    • @UltimateGamerCC
      @UltimateGamerCC Před 2 lety +2

      the reason that it failed overall was because of two major factors... 1. SEGA lost a ton of money between the SEGA 32X, SEGA CD and sadly the SEGA Saturn, the Dreamcast was intended to be their last hurrah, no matter how it faired. 2. Sony was dominating the market at the time, only the SEGA diehards bought the Dreamcast over the legendary PS2. Nintendo was also financially hit with the N64 and Gamecube's failure, but they survived since their fanbase was fairly larger than SEGA's, Sony was killing it back then and that's no joke at all.

    Fantastic video as usual, Dreamcast was an amazing console for its time, the catalogue was lacking the many mainstream genre games that other western consoles had, instead it had a huge percentage of japan focused graphic novels, board games, fishing simulators. Technically was ahead of its time but the catalogue didn’t make justice to it.

      More than half of these games are Japan only. In comparison, the N64's Japan only lineup is 20-25% of the library. Not to mention, the Dreamcast had a much longer life in Japan than in the west.

    The Dreamcast was a much more capable system than the PS2, but Sega were fighting an unwinnable battle going against Sony after the success of the original Playstation. If Sega had the support of developers that Sony did and actually got their own better looking version of games that were released on PS2, I think we could be playing the DC3 or DC4 today.

    Why are people saying "now i know why it has failed" Yet it was successful in their native country (Japan) like the Saturn?
    It failed in the West without those visual novel games just like the Sega Saturn.
    Obviously it is a Japanese console so it's leaning towards the Japanese market. The reason why it looks underwhelming is because most developers leaned towards the PS2. PS2 had a much bigger market-share (logical)
    Sega only had Capcom and SNK and Sega himself in-house as support most of the time.

    I think US catalog was a little better (except for shmups or fighting games), but some videogames was ported from PS1. Fortunately I can play my favs on my japanese console :D
    In general, region exclusives tastes are US: cars / EU: sports / JP: rpgs- shmups - visual novels - kofs - table games.

    Herculean effort to compile all the DC games inc unofficial releases. Only seen a couple of errors (Such as Surf Rocket Racers and UEFA Striker getting counted twice due to completely different titles in Japan) but seriously great job! I had no idea Japan had so many episodic releases, or visual novels. XD

    Man gamers were actually eating quite good back in the 90's / early 00's kinda crazy considering how early all this was from a tech perspective. A lot of stuff being done for the first time in a real way. The dreamcast had a lot of bangers which is why it had maintained a cult following all these years. The system failed largely because of Segas mismanagement not because it was a bad console quite the opposite.

    You included an aftermarket game like "wind and water" but left other aftermarket games out like Ghost Blade.
    This year (2019) many more aftermarket games were released for the Dreamcast. Do you think you will make a video of those?
    Same goes for other systems like the Genesis. Xenocrisis was released this year! Just wondering if you would do addendums for those kind of gamea
