"I would like to dedicate the success of this concert to my Friend S.F. for his music and friendly brotherhood that lives on also after his tragic death in 2003."
Marco Maggiore - Hudba
This is easily one of the most impressive and hauntingly beautiful pieces ever written for the bass. Michael Manring is an absolute genius, every bassist should know his music.
I think MM's sensitivity and artistry is one of the rarely few that can make me move to tears, in a world filled with so much of itself and yet so empty, I so much appreciate to see a true soul
I feel exactly the same way. Perfect description.
I could listen to Michael tune his Hyperbass all day long!
Still amazing after all these years....got to sit 10 feet away and watch MM play in a small club.A very kind and gracious man.
Every time a hear one of Manring's pieces its like a deep emotion comes out from the inner most secret part of my mind. :)
When your bass is like a pedal steel guitar.
So beautiful.
Michael, an incredible person, who's music reflects his soul.
Easily the nicest musician I have ever met.
This piece literally brings tears to my eyes. Manring is an absolute master.
I've been listening too Michael Manning for years. I wish I had 1% of his talent and humility. This is beyond incredible.
Not only is the song emotional, but watching it come through him just makes salty discharge come from my eye sockets. PERFECTION!
*absolutely speechless*...gives me goosebumps everytime :)
This made me cry
If you are ever sad, do not put this song on. I know what I am talkin about. One of my all time faves
I've seen a few people have replied to this, but none really answered your question - the bass starts out in Bb1-F2-Bb2-F3 - it's a piccolo tuned bass. However, between the Hipshot extenders and the bridge being able to also shift the pitch, I believe he changes tunings about 64 times in the song. However, if you have a fretted bass tuned Ab1-Eb2-Ab2-Eb3, then you might be able to play it, with a little creativity.
Just the hyperbass tuning phase is already mind blowing ! For what follows it... well there are no words
I never tire listening to this.
This is talent.
the definition of a virtuoso
Very therapeutic
What a Legend...
Great, great, great and original bassman, one of my favourites!
Absolutely beautiful.
I fxcking love this song. Amazing performance Michael.
He is a God...
So beautiful and moving!
This may be the best version of this song I've heard. Definitely the best live recording quality. (I'm with Ivan, just to 2:43. ; ) )
What an amazing mind!
beautiful beautiful song, love his bass!!!

Out of this world

Amazing Bassist! Saw him at the elbow room in Chicago a while ago

I love his dynamics! Great playing!!!
Just beautiful!
This is absolutely craaaaaaaaaaazy. Damn.
B-E-A-UTIFUL.
preciosa canción es de la misma escuela de jaco ..música q transmite
o melhor pra mim é ele...
It has 4 special hipshot bass extenders and a specially designed bridge that can detune 2, 3, or 4 strings at a time, and he uses them in combination to change tunings for all different songs and throughout any given song he plays. And like J Rolla said, he uses at least 40 or so. You'd have to spend 10 Gs on one of these things :/
Chills everytime. Thank you for the upload!
how does he do this while he keeps changing the tuning!? What an amazing musician..he's in a league of his own!
He uses mechanical drop tuning devices na dI believe also has a drop tune electronic foot pedal to boot.
He plays an instrument called the Hyperbass, made by Zon Guitars to his specifications.
Drop tuners on the headstock and specially designed drop tuning bridge that gives him full access and capabilities to perform these pieces.
great!
^_^
Yup. I have one. And it totally fucks with my head, but it sounds fantastic.
you are damn right
WORLDS BEST BASSIST
anthrax411 One of them. In my top 5 for sure. A few of my favourites are Michael Manring, Abraham Laboriel, Grant Stinnett, Marcus Miller, just to name a few.
Marco! Can you reupload this, with a better audio/video resolution? Is it possible? Thanks for sharing this moment of Mr. Manring's grace, artistry and sensibility. We need more of that.
the máster bass ,
cool
Awesome
Grandma Mary
he's playing a game I am completely unfamiliar with 0_o
Some new meaning now
Hearing the notes, when my guess he starts to play an open string, standard E with 16 droping possibilities. :-) One note tuning key drop, one note bridge drop, on all four strings.
He uses roughly 40 different tunings. Good luck.
does anyone know what this bass is tuned/detuned to?
He aqui a un verdadero discipulo de Jaco Pastorius!!
Those are just muted plucks.
skip to 2:43. jeezz
