Hard agree. I want to hear Julien’s thoughts on everything, she’s so insightful and sees beyond what’s obvious or surface level. Really respect the hell out of her intuition as much as intellect.

every time julien speaks i’m just so awed and emotional over how deeply she understands herself and others. and how eloquently she’s able to verbalize these understandings- i just am in awe of her and how she puts her whole heart into every single comment she makes, question she answers, etc.
Julien is so precious to me, anti-curse is legendary

I’m always fascinated by them 🖤🖤 but Kevan did an amazing job at letting the boys dynamic show by never interrupting or asking weird/boring questions, he just went along with them in a way that never felt forced at all, I wish I could add spanish subtitles to this

Absolutely agree with you. Good journalists don’t interrupt to fill pauses. This is a great interview because we learned so much about the subjects. I thought Kevan was excellent. The band is always excellent.

Love this sm but julien getting talked over constantly is physically painful
LITERALLY SAME i’m so hyper focused on her and i get so excited to hear her thoughts when she starts to talk but almost every time she doesn’t get to finish
I got frustrated on her behalf. I kept thinking , “y’all, let her speak,” gah…
Every single one of them has such obviously different neurodivergent qualities. Phoebe interrupts without meaning to (and JB does sometimes too -- sometimes getting talked over is because someone else isn't done, because she will do the "tangent where i was reminded of a thing!" thing, but she also backs down more easily), and the "i'm competitive but i hate games/pass-fail" thing is a very ADHD perfectionist quality. Lucy's 'I'm going to sound so dumb' about Google Drive and pattern recognition is like 'bb you sound autistic, it's okay :P' I'm not actually diagnosing them with these specific things, but would I be surprised if this entire band came back from a neuropsych assessment with overlapping diagnoses? NOPE. We flock together lol.
I do often want Julien to get to speak more (partially because I just love hearing her talk), but as someone who is OFTEN the one who finishes sentences as a sign of excitement and/or doesn't notice when someone's chiming in, that's 100% not her being cut off intentionally. Probably on their own time there's a lot more cross talk, or "what I was saying before was..." later, but in an interview they can't spend ten minutes going "oh no wait what were you saying? go ahead" "no you go ahead it's fine".
(Also, to be fair, the place Phoebe occupies in fame/pop/who she's been pitted up against is slightly different than how Julien or Lucy is generally positioned. People will talk the hell over you or just say exactly what you're saying when you're a younger femme person in any industry much less entertainment, so it's entirely possible she's had to be a little more aggressive about not backing down, out of necessity, and it just carries over a little in public spaces.)
@@faiglerhow I love boygenius for their lack of masking in interviews, it makes me feel so comfy!! Like if they can unmask in interviews and just be themselves and stim however they do than surely I can do the same in a restaurant or something ykwim. Off topic but ugh I just love them !!!
Lucy saying “I’m about to sound so dumb” and then describing part of a TOTALLY NORMAL ARTISTIC PRACTICE of documenting/collecting visual motifs in her environment that resonate with her or say something for her that language can’t… it’s peak self-effacing?
came for boygenius but stayed for the insightful interview questions. so refreshing to see someone get to the formal aspects of their work without gushing on them every other moment.

I’ve never seen a KROQ interview but I clicked on this because I LOVE boygenius, and I just have to say you are one of the best interviewers I’ve ever seen. You asked such good non redundant questions that were personalized but not too personal. I also loved how conversational the interview was!

I also love how they talked about motifs they use in songwriting because I've noticed all of those, plus pheobe loving to mention songs like "'how soon is now' in an 80's sedan" in her lyrics and bringing that over to boygenius too in not strong enough

Why is julien cut by them.. every minute trying to open her mouth too 🙄🥴, also why the interviewer focus only on Lucy and Phoebe?
I've noticed this in other interviews too. Phoebe in particular seems to treat Julien like she's annoyed with her. It's painful to watch because Julien is my favorite and I think she must be protected at all costs lol
Also the interviewer didn’t ask Julien any directed questions…idk the vibes always seem so off towards Julien
I have my “suspicions” and of course I know nothing so that’s why I don’t say like “oh here listen to this hypothetical” but I had the same feelings initially and after talking w my partner my opinion on all this comes from a place of (queer human) love as well as immersive personal work towards deep understanding of “relationship” dynamics of all varieties, as well as things like non verbal communication between people, etc.
all this so to say you’re not wrong & I think the answer will be revealed as to why this is in due time for the boys; it makes me sad bc I see so much of this aspect of Julien when I look back on how I “show up” in a group setting & i hope it’s just a thing they all do now and then with her or somn, and that I’m just overthinking so hard.

@@juliarose8693 I might be projecting, but even the way they perform their setlists (ie. the big 3 at the end of each set/what those songs invoke) seems reminiscent to me as sort of blurring the lines between friendship and romance (don’t get me wrong, I love this stuff- my first love came from something sort of similar in HS) and I don’t want to project my experience/feed into rumors bc what I see is a lot of gender roles at play that I’m all too familiar with being I’m a trans dude now on HRT. The sapphic yearning runs deep w the boys and I’m here for it.
maybe I’m projecting or wishfully thinking though so that’s why I encourage everyone to take shit on the internet w a grain of salt lol.
at the end of the day I want to protect all 3 of them fiercely & im sure there will be great (and hard) discussions ahead but that’s why the boys are so fantastic. I wish I had them when I was younger, but I’ll “settle” for now :)
