I'd wish I had neighbors like you.
I'd rather hear turbine whine than bumping car stereos.
lol
me too lol
Every video I watch I say to myself - Man, I wish he was my neighbor!
I live in extremely rural Tn. All we hear out here is gunshots in the distance on occasion. I love it. The sound of freedom.
@@joshuagibson2520 South Georgia = Same, and I love it as well. I travel a lot with my job, often to major cities, and there's probably no one that could offer me enough money to move to any city (inside the city limits or "town"), even a medium or small one. My ole lady knows my requirements before she shows me any other home she'd like to look at; if I can't piss in my front yard without somebody seeing and/or freaking out, and most importantly, if I cant shoot my guns in my own back yard, then there's absolutely 0 chance I would spend a dime to buy that home. Just the way I am....plus people are nicer in the country, and usually much better looking women, in my opinion
This is what i have been waiting for all week

Unless you're specifically recording ambient sounds, you guys should use the lav mic all the time. Sounds a lot better...
yep no insult but it did sound better
@James Smith Listen from 8:17 to 30 seconds later (8m47s), and judge for yourself. Be honest...
Not to be preaching to the choir really but YES! The production value went up by a lot. With a channel with this amount of technical knowledge it's a shame to lose viewers due to bad audio. The kind of people enjoying this kind of content is either not bothered at all or never coming back due to the way it's presented. I feel I'm a special case that is so interested I can stand quite bad production value but I for sure will recommend channels going for that extra mile to other's.
On topic, I like seeing the progress of this particular project.
@James Smith Nice "honesty", loser. Fuck off.

Used a small turbo because "the smaller the turbocharger, the more difficult it is to get it to operate". This guy doesn't mess around. Great work, and thank you for explaining everything so well. Love your attention to detail, this is an awesome project. Would be cool to see how much energy you can extract from both the pressure + heat of the exhaust, maybe drive a steam generator for cabin heat or wing de-icing in whatever vehicle your jet engine goes into!
lapel mic sounded best. you should use that exclusively moving forward.
You are an extraordinary man. So meticulous, so precise, clearly enjoying these technical builds and sharing information. Very, very cool!
You need a compressor bypass to unload the turbine (you'll get higher rpm's and better pressure ratios, by keeping the compressor out of surge) and a better flame holder to help stabilize combustion (you can hear it chattering, and see the boost pressure bouncing all over)
Your idea for thrust measurement is questionable, at best. The exhaust jet will entrain a not insignificant amount of air into the stream before making the bend, and the wall friction of the flow will come into play, so you will not be getting accurate measurement of thrust available. It will, however, be repeatable, so if you're only looking for verification of tuning changes, then it'll work fine.
I think that most of his combustion problems arrive from compressor surge
I had similar problems and I added a compressor outlet bleed valve so it doesn't surge on low rpm
He said he wants to use this to turn a turbine ... that tells me that its better to include the "bypass" air effect into the measurement.
@@MrRolnicek he could make respool system but cutting into turbine housing is no easy task
@@MrRolnicek If you're driving a power turbine, then you will need even MORE compressor bypass, to further unload the turbine. The extra backpressure of the power turbine is robbing the gas generator turbine of useful pressure difference, and that means there's less power to drive the compressor, which is already overloading the gas generator turbine.
Could be that tapering outlet is too long or too small in diameter causing the surge.
I've been waiting on this since the last week where I binge watched your channel. Very satisfying to see the turbo finally run! The idea to use a fuel pump for the oil is actually genius.
The neighbors must love you guys. Keep up the great content!
*Tech Ingredients* YOU are a modern day and interesting "Mr Wizard"
Looking forward to your video on Pulsed Detonation Engines (PDE) as I still have yet to see a homebuilt version that generates sustained thrust or runs at over 10hz continuously.
I've been working on a PDE for 6 years. Hope I get to prototype soon. Need $$
I wonder if a pulsejet might be the way to win those car audio volume competitions.

Great job guys! This is awesome! And so small!!! Really really really looking forward to your, as always, excellent optimisations!
It's surging horribly
You need to add a compresson bleed valve on the compressor outlet to reduce surge on low compressor rpm
You didn’t say please so don’t expect him to listen to you
@@mrd9534 Ur mom gay lol
Do you think it was surging because it was not up to running temperature? It didn't run very long for the temperature to stabilize.
could you explain that a bit more? you sound very experienced with that kind of problem. all I could think was "it sometimes sounds a bit unstable"
@@rickdees251 does surging is related to temperature? Until what I'd understood, comp. surge occurs when the exhaust air couldn't expand correctly (such as a sudden blockage or the exhaust nozzle too small). Clarify me please.
Definitely the right weather for max-power pulls!
Beautiful workmanship and presentation. Cheers, Mark * * *

Old school engineer/hacker confirmed. Good stuff. :)
Love your work!! That part about waking up the wife was priceless.
Amazing Video as always. Now i have to build one too.

