BLIND Full Stall Grass Landing (Gaston's)

- Jaime, my sister and I fly VFR from Rome, Georgia (RMG) Airport to Gaston's Airport/Resort (3M0) in Arkansas. During the flight we flew through some thick smoke in eastern Arkansas that put a film on the front windshield. That caused a serious restriction of visibility landing into the setting sun on the grass strip surrounded by trees and higher terrain.

Your brother looks to be a really good pilot Kristy. We all have fun flying with him and Jamie. You're lucky you are actually in the plane getting to experience what we only watch on you tube. Relax and have fun.
Hey Kevin, I give Kristi all the credit in the world - she's nervous but she still flies. My wife just decided years ago that she didn't want to fly any more. It hurts me to think of all the cool adventures we missed out on. Thanks for taking us along.
Love watching you guys. At 67 I haven't flown in several years. I miss it. Y'all keep making me feel young. All good.
Way to go Kristy. You are born again hard as we say in the Marine Corps. For you to go up again is a testament to your tenacity and trust in your brother. I commend you. OK, I went a bit overboard on that. Congrats anyway. You're alive and not the worse for wear LOL.
I bet it is breathtaking in the fall with the change of colors
Thank you for the GREAT video, Your sister will get better over time.
I love your videos. I hate flying but for some reason I like watching yours. I do the same thing your sister does. I grab anything I can in takeoff and landing. Have fun and be safe.
Great to have the route diagram, really helps make sense of the approach. Thanks Kevin!
A no sunglass landing into the sun. Well done. Got some 310 Pilot merchandise. Wearing it proudly.
Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. I don't fly but wish I took a different turn in life. Very enjoyable to watch
You certainly had your hands full coming into Gaston. Lots of distractions on top of ground obstacles, multiple traffic targets, Sun, and rising terrain surrounding the airport...Nice job handling it all though! Loved your sister's "Body English." What a trooper though! She was scared stiff and didn't utter a peep! Really enjoyed seeing her in the video..thanks again!
Love that camera view from downwind to base and final. Really awesome view.
Always fun to watch your sister fly!!
I couldn't see either. Glad you were flying lol. Thanks guys.
As always splendid! Your sister is absolutely priceless as is Jaime :-) . Kind regards from Switzerland from an ole 310/421 driver (40 years ago in California...) time sure flies...
Love all your adventures, thanks for having us along.
Thanks for the content guys. Kevin your sister always makes me smile .. On a runway like that with a 310 a greaser is a luxury. Have a great weekend !
Awesome, love the tail cam , Thanks 310
I fish a lot in that area, and in fact keep a boat out there. When I had my Arrow, I kept a car parked at BPK, just a few miles away from Gaston's, so I could be fishing just a couple of hours after leaving my home in north Alabama. I always felt Gaston's was a little over-priced (on both food and lodging) so I usually stay a few miles downstream. BPK is a great airport, and White River trout fishing is great!
Your sister is adorable! Even with the rough landing she was giving you props, I don't know how you pulled that one off!😬
Those little out of the way airports make it all worthwhile, eh?
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Excellent video, one of my favorite places. Thank you.
I have spent a lot of time in that area. My grandmother and granddaddy lived Lyerly/Summerville. Cool tail cam!
I’m finally in multi training flying a 310. This summer head out west and I’d be happy to fly you around Yellowstone and the Tetons. You’re sister is still flying with you so that’s good! Keep up the great video’s.
Another great video. Enjoyed following along. Thank you for sharing!
Love that place! I’ve caught some great trout in that river. Good job landing into the sun like that!
In situations like this during landings experience means everything, nice job Kevin.
Great VID Kevin/Jamie! Thank you for sharing. I can't wait to see the take-off on that strip! :-) Don/NE Ohio
Gaston looks to be a destination to add to my bucket list
Roll Tide Jaime! That's two documented. Keep that Dawg at bay. Great flight Kevin handled that landing perfect. You just got to love a flight of four at a little bitty airport when your workload is busy. Thanks for the ride along and keep'em coming!
Oh wow. Gastons and the White River and Norfork River are my favorite places to go trout fishing below the damage. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Wow Kevin! What a cool place and that was a tough landing. I hate landing straight into the sun. Any dirt or bugs on the windshield creates glare and makes it more difficult. You handled it masterfully sir. Nice!
