    Great experiment! I'm tired of people who say that cats are stupid, because cats don't act like dogs. Both dogs and cats are smart in their own way and both are great! Didga rocks :)

      Cats are smart and know what people want them to but they mostly just want to follow their own mind. My Ragdoll cat is like half cat and half dog. She understands many words I say to her and is willing to follow my orders.

      ccandsea Not fun at all! I’ve had to have both knees replaced, one hip replacement, 3 neck surgeries to fuse 7 vertebrae, and 2 spinal surgeries to fuse all my lumbar vertebrae. I take 22 doses of medication a day, three injections per week, and lost not one, but two dream jobs. Spent 2 years in a wheelchair, and 8 years so far with a cane. I am just about done !!!!

    Not a Apple to Apple compare. You try a German Shepherd, one of the most smartest dog. My German Shepherd will unwind the rope in a second. Some CZcams video show Dog stack at the door when having a stick horizontal in the mouth. But my dog never has that problem, he will turn his head 45 degrees. Do I need to train him? No, is German Shepherd they born with it.

    Wow so interesting! However I don’t think it has to do with intelligence, I think it has to do with their whiskers! Cats can sense objects out of their view and all around them because of their long whiskers! On the other hand, dogs can’t tell what’s behind them because their whiskers don’t work the same 🙂

    This is one of the main reasons I'm a cat person. They are problem solvers. I respect that as it represents intelligence. I like dogs as well, but they are simply attention whores. If a cat gives you it's attention, then you have earned it.

    Not a really fair test. Didga has a university level education. Those dogs had a preschool education. I trained and showed obedience dogs for 22 years. Not a single one of my dogs would have responded the way these dogs did. They would have done the same thing Didga did. The amount of training an animal has doesn’t prove or disprove that animal’s intelligence, just it’s temperament towards the handler/trainer and the closeness of the bond and relationship between the human and animal. Before everyone gets upset at me, I’m not running down Didga or his human. They have an incredible bond and it takes patience and skill to produce such a bond as they have. I’m only saying that the dogs featured in the video didn’t have the major advantages that Didga did.

    • @brontewcat
      @brontewcat Před 6 lety +1

      Fair enough point, But it is a good ad for Didga’s Dad’s dog school. If he can get Didga to figure it out he can get a dog to as well.

    • @belagracie
      @belagracie Před 6 lety +1

      brontewcat I wholeheartedly agree. Although cats are every bit as intelligent as dogs, they haven’t been bred to be as eager to please as dogs have. The key to training any animal is the handler’s relationship and bond with the animal and vice versa. I have owned cats all my life, but only had one that cared enough to watch me doing training sessions with the dogs and want to join in. It wasn’t a question of how smart he was or wasn’t. We lived in a remote rural area and opened the front door one morning, and in he walked. As I am a hospitable woman, I told him he could stay.
      I won’t say he was hyper-intelligent, but he was super-observant. When he found the dogs were rewarded for certain behaviors, he spontaneously did them, too (and was appropriately rewarded).
      This type of cat, with the type of owner/handler Didga has is extremely rare! It takes a tremendous amount of patience and time. Time, and more importantly expertise that most people just don’t have. So of course it’s amazing and awe-inspiring to the average pet owner. I used to be an average pet owner myself. Would I go to Didga’s dad’s dog training classes? Absolutely! He’s an excellent example of what the pet/owner relationship should be.
