      @@drexlspivey3047 Eli didn't beat Brady. The Giants defense did. How many times in 2007 and 2011 did 17 or even 19 points beat the Patriots? Zero, if I recall correctly.
      But, then the defense holds Brady to one of his worst games of the year and Eli still barely manages to win. Eli was just a long for the ride. If it was a 35-38 shootout, then you have a legitimate argument that he outperformed Brady. Barely outscoring him on his worst day of the year is not impressive.
      Everyone says that the defense was a liability. They weren't. In both postseasons combined, they gave up an average of 15.1 points/game, none over 20, and an opposing passer rating of 74. And Eli still barely managed to win on lucky last second plays.
      The idea that he was the MVP is so misleading. Without the defense doing what they did, both those "great passes" are mere footnotes in a blowout if just an average Patriots team shows up.

      There is no comparison. Romo was especially better, but he was never carried by the defense. It was all Romo or they didn't win.
      Eli was carried by a defense that only allowed 15.1 points/game, no game over 20 points, and an opposing passer rating of only 74. And Eli still barely manage to win 5/8 games. And 2 of those were overtime games in which for both overtimes combined, he was 3/7, 17 yards, 1 sack for -10 yards, so 7 attempts, 7 yards. And he's given credit for both wins.
      And even if it was all Eli in both SBs (which it clearly wasn't), SB wins should be the cherry on the cake. Not the whole cake.

    It's not just the two Super Bowl wins. Its about an outstanding career in combination with those Super Bowl runs. Eli still holds the record for the most passing yards in a single postseason and only Tom Brady and Joe Montana have more postseason 4th quarter comebacks.

    • @tomknapp6194
      @tomknapp6194 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Just a simple question. Is a QB likely to have more yards in 3 or 4 games? The best QBs usually have a first round bye. So, let's be fair and compare the average of any QB that played 3 or 4 games.
      Eli suddenly is no longer #1. He's not even in the top 10. He's 14. That's a big drop. His yards/attempt put him at 19th. Once again, below average results add up if given enough chances.
      Brady came within 100 of breaking that record. Twice. In only 3 games. About 5 others were within 200, an easily attainable goal in today's league. Stafford was within 20 on about 30 fewer attempts.
      This is a good example of Eli's career. The headline sounds really good, until the facts are examined. His whole career is a literal smokescreen of great headlines that are simply a half truth at best.

    • @citizenghosttown
      @citizenghosttown Před 6 měsíci +1

But here are some of the QBs who had at least one postseason of 4 games: Jim Kelly, John Elway, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Ben Roethlisberger, Kurt Warner and Matt Stafford. Yet it's Manning who holds that particular record.

    • @tomknapp6194
      @tomknapp6194 Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@citizenghosttown @citizenghosttown There is something you are seriously overlooking. Eli's yards/attempt was 7.5. The list I'm looking at only goes up to 28 and there is no Eli. Oh, yeah, #28 is at 8.0 yards/attempt, so below average Eli is probably around 50th all time in that stat.
      He literally has this record simply because he had more attempts by a wide margin than the other QBs. There is no magic to throwing a lot more than everyone else for below average results. For this group, 7.5 is below average.
      And that's the story of Eli's career. He has great headlines that tell a half truth at best. When the facts are examined, most of the time it is just an outright lie, like when they said something like, "Eli Leads Giants to SB Win Over Brady" He did no such thing either time. The defense did all the heavy lifting and Eli got all the credit for basically 2 passes. He would literally get credit for a win when he did nothing on the game winning drive. When they lost, anything and everything was blamed, but not Eli.
      And outside of his iron man streak, the rest of his below average career comes with a huge asterisk. And it does not paint a pretty picture.
      And I notice you didn't touch the fact that Brady almost broke Eli's record in 3/4 of the games it took Eli. Do you really think that if Brady had a 4th game, he wouldn't easily have that record? Twice?

