Its August and usually I would have had 2-3 of these big harvests already but the weather has been a challenge. Unseasonable warm, humid and zero rain, something I've seen many people deal with this year. But thankfully, the garden is still growing, and things are finally ready. Harvest and preservation season is in full swing.

Hey There! Thank you so much. My Jalapenos were hit or miss in previous years but once I started using "Craigs Grande Jalapenos" from Baker Creek that seemed to do the trick! Great for poppers :)
I know this is 5 months late, but maybe you and do this next year. For convenience I chop and freeze a lot of herbs besides dehydrating them. It makes it possible to make things like fresh salad dressings and sauces, without having to buy fresh herbs. All of those herbs freeze very well. I just chop mine put them in mason jars and keep them in the freezer. I just made trambuli which is very heavy in fresh herbs.

This is really encouraging. We just hand built and are about to move on to a quarter of an acre, which we decided on because we will have it fully paid off in 3 years. Part of me has been wrestling with the fact we don’t have the acerage for ivestock and an unreal garden- but seeing your joy, your bountiful garden, chickens, and other prep-work… I think a lot of that dreaming is coming back- just on on a smaller scale ✨❤️ I’m excited about our next chapter!!
Hi! I'm so glad you were encouraged by it! There is a TON you can do with a small space. I understand wanting more land, we hope for it one day too, but don't let the lack of space discourage you from pursuing your dreams. Make your waiting room your classroom and enjoy the process! Your chickens can eat some of your vegetables. You can also include certain herbs in their diet as well. Some herbs are microbial.
They get a smorgasbord of produce during the summer months! 😊❤️

Your harvest is amazing. I also garden and love growing food for our family. At the moment I'm still up to my eyeballs in tomatoes and eggplant but canning up foods almost everyday. This year we grew Jerusalem Artichokes and can't wait to harvest them late fall and winter.
How exciting! I’ve never grown or eaten Jerusalem artichoke! Let me know how you like them. We just got our first frost so what was left of the garden is gone. I’m excited for and already planning next years. I’m welcoming the slower pace that fall brings though. A rest is needed after all that harvesting and preservation!
Use some of your abundance of parsley in chimichurri sauce. It freezes well to pull out in the wintertime to cook with.

Great video Kelsey! Regarding parsely, ever try freezing it? Place in a jar with a paper towel over the top of the herbs and seal with a lid. The paper towel helps to prevent freezer burn :) I like making tabouleh with parsely. Just saw a recipe for "green rice" that incorporates a lot of fresh herbs in a rice dish.

Did you use the Japanese beetle traps? The chickens will love munching on them!! I am so looking forward to spring....we are getting chickens and I am so excited!!. We have a few raised beds but we are building several more this spring. All of your flowers are just so beautiful and your tomatoes were amazing!!
I did use them! I was just in overrun with them 😭I emptied them multiple times a day to no avail... I applied beneficial nematodes and milky spore... we shall see if that helps at all! Thank you so much!!! 🤍☺️

@@seedandsparrowhomestead I bought the garlic at the psu ag progress days from a master gardner. Easy and she gave me instruction sheet too. I will share
Is the blackout helpful? I'm not sure if I should use wood-chip or blackout sheeting like you have.
I now use the Dewalt landscape fabric for areas I don’t want anything to grow like walkways and then I use Charles Dowdings “no dig” method and lay cardboard down first wherever I grow in ground!
