Indicator after Designating disappears as soon as i Move the ship a Tiny bit. It is 100% bugged and also there are many reports in the Forums with people having the same problems
The bombing interface is very buggy on the A1. Sometimes you cannot lock target while on approach at a safe range. The idea of loitering over target zone within 2.5k to get a target reticle and then trying to performa drop at speed often results in under or over shoot in my experience. Additionally, try to factor in leading moving targets and not just stationary facilites or emplacements.
the whole ship is a bug fest.
Bombing HUD not working as intended.
Shilds overheat out of nothing and do not recharge on the right side and backwards.
The ramp is bugged and some times causes dmg on the ship when moving. Also the ramg can cause dmg to the player character.
The weapons do not charge or recharge.
Even the bombs intselfes are bugged.
They did no PTU testing with the Spirit A1.

The 3-4 second delay between drops kinda needs to be lowered

@@LordBeef it causes the bomber to have really a long spread in a bombing run. And makes bombing feel awkward a 2 second delay would feel better tbh.
with how the bomber is desinged / what was in the trailer it's supposed to have some carpet bombing capabilities. Since they're all separate launch tubes n all.@@LordBeef
We all know they had to put the stupid delay between bombs because they weren't able to handle the colliders and physics of carpet bombing lol

You didn't check how high the ground is. So i think its better to minus the terrain level from altitude to measure the actual range

yeah the target mode or whatever its called is bugged according to ppl I talked to. Last night I was able to only target inside an armistice zone lol but nowhere outside...very weird XD
I can target at other poi's like jumptown and wreck sites
last night i dropped 6 of em on a criminal bunker at about 2700m they worked, turrets dead. but yeah the targeting is bugged. love your content gud testing!

@@gnbilios indeed they should, or give them a time fuse so ppl wont be dropping them from orbit suddenly ppl on the ground get an explosion
Though seems bomb performance is super dependent on server status bad server your bomb don't go off even if they hit the groind

The bombing interface needs to be placed on a MFD with visuals of the ground below coupled with a sonar or radar that displays the 3D topography of the terrain and enemies. Having to literally point the nose of the ship to the ground to acquire a visual is not only comical but straightout slow, dangerous and clunky.

blast radius is 150m. so as long as youre 151+ meters from impact youre good. just dont forget that the elevation readout isnt how far from that spot on the ground as terrain changes

Cig needs to rework the bombs. We have ships that can travel faster than light but apparently a bomb computer isn’t common technology for a multimillion dollar bombing ship. You should be able to mark any spot on the planet in a separate ui and just have to drop it within range of the area and let the bomb do the rest. I get that bombing isn’t really a completed loop, but cig needs to complete it and make sure we don’t have this ww2 bs, especially when you’re in a ship as fragile as the A1 spirit.

im sure that the altitude limit per bomb changes per planet! as there are different heights in atmosphere! :o
And yet I hear it won't kill a player unless they are less than 100m from the impact??
100m is pretty reasonable to survive that kind of explosion

The altimeter is set to a fictional barometric alt not radar alt if you see on that bomb drop the distance to impact was 0.1km or 100m putting the ship in the blast range.
320m above sea level, 100m from the terrain.

who bombs from a stationary position? should have tested it while moving you could be a lot lower cause you are out of the way by the time the bomb lands
yeah its also kind of weird doing a first run to lock the target just to reverse back and repeat the run to drop the bombs, its as if you're telegraphing your course of attack
Are bombsights the Greek fire of 2953? How is this bomber not equiped w a bomb sight?

And make it controlable by the copilot, giving ot some multicrew capabilities other then the ones literally every other ship has, AKA turret and Soon™️ engeneering.
Honestly a missed oportunity
This was honestly a terrible guide for HOW to drop the bombs, targeting specifically. You're not using the UI right. The white (or blue as you're saying) circle, is the target area, this becomes available in Missile Mode when you get low enough to the ground to be able to target an area of impact. You lock the location of the white circle by holding T. The red circle is showing you at your current drop location - thats where the bomb would hit. It's always red because it will always be outside the white circle, until the white circle turns green from target locking the blast area. When you pass over, the red circle turns to green, to signify that bomb impact location will be atleast INSIDE the green targeted area.
Let it be known at this point, that the UI is expecting you to do a pass of the target location to lock the target, and then a second pass in which you will line up the missile UI - as the system detects you are in drop range at the speed you are travelling at, it'll turn green. You'll have a dual axis within the circle, highlighted by dots - thats the range of intended impact area. So if you have the X axis pip at the far right of the line, and the Y axis pip at the bottom... the bomb will impact somewhere inside the closest right side quarter of the target location.
So to correct this, you would need to move left a little bit, to get the X axis pip to center, and release the bomb a little later (or closer, as it were) in order to impact the center of the target blast area.
The targeting UI is not buggy, you're just not using it correctly. It's actually very simple and intuitive.
The ui is really buggy hate to tell ya unless the game is expecting me to fly with my ass scraping the ground for the ui to show its buggy.
That seems like its a bigger blast than the A2 bombs.
So now a2 will be Lil bomber and how small the a1 is. But A2 is still the beast.
