I used to hill bomb a lot it wasn't scary unless cars started popping up in the wrong spots at the wrong time. Is there advice you could even give or is it just like the dude says "if it gets too scarred then you weren't supposed to do it in the first place"
@@thesmilingvagrants advice for bombing hills safely or just skating in general? In either case i definitely dont agree with the "if its too scary you were never meant to skate in the first place" statement. @@yellowsaurus4895 It's just Jake ranting, that statement might fit better with hill bombing than skateboarding in general because it's kinda dangerous compared to a public skate park. I'm fine doing some mellow hill here and there but this stuff that Pedro does is big no no for me, most modern skaters probably didn't dream of becoming a downhill rider so shut it old man and let the kids decide for themselves!
Because 99.9% of us won’t be famous or anything it’s just glory for us and the boys. Don’t break yourself off to impress your buddy Greg just cause you’ve skated together for years.
My worst injury from skating was from a hill bomb. Wasn't looking at the ground in front of me since I was a little drunk. Woke up in the hospital with a bad TBI brain bleeding and everything. Appreciate you spreading some knowledge dawg. Don't bomb gnarly hills if you're too drunk to appreciate the danger!
Phelps' line about if it gets too scary you were never meant to do it in the first place is exactly the kind of dumbassed shit I expect from our dearly departed Thrasher Edinchief.
I'vee been hill bombing solo all my life (48 yrs old), never fallen, never hit a car, but I've been lucky, and normally go late at night when there's no or few cars. The only time I've been feeling threatened, was when I took a hill bomb at about 5pm in the afternoon, traffic was heavy, but I got lucky. Always walk up and down the hill a lot before bombing it - know every little nook and cranny! And like Pedro said, if you don't feel like doing it, just go do something else. Never force the flow!
I'm the opposite. 3 months into skating I bailed my first bomb due to wobbles and tried to run out of it. Bad idea. Definitely used a lot more caution after that.
About two years back I was bombing this hill I would always go down at my home town, I had only been skating for like 8 months and I was stupid hyped because I'd just seen that switch flip to hill bomb in uncrossed the night before, and with the monologue, damn that was something. I was so manic about skating that day I was pushing like crazy down that hill, I ended up getting wobbles while my weight was up front and my board pitched me forward so I hit my knee, head, and wrists in one blow. Bombing is gnarly. That fall really made me look at skateboarding differently from then on, it's something that will just call you in a sense, you shouldn't force it, or something like that. I guess one learns something everyday, especially doing something like skateboarding. Anyway big love from Michoacán MX Pedro, you've been a big inspiration on me.
It’s such a shame you never get Skater of the Year.. I’ve been rooting for you to get it since 2018. You’re like the only one on top that’s true to 80s Thrasher. Thanks for keeping Skate Rock alive!
appreciate this info for people who are just starting skating and just some helpful reminders with people already pushing out the streets. mad respect for dudes out in SF too. S/O to GX1000 crew y'all give me anxiety watching those videos
Out of all the pro skaters, and all the video parts, Pedro Delfino gets me the most stoked to go skate. If I'm feeling lazy, all I have to do is watch his part in Uncrossed and I'm hyped and ready to go.
Yesss Pedro! Great vid, please make sure to give us your insight in how to skate transition; I feel that your ability to control speed in that way has given you a lot of control in the ramps
Genuinely useful information from a modern legend. Uncrossed is my favorite skate video of all time, and you helped take that video to the next level Pedro 🙌🔥
This is some good advice, brings me back when I used to skate hills back when I was going to school in Santa Barbara. I was mostly just using street cruisers and short longboards back then, and with the streets and sidewalks usually being in bad shape I always wanted to have some pretty big and soft wheels. Having a decently tight truck setup is a big deal, you don't want to be getting speed wobble. Looking back, I gotta count my blessings because I don't think I would be willing to do the sort of stuff I was doing back then. Took a few spills, but nothing bad, knowing how to roll when you hit the ground is key.
I live in the same hood Pedro, I have done my share of Hill lines through here and your words, observations and advice are on point. Big UPs and Respect... Ya' rip it up in a super good style Breddah! Jah Bless!
Hill bombs were like the gateway for me, my first board was this pig wood cruiser that was my friends dad's, she gave it to me so i could keep up because i didmt have one. So there was this hill i used to always have to take on the way home from school that was like a side walk in a park that shoots u into the street with no curb cut and i always used to stop before the bottom but one random day the voice in my head told me not to stop at the bottom so i listened to it and just flew off the curb into the street full speed and kept going and was sparked for life. I never woulda found the stoke if i didnt just blindly listen to that voice.
thanks so much for this. went to college in sf and all my homies loved to do was bomb hills whether it's twin peaks or in the sunset. i'm a pretty experienced skater and can ride hills but one night i was drunk with my homie and he wanted to bomb 19th and santiago and i was already feeling uncomfortable with the idea. i fogort how loose my trucks were and ended up bailing and got a minor concussion, but lesson learned if you don't wanna do it you don't have to and don't fall for peer pressure.
Always watching 🕶 that switch bomb in yellow and bail was so great. You’re bombing shit most can only dream of. It’s beautiful and a pleasure to watch. I like your approach as well, not as insane as the average onlooker might think as you go flying past them half way down a hill. Stay safe out there
I slammed my 55kg Unstretched and not warmed up body into concrete like a million times, jumped down stairs till I couldn’t walk, tried a trick 45 times down a 5 feet gap, rolled my ankles 634 times, popped the board into my knee at Mach 5 so I couldn’t bend my leg for 2 weeks because of the swelling, I landed primo from a six stair, snapped my tendons, wore of my joints to the point I literally couldn’t go flat ground skating anymore, but never ever In my life did I hurt myself properly when bill bombing. If you’re to fast to run out, make sure you stomp as hard as you can. Worked every time, even at almost 40kmh I got to the point of speed wobbles hundreds of times and just never laid myself. I had to make the stomp of life, and ended up not being able to walk for one or 2 days, but never did I lay myself I’m really proud of it
Was playing Uncrossed in the shop today (again) and was holding people hostage from leaving until your part finished. I always say, it’s not a Deathwish video until Pedro almost kills himself. Much for you man.
This video is great advice! I bombed this hill last week that was massive. A UPS truck was going up the hill and I made eye contact with him and he thankfully stopped and pulled towards the side(I wouldn't have been able to stop if he hadn't moved, got lucky af) At the bottom of the hill, the road was like a T intersection and I went to the left, and didn't turn quick enough and went into someone's yard. I tried to run out of it and when I saw grass, fell forward and slammed my face and shoulder and left elbow so hard it ripped my hoodie. Also got my left hip pretty good and had dirt all up in my pants. Definitely wanting to re try it, but it was like .25 miles long from top of the hill to the bottom intersection and hella steep. I'm glad I didn't get seriously hurt though because I was flying.
My biggest tip would be just *ALWAYS* assume you're about to hit a pebble and go flying, and be ready for that at whatever speed you're going. Obviously hold the board down, but be ready to either 100% commit or step off. Don't do something in between, or you're gonna get way more hurt if something goes wonky. And never put your hands in your pockets unless you wanna get karma-checked lol
I got death wobbles on a hill , came off the board at the bottom and slid on my back for at least 6 metres. My arms had some scratches and a bloody elbow , but its a good thing i was wearing my school bag because it really saved the skin on my back from being cheese grated off.
Such a good video! Thanks for having the balls to share this stuff! Can we get a hill bomb technique video basically your method to handle the big hills? How to avoid speed wobs and general body positioning ?
