PSA - Invest in a Dash Cam - She Blamed Me For Her Hitting My Truck

  • This lady rolled back into me at a stop light and tried to blame me for running into her. You can see us approaching her and she takes her foot off the brake. She kept blaming me and that I rolled into her saying it wasnt her card because her car is an automatic it cant roll back. Obviously she doesn't understand gravity and torque converters. Good thing I had my dash cam on, she continued to say it was my fault, up until I showed her the dash cam of her rolling. Dis she try to scam me?

      If you want to have your time wasted going into court. I'd be saying "The whole thing is on dashcam." over and over again. Take off work, get stripped searched in the courthouse lobby, sit there all day, finally get called up...…"Here is my dashcam footage of the event." half an hour later, after having them drop their charges, you get to return to the parking garage and pay the city 18 bucks for parking your car. Just isn't worth it.

    • @dcypher3657
      @dcypher3657 Před 5 lety +122

      @@BackSeatJunkie "Strip searched" because you've got court? How poor of an area are you in? Lol Taking off your belt, and throwing your wallet and keys into a tray isn't a strip search. & he's talking about letting the police get the other persons' statement, and then showing them the dash cam footage... *This case wouldn't go to court, and 9/10 others wouldn't, either*.. That's the (WHOLE POINT) of having a dash cam, having evidence of what (JUST) happened. Lol
      I'm sure what Flyinghotpocket means, is getting somebody in trouble for lying to the police, A.K.A filing a false police report, which is a felony. So, instead of the woman in this case just changing her story before the cops get there, she'd face actual repercussions for her actions, and not try to pull the same bitch ass move on somebody else in the future.

      OP is correct, keep silent about the cam until the cop arrives and let her speak first when the cop gets there.
      While waiting, keep subject engaged so they don't think to run. Act like a stupid sheep but obviously never accept blame. Ideally record stuff with your phone.
      "You say I hit you? You're saying it's my fault? We really should get the police here ASAP. Are you sure you don't need an ambulance? You look unsteady. Like in shock. Oh that? Yeah, that's a dash cam. Stupid thing is completely worthless. (Ignore further questions and look depressed about everything.) Oh god if this is my fault it's gonna completely destroy me."
      If you can't get them to damn themselves directly, give them the idea to claim they have a busted back and rack up a huge hospital bill.

I literally had dash cam footage of a woman hitting my car, pulling over, having a discussion in front of my vehicle and for some reason decided to flee the scene when she was told me she was getting her license from her car. I showed the video to the cops and they literally told me to just handle it through my insurance company and that I should be "fine" since I had video evidence to prove that it wasn't my fault...... All that you do by doing that is let her try, try again and now some poor guy without a dashcam is going to likely have to get action taken for something that wasn't his fault. Instead, let her engage in the legal process of pursuing damages to her vehicle, then provide this footage to the insurance company and they'll counter sue AND likely pursue further legal action because she is doing something illegal.

But this one particular left turn -- the one significant turn that everyone needs, never not a line for it -- lasts like 3 seconds. If you miss that window, you're gonna have to wait 2 or 3 more minutes. Literally everyone runs the yellow and several run the red.
      And it's the most direct and easy path from the interstate highway to the center of our town where everything is. It's the worst left turn ever.

    I’m a cop in Ohio and we would definitely appreciate being called for someone doing this. I would have liked to interviewed her first without her knowing about the video. If she stuck to the story that you hit her and she didn’t back into you, I’d charge her for Improper Backing and Falsification. The latter of which “could” put her in jail until the next court date in my county....depending on how off-track and deceptive her story was. If she is a scammer, which it appears she is, then I’d love to have a report with her name on it along with a falsification conviction hanging on her neck thus calling into question her future credibility.
    Depending on the vibe I got from her, it might have even been worth it from an investigation standpoint to keep the video quiet and just cite her for improper backing to see if she filed an insurance claim a week or so later, then hit her with the prior two charges PLUS (insurance) fraud.

I work in NY state as a liability adjuster and if you report a hit and run to the police and use your collision to fix your car it's considered non surcharge able. I once had a case where a young woman told me she was in a hit and run but didn't bother to call the police..of course she tried to say the other car had hit her in the front bumper of her with the doors of his car as she was making a left turn from a parking lot into a 4 lane road. Did she call the police? No she was scared and went home (she's 18). Weird I thought...than a week later I am working another claim where a guy is telling me how he was in a hit run on the same road. He told me the cops came and he was taking the er and that the other car fled the scene but he has the plate because her plate fell off in the street and the cop handed it to him so he could give the number to his insurance company. I drove for a major freightline, and the company decided to put cameras in all the trucks. Of course a driver asked what the cost was, and it was astronomical. So we drivers were upset over all that money being spent. Next year we received a good profit sharing check. Insurance costs were way down. Three wrongful death suites against us for many millions of dollars were quietly dropped after the plaintiff's lawyers received a copy of our dash cam footage. And several of us were cleared of wrong doing in fender bender accidents also. Needless to say, we drivers now love our dashcams. As for myself, I would of missed out on two big safety awards if not for the dash cam showing the deer did not yield and illegally tried to merge into interstate traffic at about midnight one night. First rule of having a Dashcam... never talk about your Dashcam.
    Wait for the police to arrive and show them the video. If you show the scammer the dashcam video, they will quickly change their story, and bid you adieu, like the lady here.... and then they will try again on a different motorist.
    And, she was no doubt a scammer, since automatic cars do not roll back when you let off the brake. Her car was clearly shifted out of drive and into neutral. She wanted a new bumper.

    • @Gibson99
      @Gibson99 Před 6 lety +12

      i agree with the part about "don't tell them you have a cam". but an automatic WILL roll backwards if the slope is steep enough. you'd have to give it gas to stay in one place on that slope. leaving the steep driveway at my job every day taught me how to left foot brake to keep from rolling back in an auto, and later, that same driveway taught me how to use the handbrake to keep from rolling back on a hill start in a manual transmission car.

Now my car is going to bump yours and I would be at fault even though there was little that can be done and they stopped leaving only a sliver of space! I sometimes want to scream at people. :| (not saying that happened here. I’m just saying that pisses me off)

So I told him I can call for the cops, but didn't want me to so I told him no damage to my truck so I'm going and I took his info and drove off, no problems, you have to pay attention to stopped traffic, I told my softball team about it and we had a good laugh.

If you get a 'roll back' fender (or bumper) bender, CALL THE POLICE (and with the use of a dash cam), show them the roll back. If they document the driver did roll back into you, then your insurance is notified, and it hits their record. A couple of times, and they can never pull this scam again.
