I'm new to this (at age 70 - never too old!). Just started out with a bird bath and putting seed out. Now I have 2 bird baths, 3 feeding stations, and just ordered more🐦 and have had Merlin on my phone for a while🙋😍

Thank you Alan. I really enjoyed your talk on the local birds to your area. I bird watch in South Wales UK so not so many eagles.

Another interesting fact about the ecological significance of birds is exemplified during Mao's "Great Leap Forward" in 1950s China. Sparrows were targeted as part of a nation-wide civic pest control campaign, due to their tendency to feed on rice grains. They were hunted down and killed in the hundreds of thousands, which proved to be a catastrophic mistake, as pest insects grew exponentially due to lack of predation from the birds. Crops were ravaged by the insects, and the resulting famine claimed an estimated 10-50 million human lives.

I don’t know but I think I’d be bored to tears 😭 bird watching plus I’d be a little impatient

A great quote I heard is, “to become patient, you must do things that require patience”.

Eagles aren’t as good as catching fish as Ospreys. I’d heard eagles would steal fish from them. I saw that happen twice watching the Ospreys in the last couple of years.
