- Tryied out a Nintendo 64 hacl called Shotgun Mario 64. It was pretty awesome. Hope they can work out the bugs on the console version down the road. Other than that it was really awesome

I didn't like the level design personally, I didn't particularly love the look of the game either (Color Palette?). Mario maker 2 seems to have killed my interest for these kind of by the books 2d sidescroller Mario games, feels like i've been there and done that.

The shotgun Mario thing is very well made for what it is, but it's one of those things you play for 5-15min and then you've experienced the thing, time to move on to playing the actual game or something else.

I hate the camera angles. And I hate all the moves.
And yeah when this game game out I barely played it because I didnt like it. I got the game played it for 20 minutes. Decided it was trash and opted for other n64 games I liked better. And I still feel the same way.
I like Rogue Squadron, Wave Race, Smash Bros, Goldeneye (at the time). And others, gauntlet, robotron, tetrisphere. Plenty of n64 shit I like, but like a lot of other people, sorry its a no go on mario 64. Dont know the moves because I barely played it because I cant stand it.

I really should sometime. C64 games can be rough to load, and as much as I love them, id probably play it shortly in some kind of variety stream. I am a huge fan of them though, all of it. Silents and shorts. The movies not quite as much, but I’ll take anything with them. True stars to me.

Have to say that this hack really inspired me to play...the vanilla version again.
As someone who holds nostalgic memories for Super Mario 64 (first game I got for N64, played it a lot when it came out and enjoyed it immensely), what annoys me most about looking at this hack is that it basically takes all the challenge out of the game and takes it down to Super Mario Wonder levels of difficulty. Have trouble finding the pink bob-ombs to open the cannons? No problem, just shoot open the cannon placements! Having trouble getting enough stars to go to the next area? No problem, just shoot open the f'n doors! Bullys giving you a hard time? Just shoot them off of the stage! Having trouble with a difficult jump and you are too lazy to actually learn the various jumps? Why, now you have a double jump at your leisure and it makes it easy as lemon pie!
If I had encountered this hack and played it for a while, I would have probably given it the fucking finger treatment while muttering "Get this shit off of my screen! Never again!" Those other Mario 64 hacks looked way more interesting to me and more like what I would look for in a Mario 64 hack, need to write their names down.
In general though, it seems like the N64 hack community still has a way to go to be on the same level as their 8-bit and 16-bit compadres.
