Chris, the lack of strength in the clinch and wrestling is due to cutting so much weight on a chubby frame at an old age. Even still his clinch and dirty boxing is second to none. With no weight cut he still retains his hand speed with more power and more strength, while being harder to move and control in the clinch. Also he has leverage advantage when it comes down to the clinch game. Heavyweight DC can beat anyone on any given night.
INb4 Cain comes out and DC thinks he's there to help but then he low blows DC and Brock gets the win then Brock and Cain shake hands and start a new heel stable, and DC has to ask his biggest enemy "Jon Jones" for help to take out his former best friend and Brock.

No matter who won - DC or Stipe would’ve both been playing the face the moment Brock steps in the Octagon. Brock saw just how much the crowd was feeling DC that night so he turned up his heel even more I believe than he was anticipating. Chael understands this better than any other but Brock did brilliantly and it ends up being an insane moment you will all remember.

Many people take pride in the fact that the UFC tries to portray itself as a sport that is "as real as it gets," so when they see that kind of fluff, they frown upon it thinking "if I wanted to see fake/pretend beef, I'd just watch that WWE crap." Whether you agree or disagree, it's easy to understand why people might be a little turned off by it.
