  • So much emphasis is put on food plots for deer, but food plots are just as important for our feathered friends! This week, we're in Alabama planting a Pennington mix for doves and Chufas for next spring's turkey season.
Dove hunting is widely popular and we get asked all the time how to attract doves. In the south, hunters are shooting home raised doves, so providing them with what they need now is important for having plenty doves around when the season opens. This location gives us the opportunity to provide them with everything they need, a variety of food, roosting locations, and water.
In preparation for the 2016 turkey season, we planted a 1.5 acre plot of chufas. The important thing to remember when selecting your chufa food plot location is to plant it where the turkeys want to be. Our site is regularly frequented by turkeys and with 1.5 passes of The Firminator, our site was ready to plant!
Now, with these freshly planted dove and turkey food plots, we just need a little rain!

We are getting warmer! Its not duck management, but your managing for animals with wings. I'll take it... Lol! Thanks Casey! Thanks Chuck! I would love to see a follow up. I'm excited to see how both of those food plots turn out. Great job guys! Another fantastic management video. I enjoyed it immensely.

Thanks Allen! Need the rain to cooperate. Just a few miles down the road got dumped on, but the plots remain dry.

With the dove field, do you guys cut/mow that field just before season? If you do cut/mow that field, what implement do you consider using. Is the dove field a annual or perennial?

I live in simpsonville SC and I was wondering what type of food should I plant for late in the season like late November and December and when should I plant it?

Who manufactures the Firminator? Can you overseed pasture with clovers with it as well or is it strictly for plowed ground?

    • @ManagementAdvantage

Ranews Outdoor Equipment. That would be a question to ask them. Since it's not a slit seeder, success in overseeding pasture would probably be limited.
