YOU KNOW IT! I am just looking at the Top 100 Songs of 1969 and what a treasure trove in there! I was 16 in 1969, so it's no wonder I am a 'music lover' to this day!
I left England in June 1969 & sailed to my new life in Australia as a 20 yr old..I had this song ,among others in my luggage. This got played at least a half dozen times every night in one of the lounge/bars onboard the Fairstar. Ahhhh back when everything was simple, free & easy.
1969-1970 MUSIC...I was a maniac street racer those years. Driving out of Brooklyn, N.Y.C. .....I was 16 years old.....Ha Ha Ha ! Those days were a lot of fun. I am now 68 years old. Everything hurts but my ear lobes !!!
It charted as a # 12 hit on the billboard charts in April 1969. Robert Spencer who did the lead vocals was a former member of The Cadillacs and definitely the reason for it's huge success.
Gawd, it makes me feel like I'm in grade school again, but in a GOOD way, all innocent and filled with wonder and funs! I loved this song as a kid and it still gives me the warm-fuzzies. Bonus points for the best minimalist guitar solo since Cinnamon Girl!
Absolutely loved this song when I was very young. One of the very few 45's I had before I started collecting albums. This is one of the very first songs I searched for when I first joined CZcams.
Made for AM radio play although FM was starting to pick up steam at this time . I heard this on a new FM station in Indianapolis , IN called WNAP 93.1 in 1968 !
The drums and bass are just nutz in this song...love it! Takes me back to listening to KILT-AM 610 in Houston...late 1968, early 1969....i was 10 yrs old and crazy about drums.
Im 40. This is a little before my time but man what a great song! You sure dont get great music like this nowadays. Love watching the people dancing looks like so much fun.
You're right, you don't get music like this nowadays - more's the pity. I'll be 68 in a couple of weeks time and consider myself blessed to have been around in the 60s when all the best music was being made.
Use to have hundreds of Albums and 45's but had to sell all of them, along with my turntable. Use to have this one. Thank God i can find most of the fab grooves here on CZcams.
I was born and raised 1960 on the east side of Detroit Michigan. The 1960 with the greatest times of my life when I am gold on the radio station cklw in the motor City with your DJ host rockin Robin Seymour. My cousin she used to go to Canada and dance after school on his swinging time program in Canada.
Hey man,I was about 18 yrs old when this song came out, it was and still is a KILLER!! song and whats sad is that me and my buddies and girl friends all knew it was all coming to an end as we were headed into the 70's oh man what a sorry day that was going to be,one minute after midnight and now its 1970 we were all bumed out man, stuff just wasnt going to be the same anymore. well, love ya all man,Ron
I was 22 years old when this song came out Man what a song makes you feel real good back then and hearing it now I feel great I wish I could go back to those days
Same time frame for me! Although I was definitely getting away from pop and into the psychedelic, electronic, and alternative music, as offered by the late, late night FM radio stations, WDAS in particular, in Philly. And of course some great folk and country folk around that time, too. Ahh, what am I saying; I liked all of it. Music was and is a big part of what made me happy. Oh man, time to start digging through my old vinyl again. I just have to resurrect my old turntable, soon as I find it!
OMG - I remember dancing to this song in my white go-go boots and miniskirt!! You were nobody if you didn't have those boots that "were made for walkin'" - lol.
Awesome! I was looking for some older songs & I saw this & went OMG...I haven't heard this in ages and the video was great too....thanks for posting this :-)
Yes, exactly I cannot remember the last time I heard this song on the radio but it was a long long time ago ☺️. So glad this was posted, I never even knew what they looked like either.
I've loved that song since I first heard it. I love the turntable in the video. It's the same make Technics as I have and the model looks different. They make great turntable including the DJ model Technics SL 1200 Mark 2 first out in 1979.
A local cover band (The Mockingbyrds) I went to see in Sycamore IL, played this song, I kind of forgot about it until last night, good music, reminds people of a simpler time and for me, it's what my folks listened to when I was a kid. Love it!
