- Waxing your painted furniture is easy. Follow Annie Sloan's top tips for applying Chalk Paint® Wax and you'll be able to enjoy a gorgeous finish that will last and last.
Annie Sloan developed her unique and versatile decorative paint, Chalk Paint®, in 1990. She wanted to create one paint that could achieve several different techniques and finishes - from creating a textured chippy look to achieving a smooth modern finish, or even creating a wash. Annie's paint is non toxic, low VOC, and very easy to work with. There's no need to prime or sand before starting - you can just get stuck straight in to the fun bit!

You make it so simple! Other tutorials complicate things unnecessarily! Thank you!! Love Annie Sloan paint.
First time using it and first time using the wax! Wish me luck!
Good Luck Laur!!
Other tutorials, went on and on etc.... I really came very close to scrapping the whole project 😒
Ty again 😊
Super simple. Under 1 min video on waxing? Thank you! 😅❤🙏
Thank you, Annie. I am waxing a piece I just painted in that same lovely blue you sell. Love it!
Ms. Annie I was terrified to wax and had considered buying polyurethane, which I later heard could yellow! Watching your video gave this anti-crafty lady hope. God bless and thank you for your video.
Love Chalk Paint! It's literally the greatest paint in the world!
Love your videos so simple and straight to the point 👍
Che dire di questa cera? E' semplicemente fantastica! Un piccolo miracolo.
For drying the wax brush after cleaning, I made a little hanging gadget. I thought I would share. If I could figure out how to add the photo I took, I would have done that instead. I used a card board toilet paper roll, place over handle just to metal band, it fits snuggly. Then I used a hole punch and punch two holes opposite each other at top of the cardboard roll, leaving an inch space at top. Put pipe cleaner or long twisty tie through the holes and twist ends together....then hang from hook. voila' The brushes will air dry in the proper position without rusting the band. and the card board roll is reusable of disposable.

