    This is a great video! I used old medicine/pill bottles instead and drilled holes in them and they work great! With the number of snails I have in my tank, I may have to jump up to he size of the container in the video though! Thanks for passing this along!

    why do the snails not crawl back out of the holes?

    • @krisstinaaasays
      @krisstinaaasays Před rokem +6

      It’s not that they don’t crawl out but that you would check the trap and remove the tub with all the snails in there before they have a chance to crawl out.

    • @gazza2933
      @gazza2933 Před rokem +1

      I think it's because the diameter of the hole going into the trap, is wider than the hole coming out of it.
      Plus they might be too interested in the bait 🤔

    I added about 6 red ramshorn snails as i liked the colour while cycling my 55g, I also have 3 bumblebee Nerite snails, i know snails help with parts of the cleaning, but them 6 snails are now about 600,even though i have already gave my LFS a whole bunch for his Puffa, if i make this trap, are my 3 nerites likely to go in there too? they have just started to grow their spikes and i dont want them to get damaged? @Everyday Aquarist

    I had an infestation in my small 29 gallon tank. Bought 2 "feeder" fish from the pet store for .35 cents apiece. One was a comet and the other some type of bronze color gold fish. 3 days later... not a single snail in the tank. Once spring arrives the 2 feeder fish will be moved outside to my koi pond.

    I wanted to thank you for this video from someone who just doesn't want to hurt the snails. I needed to clean out this aquarium that I've been cultivating duckweed in, now I'm trying to get all of the snails and don't want any of them to die. I really appreciate this video as someone who adores their snails. ❤

  • @ab9733

    Ugh. Thank you. I have noticed a booming population of snails. I got a rash from the parasites they carry. I've never had to use gloves in my inexperienced years of fish keeping because I've never encountered an issue with snails. I got a ton of plants from the fish store this time around when I always used to get them at petco where it states "snail free" on the packaging. This is what I get for not rinsing the plants before putting them in my tanks. Dumb lesson learned! -facepalm-

    Good one....
    Or you can get a small amazonian or figure 8 puffer... Soon you will have to get another tank just to breed snails for them to eat.

  • @fritzhoffmann9746
    @fritzhoffmann9746 Před rokem

    I don't think it'll work well or at all. It's difficult for the snail to climb past the rim to reach the top. I did the opposite with the lid down. Many small ones got caught in the "gully" around the rim. I also made a half inch by 3 inch hole on the side. Then cut 3 plastic forks & glued them on. It worked but not great. I think yoyo loach or assassins are the way to go.

    aka.... how to drown snails

    • @reaganwatkins881
      @reaganwatkins881 Před 4 lety +1

      Aquatic snails either have gills or keep an air bubble in their shell which doesn't run out quickly. Besides, the entire point is to purge them anyway. They're an infestation. What exactly do you think he's gonna do with them? It's a felony to release aquarium animals into the wild.
