Cybersecurity is Critical for Broadband Providers

Broadband operators must implement a cybersecurity plan and robust cyberthreat mitigation efforts not only for the protection of their business and subscribers, but to comply with the #NIST #Cybersecurity Framework if they plan on applying for grants from new federal programs that are funding broadband deployment, such as the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program, USDA ReConnect, and Enhanced E-ACAM. In addition, many insurance companies are now also requiring that a cybersecurity plan be in place for them to provide insurance to that business. Finally, broadband operators are now considered to be critical infrastructure providers, so in the future cybersecurity may be a federal requirement for broadband operators regardless of whether federal funding is involved.
