    You can't go wrong with a Feurehand lantern. I've got 5 of them and never had a single problem out of any of them. I also have 3 Dietz. 2 of them are great. The other one leaked right out of the box. I sealed it myself because i didn't want to pay to ship it back.
    The Feurehands are my favorite. They're reliable and never give me any problems. They will last forever if you take care of them. I top mine off when they're low on fuel so my wicks last longer and wash the globes regularly. You can't beat their quality. I hope y'all get the same reliability that I've gotten out of mine. I just used 2 of my Feurehands last week while trout fishing and camping in north Georgia. It's been 15 years and they're still going strong. I can honestly say that you picked a good one.

    Paraffin is not the same as kerosene. Paraffin is a refined form of kerosene, it does not produce any smoke and is safe to use indoors.

    I put together a small stable of deitz airpilot model lanterns as part of my preps. I picked up four of them plus a coil of wick, spare globes and caps. It’s true tgat the ones I picked are made in China , but they’ve been made there for a long time and the quality is good.

    Couple of things, be careful not to lower the wick too far when extinguishing as the wick can drop out of the ratchet and fall into the fuel, this is a pain to re-thread and is a dirty/smelly job. Also the way you describe how to remove the glass is not correct, to remove the glass you pull the top of the spring mounted top and the glass assembly tilts away from the fuel cap side 90 degrees, the glass can then be removed for cleaning/replacement. Your welcome!

    I have three Feuerhand lamps and love them. My problem is, that although two of them work beautifully, the third one does not. I have it full of approved fuel, a Feuerhand wick, I light it, leave it for a couple of minutes, then wind the wick up so the flame is around an inch high. It stays that way for a few seconds, then the flame grows smaller and smaller, and if I leave it like that it goes out altogether. If I wind the wick up further to increase the flame again, it just once again become smaller and then goes out. It's brand new, have only had it a couple of days, and don't know what I can do to fix this problem. Any suggestions? I would assume it's not wicking the fuel properly?

      As I've read, I think it is, but it might not be very pure (quite smelly and may contain sulphur etc that you'd be breathing in). Also read not to burn red kerosene as the dye is toxic to breath.

    • @johnnorman7708
      @johnnorman7708 Před 3 lety +1

      Do not use Coleman camp stove fuel in these. Do not use gasoline in these. Both are too flammable for any wick type appliances. Explosions, injuries, house fires and more can result.

    • @johnnorman7708
      @johnnorman7708 Před 3 lety

      Kerosene is the best recommended safe fuel for this type lantern. There are a few other options that are safe but real kerosene is easy enough to obtain in advance of need.

    • @johnnorman7708
      @johnnorman7708 Před 3 lety +1

      Be advised that while liquid paraffin lamp oils are ok in wick type lamps and lanterns, they will fail if used in extreme cold conditions. The lamp oil becomes so thick that by -30 degrees Fahrenheit it will not wick enough to maintain a flame. Significant reduction in flame will be noticed by 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

      If you have access to actual aviation jet fuel know as Jet A in the U.S., it is a safe highly refined kerosene.

      Just took note that there may be a terminology difference between USA and other countries in regard to the American kerosene and your liquid paraffin fuel. They may be the same fuel by different common names. However the American lamp oil typically for use in indoor decorative oil candles is a liquid paraffin that is different from our kerosene. It is often scented. It does not flow well for winter conditions outdoors at low to extreme low temperatures For emergency lighting under varying unknown temperatures stay with the kerosene as we Americans call it.
