Not sure you should make this comparison if what you want is to defend the study of Dante, as, frankly (as anyone intelligent will tell you), Shakespeare is nothing to write home about (and no, he did not invent this expression nor any other) and his very relative importance has been blown out of all proportion by those who don't have a clue about literature or language.

I've always thought Shakespeare was overrated. Especially in this day and age, no one communicates in old English anymore. Besides, historical accounts or historical literature surely is more important that fictional.

As Italian I feel ashamed about what has occurred in my country - it means cultural and social submission to a theocratic, not liberal, not inclusive, foreign ideology (islam) - it supports discrimination and it goes against integration. I am very worried: what will happen when those people will be more and more? A new censorship will be restored? Like in Charlie Hebdo’s case? Or like in Iran?

A very unwise exemption. To paraphrase an old saying: "give a Muslim an inch and he'll take a mile"! I've lived in Italy and didn't find any rules or customs particularly onerous. In fact, Italians often made an extra effort to help me. If these people don't like the way things are done in Italy the should bugger off to a country that suits them better.
For someone who can read Dante in the vernacular his poetry represents one of the greatest achievements of that art form. Only a complete savage and barbarian would want to avoid such an experience.

As a former Italian I can tell you that even when I went to school many years ago we did learn much. Now they learn almost nothing (for instance, almost all Italian can speak only Italian, so the are cut out from the world). Take away some basic litrature and they are left with nothing. Please, change the word Childrne in the Title - with ""children"

Back in 1991 Charles said that when he became king he wanted to be defender of the FAITHS (plural) rather than FAITH(singular) as it's been for centuries.
