- I chose to make the Balkan Puzzle block from 1000 Great Quilt Blocks by Maggie McCormick Gordon. I had a blast with the colors, and I hope you enjoy!

When I am quilting it removes all problems in my life for a short time
To avoid HSTs for the yellow sections, cut yellow rectangles the same size as the flying geese. Then use the stitch and flip method with the bee fabric on opposite corners to get the right shape.
I’m totally with you sewing up in blocks rather than rows; so much easier to match the points. Love the secondary pinwheel pattern.

This turned out so good! I really love seeing all the blocks together and how well the patterns play out. Might have to try making this for my Balkan lol
So many quilters are changing their method of pressing their blocks by pressing seams open. It might work better with this block...but watch out for the quilt police. 😅 im seriously thinking about pressing all my seams open. I really like this pattern. Its kind of an optical illusion with pinwheels appearing in blue. ❤
With all the hate and fighting going on right now I to have gone quilting full speed. Have made alot of quilt tops but with the price of fabric the backs will have to wait. Quilting quiets the mind.
When I stared quilting I did the same as you and made the tops and waited till I could afford backing. Now go thrifting and buy good quality flat sheets for backing. Works great.
Kudos for doing test blocks and trying to simplify the block. Less seams is nice, but following the pattern is less stressful. Love your videos!

I got mine from a local quilt shop called mills end. They don’t have a website though. You may be able to google the name of the fabric and find it for sale online

I feel like. I’ve really only been regularly quilting for a year, and mainly been using this book. But mostly it doesn’t have step by step instructions just as a heads up.