Oh my Goodness, Thank You so much for the information!
Urgent help. I put to much wax on my wall mural (chalk and acrylic) and there’s a build up of white wax on the black chalk. How do I remove the build up wax without tying the chalk paint mural 😢
Ok my mistake waited too long to wipe off the excessive wax , it was not readily wiping off. Try to wipe with a slightly damp cloth - but did not work well.
What do I do. Tips are so welcome . Am a beginner with chalk paint.
Apply another coat of wax and just quickly wipe of the excessive as soon as possible.
Hello Pearl, not to worry! Simply apply a fresh coat of wax on your piece which will reactivate that first coat and give you the ability to remove the excess. Work in small sections at a time (such as the side of a small chest of drawers) Remove the excess wax with a clean absorbent cloth, changing to a clean cloth frequently as an old one can become clogged with wax and become ineffective. It is best to move the cloth more slowly. Avoid using a more rapid back and forth motion as this can begin to buff or polish the wax before it is dry, resulting in an uneven appearance to the final finish.
@@AnnieSloanHome thank you , and will wax smaller section at a time
I need to apply a second coat of dark wax, do I also apply a second coat of clear wax?
Thanks for the great tips. I have a question, I have left over white and clear wax, can I mix them and is so what would it do to a royal blue chalk painted dresser
Hello Peggy. You can mix the waxes! Mixing White and Clear will give you a softer white finish.
I painted a piece in old white with clear wax. I used a white lint free cloth, but there are many pieces of lint, dust (don't really know what it is!) stuck on the wax. Seeing it is white, you can see everything. What is the best way to remove them without ruining the wax or the paint underneath?
Hi Darlene, that is such a shame once you have finished a beautiful piece like this! If you want to remove these specks you would need to, providing the wax is completely dry, sand it all back and repaint and then wax again.
How do I paint over chalk paint that I waxed
Love your vids and products!!!
Can someone please help me? This is my first project and I'm painting a desk and going for a distressed look. I'm going to use clear wax first of course and then dark wax. This desk will be used quite a bit, so with that being said do I need to cover it with polyurethane since there will be alot of wear and tear?
Give your wax a good chance to cure before you use it - the longer you leave it, the harder the wax gets. You shouldn't need polyurethane as well. You can read my tips on using wax on my website (www.anniesloan.com/tips) or speak to your local Annie Sloan Stockist for help.
I understand it is not necessary to prime a piece prior to painting, however I would like to prime the piece, before painting it. I am going from a dark color to a white color and it would make me feel better to prime the piece, prior to painting it.. Would that be O.K.?
You could try using another Chalk Paint colour like Paris Grey as a coat between the dark colour and the white colour, if you like.
I know it's been a while since your question but I just finished a dresser that was dark wood. For my own peace of mind I lightly sanded first then used a primer and then started painting with the chalk paint. I used two coats of paint.
Dear Annie, thank you again for your great videos. I have a question - your chalk paint worked perfectly well on my furniture, I applied 2 coats of the same light blue as you have on this video. I let the paint dry for 24 hours before applying the clear wax. I tried everything as you show, but during my process some of the waxed parts of the furniture were "too dark" , the differences between light and dark were very visible and now it has stains. Somehow the colour does not look even at all. I am just now in the middle of the process quite desperately looking at the result :D :D Is it possible that the "orange" spots start to bleed not after applying the paint, but after the wax? I will see how it will look like tomorrow when the wax dries. Thank you, Marketa
If you have orange spots or stains, it's quite possible that you are experiencing some bleed through. Please stop waxing. You will need to apply one or two coats of clear shellac to block the staining action. However, shellac does not adhere to a wax coating. You will need to first repaint over the wax, then seal with shellac. I know this sounds like a lot of steps but they do go quickly. On the other hand, if you finish is simply looking even, most times just another coat of wax will correct that. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
@@AnnieSloanHome Dear Annie, thank you very much. Finally, it ended up better than I thought. The work was mostly already done when I wrote to you and I waited by morning the next day. Even the dark parts lightened by then and after aplying the 2nd wax coat the colour looked much more even. The problem with waxing was, that when I touched the surface lightly with the brush or cloth, the parts which touched the wax were very dark, while the rest remained light. On your videos I did not see such prominent "trace" of the brush, so I panicked. I would love to send you a photo of my "remake" :)) It was an old socialist furniture from 1976 :)) It looks really beautiful, you are a genius and I have ordered many other cans of different colours to do more projects. Have a nice day, Marketa
Is this color Louis Blue?
Hi, this is actually Duck Egg Blue!
I love your paint and it looks beautiful on, but, I've used the clear wax twice and it's ruined it and gone all streaky. I don't know what to do, any tips please?
Apply another coat of wax and work it well in to even out the finish. Use a clean rag to carefully wipe away the excess, but don't buff until the next day. Applying too much pressure after waxing can remove the wax in patches before it has had chance to dry.
Annie Sloan thank you - I've applied two coats already. Anything you could suggest to buff it please? Thank you in advance
Use a lint free cloth; I like to use torn up pieces from a bed sheet, but you can buy cloths that do the same. Just make sure they won't shed any fibres on to the wax!
I’m Going Through The Same Thing Right Now. :(
Did You Find A Way?
Ty, Rosie
Rosie Andrade I ended up using the lacquer which is more hard wearing and less effort
Good to know
Thanks
My pleasure!
How many coats of wax ?
Can i just use antiquing wax instead of clear wax with my project?
Hi Ruthanne, I would recommend using the Clear Wax in conjunction with Dark Wax, as it makes it easier to manipulate and won't stain the paint colour underneath. See our video here for more information: czcams.com/video/BWrEfpCEVZE/video.html

Hello how are you doing today
Hi, Ms. Anne I have an old ditty which living room chair that I want to change the color too. What would be the best way to do it with the chalk paint?
Hi Lisa, painted with Chalk Paint® is easy! There's no need to sand or prime, just get straight on with painting. There's loads of information on my website to help you if you get stuck: www.anniesloan.com/techniques
I applied clear wax to butterscotch chalk paint and it then had a yellow tone. Why did this happen.
Hi Susan, I'm not sure completely what you mean but it sounds like there might have been bleed through from a previous stain or finish from the underneath wood. I would advise using a stain blocker and then paint again with Chalk Paint.
❤
Grande annie👍
I love Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. It is the best. I do have one complaint, though. The new paint cans with the childish drawing of Annie with colorful fingers are terrible! l use the empty ASCP cans for pen holders or for faux flowers, but not the new ones! Please bring back the original plain ones.
Thank you for your comment. Our Chalk Paint® adheres quite well to metal surfaces. Have you considered painting a pretty finish over the tins you don't like?
From where can i buy this paint?
You can purchase our Chalk Paint® through our network of independent retailers that were hand-selected by Annie! You can find your nearest Annie Sloan Stockist by visiting www.anniesloan.com/stockists
