    Even in America, 20% of small businesses fail in their first year, 30% of small business fail in their second year, and 50% of small businesses fail after five years in business. And 70% of small business owners fail in the 10th year. So, to survive in any country requires hardwork, planning. As later realize, businesses that are created to solve a problem will more chance of survival. I think the major issue she had was not doing enough research to understand the market.

    I'm a small business owner , still struggling in 3rd year of operations. I can appreciate the lady coming on the platform to share her story about the pitfalls off her starting up. Anyone who has a successful business has probably had a few attempts and failures prior to achieving success. If anyone in the comments criticizes, but hasn't owned/operated a successful business , your comments are out of context. When people share this type of information, the some will take notes , avoid the mistakes, and make the necessary adjustments. Others may critique out of context . Thanks for the interview, good learning experience.

    This is quite an interesting interview. It fleshed out some of the real difficulties Nigerians face when coming from abroad to establish businesses in Nigeria. Your experience back home to Nigeria, was very frustrating, sad, and horrible. You are a true survivor, and it takes courage, for you to share your devastating experiences. There is always a silver lining in any negative or bad situation. And that positive silver lining, is the lessons learned, so that this horrible situation would not be repeated, by you or any other Nigerian, who plans to return home, to visit or to start a business. Thank you for sharing your story. Hopefully, thousands more Nigerians will visit this channel and see your story. If you don't mind, give the visitors of this channel a current update of how you are doing currently. Are you o.k? Based on your testimony, you are an intelligent, ambitious, determined, hopeful woman, with a tough fighting spirit. Please don't allow this horrible experience to shutdown your lifelong ambition, success, and progress. Your destination is the mountaintop. Never ever quit. You can also turn this lemon into a lemonade, by writing and publishing an eBook advising Nigerians about what the must do, to survive returning to Nigeria. Think about it. This is a suggestion. Best wishes and more success. Thumbs up to you for your courage, from Tampa, Florida, USA. And thank you, to the host, for a very educational and helpful interview.

Some of the reasons they sate for closing in Nigeria is problems with landing goods at the port and having to pay bribes as well as that distribution is nearly impossible. As well as most of Nigerians can’t afford Shoprite . Nigerian is more an informal market so they buy from street vendors mostly . There is also a reason MacDonalds has never entered into Nigeria . The corruption is hurting the country so much . I want to move there also but it sounds very scary at times.

    what year was this ? sounds like a long time ago. she said the exchange rate back then was 138 naira to a dollar. sounds like jonathans era when things were out of control. buhari is bringing civility to the country now. its not perfect but what she is describing sounds like jonathan era.

      Hmm, I recorded this in 2017, so I think she went back in 2012- 2013? She didn't say the year in the podcast? I have a bad memory lol.
      What @ civility to the country, under Buhari, Nigeria has slipped down below India to the country with the most impoverished people in the entire world. There is a massive exodus of educated middle class Nigerians leaving to Germany, Canada, etc. People are starving, education system is worst than it was when my parents were growing up, and people really think a civil war is going to break out. Buhari is literally the worst president Nigeria has ever had.

      @@IveomaMedia what I meant was there is no blatant disregard for the law under buhari as you saw under jonathan. they are cleaning up all that mess. as for the massive exodus of educated middle class leaving to germany and canada those are the dummies who crammed to pass exams but dont have any applicable skills are the ones running because they need to be employed by other people. the brilliant ones who can apply what they were taught are in nigeria making hundreds of millions of naira building things. i was looking on jumia website to buy a solar and battery pack inverter because I myself am moving to nigeria next month and i was shocked to find out that the solar inverter battery packs were created by engineers who just graduated from university in nigeria. you have to understand that in any country there will always be stupid people running away looking for a quick fast buck abroad. its being like that since the beginning of time. has nothing to do with the state of any country. people just cant apply their brains where they are so they go look for somewhere they perceive that money is picked on the streets. soon enough after 5 years they start missing home and get suicidal and depressed. go on youtube its millions of africans crying about missing home and being lonely abroad LMAOO

      When was the last time you have been in Nigeria and where do you go in the country? Do you just stay in Lagos?
      Everything she described is happening to people right now lol I know people in Aba that this just happened to in 2019. The gov seized their land although they bought it legally, the family that sold it to them knew that the gov was going to seize the land so they sold it first.
      The massive exodus is everyone who believed in Nigeria, stayed when they didn’t have to and under Buhari see the country rolling backwards so are leaving. It’s pretty massive number so no it can’t be brushed aside.

      And I am moving to Nigeria myself and I just want to people to understand the realities. Nigeria has a lot of opportunities but barely any consumer protection laws lol.
      Her situation happens to people all the time who move, didn’t do research on the market (ie don’t know what will sell and to who), rush into business, etc. This is a real story that has a lot of practical lessons.

You can put 3 people's life savings together, still would you be successful??? No, because it's the knowledge of the business not money. Take calculated risks. There's plenty of businesses you can do.Thanks

    You guys keep saying there's alot of money in Nigeria, where is this money? There isn't alot of money in Nigeria, let's get that right. Money is scarse here and in the hands of a very select few. Nigerians will spend money only when they have to, on their needs and basic expenses, and that's where the little money is.

    • @IveomaMedia
      @IveomaMedia  Před 4 lety +1

      No that’s not true. Nigeria literally has the biggest economy in Africa... LOL I am living in Ibeju-Lekki and I am not seeing what you are saying at all even during this corona time when I thought Everyone would stop spending money on everything. It's Iveoma on paper yes, but when one takes into consideration our massive population, our economy cannot keep up with it. Also, our government is falling increasely into debt and continues to borrow more. Maybe I should rephrase. There is money in Nigeria, it just isn't enough or as much as everyone claims there is

    • @IveomaMedia
      @IveomaMedia  Před 4 lety

      There is a ton of money here lol I am seeing the opportunities in color ooo. Plus the people I interact with, I think you need to change your circle (the people you interact with) and mindset. You will start seeing the money everywhere too.
      The gov is mismanaged and focused on oil, if they didn’t do that they would not be in debt. They literally didn’t save Any money during the good times. Ridiculous Not a good example.
      There is so much business opportunity now!! Especially bc of covid. The gov ran out of oil now they are open to funding so many projects. Just shift your thinking a bit. There is a reason people talk about how much money is here, so instead of disagreeing with this popular opinion try to find the money near you.
