"What if he has a sword instead if a gun like a normal metroidvania"
The hollow knight community is typing!
LOL!
I wasn't typing but I sure was thinking that
I feel like its more common for the character to have a gun which makes hollow knight more special.

Personal favourite Goodgis game on itch! Crab is the hardest boss ever lol
Thanks so much, Buddy! :D
@@Goodgis :)
the 2nd phase always kills me
Nice devlog! I feel like these are my main source of inspiration at this point lol.
Awesome! Thank you! :D
I really love the style of your games! Your such an inspiration, once again great video
Thanks so much! :D
You are a awesome game dev!
You are inspirational for a young game dev like me! :)
That's awesome! :D
Found your channel from the video you did with Mashup, watched through a couple videos and damnnn this channel is incredible! Awesome work, and for this video it’s very inspiring for someone starting out with game design and for looking into game jams
Thanks so much! :D
Even though I’m not into game dev much anymore (code just never clicked with me), I still enjoy watching these videos.
Thanks so much!
Man survivorman was one of my favorite shows growing up!!!
Heck yeah!
Thanks for the great content! Would love to see some tutorial series from you, I just discovered your devlogs and I think you would excel at them! Especially for Godot, there’s not quite as much out there
Great suggestion! Thanks!
Great video. It's definitely a great idea to get distracted every so often. Some people even say you should follow the fun in game development.
I agree!
This is the second time I've watched this in the first 3 hours of it being out
Ayyyee!
man I love your videos, you just made my day with this video! :D
Glad you enjoyed!! :D
noice! love the quality of your videos every time
would love to join one of your game jams someday
Thanks so much!
I’ve learned through years of project jumping, finishing a game only requires 1 important rule. That rule is sticking it out through the massive parts of the development process that feel like work, which always come sooner than expected. Only then can you reap the rewards of a finished game, and be happy.
With that being said, I really want to play your dino survival game! :D
:D thanks!
@@Goodgis Hah hah! *Do it now I'm in your home.*
Internet humor sure is something, isn't it?
epic. I enjoy these videos. And rewatching them feels nice. I realized that I need to comment more often
Thanks, dude! :D
This was very cool! Liked the art style and the boss the most.
Thanks! :D
cute game with great music :D always love when you put out new vids, keep them coming :)
Thanks so much! :D
This dude is the definition of UNDERRATED!!! He's so good explaining stuffs and he's so chiiiiiiillllllll
Thanks so much! :D
This game would definitely sell well if you made it longer no doubt about it.
:D Thanks!
@@Goodgis Only problem is the controls on windows, I constantly try to jump and end up dashing into enemies. Tip for future games, add eye frames on dash.
Thank you for this not "fully perfect" game jam video, more about learning from failures than making the best game at first try :)
Glad I could help!
Wow just discovered your channel, you are the internet historian of us gamedevs! really fantastic stuff, I like your creative ideas and you are totally right, best learning experiences are the games we never finish!
Thanks so much! :D
That Windows bug is so strange. I wonder if it's a compilation thing somehow? That boss fight looks like a lot of fun!
Super weird, but I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Hi sir!
I have a small idea for a mechanic in Dewdrop dynasty, it's about adding temporary wings that you get in the scene to continue, simply you fight a winged enemy, get his wings and try to go as fast as possible to pass a big gap or a narrow tunnel with a lot of spikes, and the time for it is short but enough to pass or continue the level,
hope you liked it
That could be awesome!
Great video dude. Love the crab
Thanks dude! The crab is crazy haha
0:48 where can I find this?
I would like to know as well
Same here, pleeeaaase!
Me too
I couldnt find that exact one but i have used one pretty similar called "Game Idea Generator Let's Make a Game"
firith.studio/game-idea-generator
You have to make this a full game! It looks so awesome
No haha, this was just for the jam.
I like how you edit the videos and present the info (except for the loud meme noises that are... too loud)
:)
Thanks! haha
1:34 brackeys should be considered a bible for game developers
LOL
You've made me want to start making videos of my game development
You should! :D
Nice one, I'm currently doing a jam but I spend 4 of the 6 days on art, I think I might have severely overscoped for the Jam, especially with the art style but at least I'm learning so I guess that's what really matters.
Heck yeah!
Love your videos man, i have been trying to finish my own game for a while and i keep going back inforth about it. I watch videos like these hoping that they will help me get off my ass and get something done, but it always feels like i take one step forward and three steps back. But i digress, let me ask you the one questions that i have the most problems with. When you are designing your map, do you follow the keep everything on one layout approach or do you have them jumping from layout to layout for the different biomes? I have heard many different positions on this just wondering your thoughts. Great work on all your stuff so far thanks for sharing it all with us. all the best.
Thanks so much!
First video i watched and i loved your voice lol its so clear
Thanks so much! :D
""Hands are creepy""
indeed
That outro music is so good..
@@Goodgis Is there a full version of that song?
The majoras mask reference was awesome! 😂😂
;)
Whoa whoa how did you make the trees away like that at 3:18 :o
Just with a sine wave. :D
Terrific words, tks
Thanks so much!
I absolutely love the main character design. It reminds me of Paper Mario.
Thanks so much! :D I love Paper Mario so that's a huge compliment.
Another great Video!
I appreciate that! :D
nice editing bro but i must know, what mic do you use? Mine broke and i need a new mic for my videos.
Thanks! It's the Audio Technica at2020!
You should really flesh this out into a big game.
Dewdrop ;)
Awesome!!
Thanks!
Fun game. I found the secret Easter egg where you can clip through the walls.
Nice! haha
this is awesome. want more XD.

