Peanuts manager Wally Backman discusses the rain delay with the umpires and opposing manager. After some discussion, the decision is made to "bang" - or call off - the game.
The more I watch PFP, the more I recognize that Phil Plantier and Jamie Toole were working together to make Macon the league's crown jewel. This was probably their attempt at getting Macon back into affiliated ball, and pour money into their league. They knew Wally could produce ten call ups a year easy. Hack might two hacks that shouldn't be in the sport.
"bang it" may sound like a very raunchy term, but its a standard term for "lets go home and let the rain pass and well go again later".... I coached a high school team and that is all I heard was "bang it".... "Robert, they are banging the game" I always heard the AD say... and we got a lot of rain that spring :(
Not only did this team have a player that “got paid” to do their own grounds, they shafted him in pay, and refused to hire grounds crew that quit bc they didn’t get paid and made the team put their on tarps on. That Southern Georgia league was a shitshow and those owners didn’t know shit. Independent ball is so saturated down south and they chose the worst market money wise
The umpire should never add anything to the mix about other teams, standings, etc. Your job is to get the field covered an make a decision if the field is ok and safe to resume play.
Buddy it’s not that deep. South Georgia had already won the first half, Macon was going to win the 2nd half, the team the Peanuts were playing, Bradenton, was out of it so they didn’t care. They were just discussing whether or not this game needed to get finished for league purposes. There’s no conspiracy theory there
I've fallen down a CZcams rabbit hole with all these Wally Backman videos.
💀same
"Plantier fucked it up, pissed everybody off."

that black umpire was ready to go home
You know you're in the minor leagues when you have to pull your own tarp on the field.....
At that point in the season the grounds crew was laid off.
There was a dog in the dugout
Literally no one in the stands....

"lets bang it" rofl
They said "bang it" way too many times in this video.
all the fans will be pissed! not
They didn’t even cover the whole infield that is sad

Sometimes I "banged in" when I did not want to go to work that day.