This is seriously so awesome, thank you for taking the time to build it and record it all to share!
You're welcome!
Thank you for explaining the point behind this, I was scratching my head for a while!
those thumbnails get me everytime. :D great work!
Neat-o ! Was the oil temp gauge working or it just didn't run long enough to even be within its range ? Can't wait for future vids this is cool af.
Great job, there, im happy you are going for generator with jet, looking forward for performance results, especially compared to previous drone generator build.
Very good demonstration. Thank you

Ah... that's a good one 👍😂
I wish you were my shop teacher back in high school!
I loved the thinly veiled sarcasm towards neighbours, but especially the misses. There was even a wry smile when you said about the misses. Very impressed with the turbojet too.
Well done guys! Just fantastic stuff as usual!
Really like your channel! This is how science classes at school should be !
Thanks!
I'm definitely looking forward to any kind of attempt at improving fuel efficiency!
Ha ha that was a joke right?
Youre channel is so under appreciated. You've got great content
Thank you!
Nice to see someone in my age group having fun!
Keep on having fun.
Holy compressor surge Batman!!!
My favorite channel on youtube! Wish I could have watched this quality of Edutainment on PBS as a kid! @Techingredients Which Defense contractor did you work for in one of your past lives?
Maybe he can do a show.
It seems like he's becoming more confident, which is great! Good on you, mate!
One of the best channels on youtube. I'm really enjoying all of the videos you guys are making. Thank you. The video production is good and the subject matter is interesting.
Thanks!
Have you thought about increasing thrust or efficiency using a liquid hydrogen precooler or MW 50 injection? Would be an interesting idea for a later video :)

Absolutely awesome video. A lot of useful information. Thanks a lot sharing this.
That's a awesome! Congrats, Really like your channel!
I think those large pops while the engine was running were the engine surging, looks like you have the exhaust nozzle too choked.
Looking at the glowing part of the turbine side of the snail I'd say you have either incomplete combustion or the secondary holes of the combustion chamber either need opening up or create a few more of them.
great work.

do some searching, read the book, listen to the radio series. it was brilliant!
I too am confused as to why he thought restricting the turbine outlet nozzle greatly would be a good idea to do before the test run. Really bad for gas flow through the turbine IMO, especially with such a small setup that has little room to accommodate the excess air such the compressor is generating.
I subscribed just for the annoying neighbours and waking wives part. Oh and the awesome tech and explaining.
Outstanding! I look forward to seeing how you attached the hardware that converts the high pressure exhaust into rotational energy.

Don't give up on that Camry. It's still good!
It is planned that they will keep testing until the thrust melts the ice, and vòila that is a reason for doing things like that midnight.

They love it to bits.
You are tackling all very interesting projects. Hybrid drone, hybrid gas turbine and now the turbo charger jet engine. But whatever hapened to the earlier two projects? Have you concluded them?
Practically none of our projects are really concluded. We are building a very unusual dye laser. It's just that each project leads to several others. It's fractal or a little ADHD.
We tried to do turbo charger jet engine as a term project in my gas turbine course, but could not make it to run. In my final year I proposed hybrid jet engine using an rc nitro engine for compressor but my proposal was rejected because of lack of enough calculation and research involved. I still think it would have made a great capstone project.
Wow what a fantastic video. Lots of great content to be found on this channel. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
This is great! I can't wait to see what's next!
I would like to see you build a turbo shaft engine.
He's has a life doing what pleases him, which is this project right now or perhaps you can find someone else on YT who has. Cheers
@@rickdees251 If you want to go back and find every single comment I have left, you'll see that I support everything, 'he,' has done. However, you seem to be very simple minded because you haven't realized that, 'he,' is not the only person creating videos. He has his son, the original creator of, 'Tech Ingredients,' in videos. His son started the name, selling computer components online and the name stuck to create this CZcams channel. Saying I would like to see him make a turbo shaft engine also means you did not watch the entire video because towards the end of the video, he spoke about using the turbine to drive a generator, which would be a turbo shaft engine. Instead of trying to act like an asshole, maybe you should watch all of the videos and realize just what this creator has planned.

Bill Nye the so called, " Science Guy." isn't qualified to be this guy's camera man.
Don't ask me how it works, I was in the Aerospace industry for over 20 yrs. I just build the stuff.
Well I do have a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was a CNC Machine Shop Manager for several years. I like working in the Machine Shop better than the Engineering Department, but the two work hand in hand.
This channel brings back memories of all the prototyping I use to do. I hope it inspires younger kids to get into working with their hands and minds.
I need to do a retraction here. Bill Nye was a Mechanical Engineer who worked for Boeing and invented a hydraulic resonance suppressor tube used on 747. He worked there from 77-86 then got into comedy , TV and wrote a couple Best Selling books.
So he is a very smart guy who dumb's himself down and acting geeky is his shtick .
@@gooblio His radicalized left rhetoric has ruined him for me. I still respect his contributions to science, and getting kids into science. But his new show just seems like indoctrination.

GUYS........ Please do not use thinner oil than recommended by turbo manufacture..... there are plenty of oil pumps he could of used, but we have used 044 Bosch fuel pumps for oil, and at the spec of oil recommended by turbo manufactures..... The reason you don't see many working compact twin set ups, is the discharge temp of the air from the first stage can be over 200 C, hitting an ali comp wheel, that don't like temps much more than that, the comp wheel fails