Great job on the landing pattern graphics. I would not want to try and land with the sun in my eyes like that.
I like the addition of the diagram that explained how you were going to make your approach for the airfield in Gaston. Another great video! Keep em coming!
Love this video and destination. One thing I can't get is there are always people who give a thumbs down. What's wrong with these people? There must be people who love to show negative support for the fun of it. Keep these vids coming folks. We love em.
Great video! I live in Mountain Home just 10 min from there and we go there all the time to fish and watch the fly ins. We have never landed there, usually we fly out of Baxter. Gotta have your A game when flying out and not be overweight! Glad you all enjoyed the area.
Love your airplane! I worked for Cessna as a test flight electrician in the seventies. Spent a lot of time in the right seat setting up the old analogue autopilot on checkout flights. Fun fact: Back then Coors beer wasn't sold east of the Mississippi. Nearly every delivery flight heading east out of Wichita had it's wing lockers full of Coors.
Your sister seems like a fun and nice person.
Last time we were there, the Sunday brunch was available and awesome. All the hanging bicycles from the ceiling ... so different. Thanks for the flight in there!
"Are we there yet?" Love it.
How many more highways?
Amazing- thank you for sharing
Kevin seriously my man you couldn’t see crap and you made a great landing bro! You said it wasn’t a great landing, but given the circumstances that was an awesome landing! Great video as always.
Been there many times. Great place in a great state. Live down the road from there.
Wow!! Nice job Kevin! Looks like a beautiful spot!
Love your channel, and watch all the time. But you guys really got me on this one. This is my old stomping grounds from when I was young. After surviving Lymphoma in the last year, everything means a bit more. Really dig you guys !!! Thank you so much for this, and bringing a tear to the eye !!!
N. Georgia is beautiful ❤️ .... Rome . Ringgold.... Much like the hills of Pennsylvania but with better weather 😁.... Thanks again for the ride along .... So Cool 😎👍👍
I love gaston's. I'm shocked that the airfield wasn't soaking wet with the rain we just had go through this past week.
I love the quick prayer before takeoff!!!
Great times ! Glad your Sister is willing to work through it to have some good family time.
Kinda sounded like 1BC chimed in the moment you were landing :)
Kevin, your sister was worried that you would not remember the Gaston airport and not be able to safely land there. I love the questions she asks.
It cracked me up. LOL
Been to Gaston's a few times. Beautiful place up there!
I was waiting for the "love you sis" caption after the fact, but I do know that sibling torture sometimes knows no end. Great video, the intensity was palpable on the landing - great job!
Super cool video tough landing into the setting sun but you nailed it having sis along was a true bonus Enjoy Arkansas!!
That was some harsh landing conditions! I did a straight into a low sun to a paved runway last summer and it was brutal. You add in the obstacles, the grass, the windscreen film, the nervous passenger and the short(ish) runway, that's a lot of challenge. Doesn't matter how smooth the landing was, just landing was an accomplishment.
Man we love y’all’s videos tail camera is awesome keep keeping on living the life Covington Georgia.
Nice job! Your sister is a trip! Love her laugh. I sympathize cause I'm white knuckles all the way.
Boy that is beautiful country for sure. Wife was born in Arkansas but moved when she was about 8. She wants to add it to our lap of the country when we take off with the RV. I am getting to like that idea.
Quite a dramatic improvement in your sister's reactions from the first vid to this one. I'm impressed.
"But you remember it, right Kevin?" LOL!!!! She's fun. :) That sun was brutal. - Lauren
I enjoyed the graphics you used to show your approach to the airport.
With all that was going on, that was a tight landing.
BRAVO!
The White River holds some of the best tasting catfish there is. . . Anywhere. And I really admire your sister. I'm afraid of heights, but not flying. But she fights the fear. That's bravery. Enjoy your adventures and the flights. Keep it up.
That's a sharp looking paint job 👌
Nerve wracking just watching it, I can’t imagine piloting with that sun in your eyes!! But absolutely a bonus to have 2 sets instead of one up front!!
I've flown into Gaston's a long time ago. Great place!
Being from Southeast Mo, we fly to Gaston’s for lunch on occasion. Love the atmosphere there! Great video!
