- Mario aka. "The BPM machine" from Gojira talked to us in Munich. Besides their unique songwriting and Gojiras inspiration he also revealed his secret of being a famous top-drummer. Behind their current album "Magma", which sounds different in its own way, a very personal story is hidden.

It's interesting watching two people who's native tongue is different, speaking the same language.
I've always thought we(all people) should just pick a language already. it would solve sooo many problems. yet our egos and pride of "heritage" or whatever gets in the way. what a shame.
An author made an attempt and created a language called Esperanto, that was supposed to be used as the international language but it failed miserably.
I would like to see them get a baby together...;-). They're so cute..

The issue wuth Esperanto was it was way ahead of its time, like Woodrow Wilson. People still arent ready for stuff like that and definitely werent 100 years ago
I've been listening to Gojira for about 7 or 8 years. I'm now starting to believe that Mario is actually human.

That's cool how him and his brother have such a good connection.
I respect Mario so much I mean this is a man who’s work ethic and discipline directly impact the product of what he does. He takes the music and staying healthy really seriously and he’s able to push back his age. Not to mention he’s one of the most badass drummers out there. Pretty inspiring 🤙

Well...
It's his practice. If you look up their live shows you can see they play mostly for an hour long, sometimes even longer. So it's basically like 1 hour of double bass.
His stamina is really crazy, that's why I look up to him.
She is a great intervier! Spontaneous and makes Mario to be comfortable ....
Seriously the best drummer in the genre. The great rhythm sage shines atop the misty peaks.
1 hour double bass between 170 and 210 straight... yeah no biggie.. just a casual exercise.... 👀

I do that same exercise sore at first but now I have no feeling in my legs
Im doing 1hr double pedal non stop,been starting at 120-140bpms. But definitely going up!

I just have to say this, you can tell that Mario practices and loves the music he plays.
It's a joy watching him play and give his all on stage, truly an amazing musician.

I am a new fan as of about 3 weeks ago when a friend of mine was playing "Gift of Guilt"..now can not stop listening to them....
Gift of Guilt is what I call an "introduction song", because it catches everyone's ear, and everyones attention to the band
When i saw them live i didn't know who they were. The song that caught my attention was stranded but i fell in love with gift of guilt. I already learned how to play it lol

I think, it's really hard to realize how known you if u are this humble....haha they are so cute in interviews and so brutal on stage.

When I discovered him in Gojira I was blown away and kept on seeing videos of them. He is so good. It's next level if you ask me.
I'm drumming for many years and Mario is one of the most incredible drummer I ever seen , it's also a very sweet and very spiritual person , I'm French like Mario and I'm very proud of him , all France should be proud of GOJIRA band.

I've always liked how people transport their language characteristics when they speak English.
Italians speaking English are also fun.
Super Mario is what fans call him. His technique is just mind blowing. I watch him play and enjoy every minute. I go out of my way to find the "drum cam" videos of Mario playing. He looks like Animal from the muppet show except he is only looking like Animal when he headbangs. The head keeps time with the feet and the hands do something completely different. It's a lot of stress on one body and mind to get that all straight I imagine. I kind of picture Mario thinking about what's for supper after the show sometimes even when he's really working those drums hard. lol I love that Magma is my first Gojira album and I'm a mother of metalheads too. It's a beautiful album.
He is truly a great ARTIST ! So much respect ! \m/

Fascinante. Ele pegou aulas com professor de baterista Jazzista. Agora entendo o motivo dele ter uma pegada técnica pra lá de peculiar. Os bateristas jazzista são extremamente técnicos. E não pense que eles não pegam pesado. Ao contrário os caras saem rasgando e arregaçando. O pouco que eu vi do Buddy Rich... rs coloca qualquer baterista do metal no bolso.