    • @citizenghosttown
      @citizenghosttown Před 6 měsíci

      @@tomknapp6194 Yup. Some of Eli's stats are not so impressive. But here's the problem. You can't, on one hand, claim that Eli's boosters are looking at only half the story and then claim that Eli won 2 Super Bowls with 2 passes. That's not a serious argument - it's a fraction of the story. The defense carried him? Hardly. In 2011 especially. He took a team with a mediocre defense and the worst running game in the NFL and carried the team on his back.
      Bottom line is that he has a very unique resume and was, arguably, the most clutch postseason QB in NFL history. Check out the analytics over at 538. (You can pretend he got lucky, but nobody gets THAT lucky) That's why he'll waltz into the Hall of Fame.
      As for Brady, it's not as if he never had a 4 game post season. He did. There have been dozens of QBs -- including several HOF QBs - who had 4 game post seasons. But it's Eli who holds that particular postseason record. And besides, it's not as if anyone is claiming Eli's anywhere near as good as Brady. But he was at at least as good as several QBs in the Hall.

    I actually normally love Skip’s HOF test, BUT Skip forgets Eli put up 2 TD drives (the first QB since Joe Montana to do that in the SB) against the Pats in the fourth quarter at the 2007 SB (he hit Tyree on a play-action pass to go up 10-7) and I am positive that he was the first QB to score a TD at the closing seconds of the SB when a field goal wouldn’t tie the game. We take for granted that Eli balled out in the playoffs. In 2011, the defense was ranked 32nd, gave up 49 points to the Saints in the dome, and our run offense was ranked dead last. How many guys LOST with more?? (Tom Brady, Bret Favre, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Aaron Rodgers all lost with more every year) I remember 2011, that defense got it together because it believed Eli could deliver. No matter how bad that team was (and we know he never had a great team because the Giants gave Eli all their money), its players always believed it had a shot because #10 was under center. Eli and the Giants was the last team into the playoffs each time and went on the road and beat everyone and then knocked off the GOAT twice and got SuperBowl MVP. idc about his 117-117 record, Nolan Ryan is considered by most as one of the greatest pitchers of all time and he was mostly a 50-50 pitcher and had almost as many walks as strikeouts as well. It happens, but he wont when it mattered too. Same with Eli, plus for Eli, he never missed a start to injury, he got smashed for years with garbage olines and never got hurt. if it wasnt for 1 terrible coach benching him he would have had more starts in a row than he does. He was tough as nails and was dependable and even as the end could throw it and make the throws that some guys now cant. Put him in.

      2x SB MVP? Where would those trophies be if the defense didn't hold Patriots teams that were averaging over 30 points per game to 14 and 17 points?
      12x 20 TD passing season? That's because he threw A LOT! His TD percentage (TDs/100 attempts) was top 10 a meager 5 times in 16 years.
      And once you factor in attempts, that 7th all time yards turns into 93rd all time yards/attempt. Behind such notables as Jay Cutler, Dante Culpepper, Rich Gannon, Baker Mayfield, Marc Bulger, Chad Pennington, and Ryan Tannehill. And he's also behind all of them in TD percentage, interception percentage, and passer rating.

      Something else to think about is that he was 2-0 vs Brady in the SB. But, he was also 117-117 against the Jay Cutlers, Carson Palmers, Rex Grossmans, Andy Daltons, and dozens of other average/below average QBs.
      In fact, his yards and TDs per attempt are exactly the same as Andy Dalton. But, Dalton had a better completion percentage and lower interception percentage. So, Eli was literally just a worse version of Dalton, who most would not think was better than average.

      I love how they leave out so much in their "debate". Eli is top 10 in every category that matters to a QB. Top 10 in yards thrown, touchdowns, and completions. Only 4 QBs in NFL history have won more Super Bowls than him. He made the careers of Mario Manningham, Victor Cruze, Hakeem Nicks, Steve Smith, Plaxico Burress, Odell Beckham, and Jeremy Shockey. EVERY one of those guys left the Giants and their careers folded. Odell has a long career ahead of him, but he's not looking so hot anymore! He's in good company though! All those guys mentioned above had great seasons with Eli at QB. What do you expect when you have a QB that's top 10 all time at every important QB metric. He's going to have lots of people putting up big stats. A hall of famer makes everyone around him better. That's exactly what Eli did. 1st ballot hall of famer. The Giants roster was mishandled for MANY years after his two Super Bowls. Every GIants fan will tell you how terrible Jerry Reese became at managing a roster. He let his offensive line regress and never fixed it. Giants fans screamed out for years: "Fix the O-line! Get rid of Ereck Flowers! He's terrible!". They rode that wave for years and Eli payed for it. The O-line was so bad that they had to navigate an entire offense around it because Eli was getting touched on just about every play. So they made an offense that would get the ball out of his hands on every play within 3 seconds. It completely limited his game.