Thank you for giving us a few minutes of tranquility and relaxation with your videos. Love your Tail cam and your crew. You all are the best, a hug from the punished Spain 🇪🇸
Love your sister. She just needs more time in the air!
Very nice, I especially liked the pictorial of your pattern into Gaston at the 10:40 minute mark.
I go in there all the time! Great place
GO DAWGS, and I love mayo, but the worms for sure!!! Nice flight guys! NC Tarheel boy here!
The Ozarks are a pretty place, one of my favorite motorcycle areas is Northwest Arkansas.
Very very good landing...into the glare non the less 😳. Awesome video. Always enjoy the ride along 👍👍👍🇺🇸!
Good vlog! Great landing - heard the stall warning. Look forward to more content.
very well done that landing
I just bought a 182 and Gaston's is on my list for this year! Just have to get the engine back and the avionics installed.
I think that landing got you qualified for your CAT 3 certification.
Great place to go. Wish we'd of know ya''ll were gonna be so close. Only about a 45 minute hop from Memphis in the Comanche.
I rode right seat into Mt Home AR. then caught a shuttle to Gaston's. Glad we chose that option. It was early morning and the strip was wet at Gaston's. Later that morning a fella landed a King Air 90 on the wet grass strip and he got her stopped just as the nose gear rolled onto the driveway at the end of the strip.
You guys show everyone how much fun flying can be.
Good job landing Bravo Charley with the sunshine’s your faces
Good thing your sister had her blanket! Otherwise who knows what would have happened! Great vid, looks like a beautiful place.
Your sister is so brave. She's awesome!
And, what a cutie-pie, hu?!?
Once again (not surprised) you upped your game with the awesome approach graphics 👍👍
Too funny their reaction when you said, “we have to shoot the goal posts” 😂. Then again watching the rest of the video it was a “hairy” final approach and landing.
"This is so beautiful"
Jaime- "I gotta pee"
Classic!!
Gorgeous setting...looks like a great destination! Really liking the tail cam too!
Kevin, Your videos just keep getting better and better. Thank you for the view of your beautiful C310Q from the vertical stabilizer!.. Glad you could see your approach. LOL Until next time safe flying!
DANGEROUS Strip Kevin!!!
Podunk grass strips are the worst. Learned to fly in a Cessna 170 on a grass strip in 1958.
@@glennellis1584 Its kind of an inside joke. Kevin and I make fun of this pilot that used make videos playing up all sorts of Drama and he made a video claiming that Gaston's was the most dangerous airport to try and impress his female passengers.. We fly there frequently. It's not a big deal if you are on your numbers.
@@JustPlaneSilly "Over The River & Through The Woods To a Grass Strip We Will Go">>>>>
I've seen worse, but the power lines on base must be a challenge, to pilots not from the area. When it snows ???????
I’m with Kevin. I can eat a lot of Mayo. Worms on the other hand ain’t food! That landing into the sun was rough (I mean difficult, not bad). Great job Kevin.
Where you are at is so beautiful and I want to thank you for showing more of what y'all are doing on ground because it is all part of the flight,
y'all are such a nice couple I look so forward for the next one.. Love y'all and thanks
That landing was crazy dude. Great job Kev.
Not good for the windshield at sunset was an understatement. Good job.
I would have been in the back seat with sister screaming,”Pull up man !!!” He did the impossible though. Surprised Jamie didn’t pull the handle off the door on this one.
Loving the tail camera... you videos get better and better thank you
310 pilot: "you got to shoot between the trees like goalposts"... 310 pilot's sister: "wait, wait what?". I love her
Ha ha...she's pretty cute. She's getting better slowly over the last 20 years I've been flying her around. :)

Very nice! I must admit having a plane the sky is the limit!
I just love your sister, She has a great laugh!
Been to Gastons several times fishing. We flew into Mountain Home airport in a jet
What a difficult approach and also when the sun is shining directly in your face...
Looked like at 14:55 Kristy began the landing prayers. That did look like a very tough approach with the sun glare off the windshield and the narrow path through the trees. Can't wait for the next installment.
Just found your channel yesterday and I'm already sold!! That ROLL TIDE did it baby!!! ROLL. TIDE. ROLL!!! lol
Another great video you two (three!). Love the tail cam shots.
