    I did my first cook on the pellet grill yesterday and I am blown away with the results. I did some baby back ribs and followed the recipe that was in the book that came with the Pit Boss. I used Jack Daniels rub and Hickory pellets. The ribs were fantastic!!!!
    Initial startup and reaching set temperature of 225F was under 20 minutes. Temperature was set at 225F and varied only plus or minus 5 degrees during the cook. Following the recipe I had to increase the temp twice during the cook and each time it reach the new higher temp quickly. The Pit Boss performed flawlessly without any hiccups.
    I too had problems with the pellets not sliding down the sides once the bin got less than 1/2 full. As a result I used a paint stirring stick to nudge the pellets over the drop area. Due to the pellet feeding problem I too removed the guard at the top on the pellet hopper just as you had done.
    Thanks for the great video.

    So about the grill on top of the hopper, instead of removing it I took out the two screws on the front and side but left the back two. I use that as a hinge point.

    Thank you for the in-depth review, I bought one last night and I’m looking forward to using it. One question I have is that I do not understand why you want to remove the safety guard from hopper, you mentioned that removing it allows you to stick your hand into the hopper. However, the purpose Of the safety guard is to prevent you from doing just that. Would it not work to put an object that would fit through the guard into the pellets to move them around instead?

    • @ralphstrucking
      @ralphstrucking  Před 2 lety +2

      Cause the pellets at times stick to walls and not slide down it’s hard to get to slide down with the guard.

    I think this was helpful for me to watch this - never having used a pellet grill. My two mainstays are Ribs and Carne Asada, I'm now kinda afraid to go with this size grill. I only cook for a family of 3, but still, I think a rack of ribs or 2 or a couple of slabs of carne asada might be a little cramped on this grill. Looks nice for what it is though

      *Maybe aim for the Pit Boss 850 Pro series. It’s the next size up from this one. Although, if you’re looking to do asada remember on these, you’re looking at the center being the hottest point, so you’ll need a decent preheating time to get those grates hot.*
      I’m new to the pellet game, but I’ve been reading up. My side smoker had been a great companion. Now that I have the 850, I’m looking for the best information.

    • @ralphstrucking

      It all depends on temp you have it set. Higher the temp faster it goes.

    Once the pellet wood dust starts to build up after a couple cooks you wont have that feed problem. Remedy it just by adding more pellets or use an object to shuffle the pellets. I would very much disregard removing the block cause its basically a open ended meat grinder at that point... so be careful pushing pellets down if you do so.