And he’s not the only quarterback he wasn’t an all pro and made the hall of fame, Troy Aikman was never an all pro but he made the hall of fame. Also Eli has made more or equal pro bowls to a few different hall of fame quarterbacks. For example Terry Bradshaw only made 3 pro bowls. Ken stabler made 4 pro bowls same as Eli and both of them are in the hall of fame. Eli literally had to rely on Brady (2007 and 2011), Romo (2007), and Favre (2007), all pro bowl QBs those years, to have their worst game of the year and he still needed a slew of lucky plays to barely pull out a last second wins against teams that didn't score over 20 points when those same teams averaged 35 against the very same defense in the regular season. And all this was because of Eli? Please elaborate. To me, it sounds like the if the defense didn't finally do their job, the Giants 21 (2007 vs Cowboys), 23 (2007 vs Packers), 17 (2007 vs Patriots), and 21 (2011 vs Patriots), would have all been blowouts and those "clutch plays" (I'm sure Eli closed his eyes on the first one, maybe both) would have just been little footnotes on lucky plays that didn't matter.

    Eli has a very small window to get in. He retired a couple years early to get to the eligible line ahead of Brady, Breese, Roger's, rothlisberger.... he has like a 2 year window or else he sits for a decade

    I'm not a New York Giants fan, but, if you were to ask me, personally "In your opinion, does Eli Manning deserve to be in the Pro Football Hall-Of-Fame?", I would say "Yes.".
    On the top of that, he should also have his #10 retired & go into the New York Giants "Ring Of Honor", in my opinion.

      @@ArgentineFootballfan1978 Eli robbed Brady of a perfect season as well as two Super Bowls. Went 2-0 against him in the big game. Nothing Brady did against Eli from that point on could make up for that.

    Skip, if you have to take away a players stat to prove a point, you’ve lost the argument. The fact that you are trying to say “what if this happened” or “if this didn’t happen...” means that you don’t really have a fair point in the side of the argument you are trying to defend. Stop taking away players stats to prove a point it’s absurd and not accurate at all.

      O K His stats aren’t that good lmfao... of course he’s high up on cumulative stats, he’s been playing in the passing era for 15 mediocre years (Look at Frank Gore is he at all comparable to Barry Sanders?), if you adjust stats for era and compare it to his contemporaries he’s nothing special at all

      @@harryheinrich5626 frank gore at least gets respect because he was the only weapon on bsd san fran teams and still moved the rock. Also, durability in a position with the shortest shelf life. Even then though gore is super debatable. However, that durability is what gets him talked about and why hes breaking records.

      That's was not the case at all. Tell me one team in the last 20 years that's made the playoffs with a bottom tier defense? Of course any team is gonna get blown out with a bad defense that's common knowledge. Look at how many game winning drives Eli has had and tell me the names you see around him but cant carry a team in close games???

      Art Vandalay the chiefs last year?
      Like I said, compiling volume mediocre stats is not impressive. This isn’t the same as Lebron James or Tom Brady, who have had an extended period of GREATNESS, playing for a long time mediocrely is not impressive....
      Also, even though it sounds like I’m bad mouthing Frank Gore I’m not. It’s just simply he isn’t as good as Barry Sanders and him continuing to compile stats won’t ever change that.
      We can’t just look at volume stats & just say that’s good enough for the HOF, his whole career isn’t HOF worthy.

      @@harryheinrich5626 on the note of gore, i don't think anyone is placing him in the top 10 HBs of all time purr from skill. Because he's nowhere near as good as them. But, thr durability argument works for him (and mainly him not Eli) because of thr demand from the position in physicality on a day in day out basis. That's not an argument you can make for QBs unless that QB is cam.

      You cannot directly compare QBs of even more than about 5 years. Today's pass happy league/pamper the QB league is not the same that Aikman, Montana, Marino, etc played in. Put Eli in that league and he's out in less than a year.