@@Goodgis looks super fun though
that crab looks like a tomato 🍅😂😂😂 cool video , keep up!👐
It does! haha
great video as always. One question though, in a lot of your devlogs you show level design using a numbered grid, it looks like each block represents a room or screen, what software is that? i'm designing a metroidvania and am having trouble with layout and that looks like it would help a ton. 😁
I used Adobe Illustrator. :D
Looks good
Thanks!
Hey goodgis! Do you use construct 2 or 3? If you use construct 2, why do you choose a older version?
Doesn’t he use godot?
I believe he uses couple engines, in the scope creep video he used construct 2 and godot or gamemaker
I've used both and I liked Construct 2 better because it actually supports Multiplayer plugins and is a 1 time fee. :D
Don’t mind me. Just binging goodgis videos.
:D
Mr.Crabs lookin kinda THICK
XD
very cool !
Thanks!
Great video. What's the game toward the end where you are fighting the dinosaur? Btw I love your pixel art.
It's a project I've been working on.
@Goodgis pls release king of burgers even thought its not finish it looks so goood!!
;)
"what if it has a sword instead of a gun, like your typical metroidvania".... you do know what the "Vania" part of metroidvania refers to right?
Joking aside though, great video. I've been wanting to make a metroidvania for ages but they just seem so big and daunting, so this is very inspirational.
Haha, you definitely should!
Yeah, I know what the "Vania" part refers to!
*It means you are about to have a bad time.*
*This joke is dumb.*
Very cool man
Thanks! :D
This video was really good! But also, what is King Of Burgers? :D
The best game ever ;)
@@Goodgis :)
How did you do the Wind Waker-esque stuff in Unity3D? With the water shaders and whatnot? I'm looking to replicate that aesthetic as well.
Shaders! Though I can't help you with Unity because I never use it any more.
Bro that duck game needs to be an mmo
That could be sweet!
You should do a construct 3 tutorial about your very nice play controller/animater
:D
Another vid lets go
:D
I know this is a fairly old video but what is that website thing you are on in the beginning give themes and mechanics?
firith.studio/game-idea-generator
I plan to make a game later this year is to start making my dream game but I lost confidence every day but something amazing happened yesterday my crush volunteered to help me with developing and I was heavily inspired that day, and I think I will start developing next week 'cause my mother is using my laptop:')
Go for it! I believe in you!
@@Goodgis Thank you!
The protagonist reminds me of the pirate sword duck from the wario game for the GB
Haha I love it!

What game is the one at 6:00? Looks really unique and interesting!
It's a little mini project I was working on.
i would love to make a car combat game in the spirit of twisted metal and vigilante 8
Nice!
1:53 Hmmm nice modeling...
I mean those arms are looking kinda *_T H I C C_*
XD
Is it possible to know how is is called the program you show giving random genre and themes at the start (if it is a program)?
firith.studio/game-idea-generator
What program do you use to create levels ?
I mean just rough prototypes of levels
My own editor. :D
i think guns and melee weapons are just as typical as eachother in metroid vanias, some even give you both like the MMZ games (whether those classify is up for debate, just the example i can think of from the top of my head)
I guess I just normally think of guns in those games but I guess you are right!
Hi Goodgis, great video. I was wondering if you could make a video on how you do level design in Photoshop.
Ohh, that would be interesting. Honesty, I don't recommend level design in Photoshop. It's better to sketch on paper.
@@Goodgis Oh! I mention it as that's what I thought you were doing at 4:27.
That cool game
:D
Pog! Nice one
Thanks!
Thanks!
Woah woah! Who gave you permission to leak the demo of silksong?
LOL
i just started programming my first ever game, i hope scope creep doesnt get me
haha you'll be fine
the blue enemy that you see at first kinda looks like an npc btw
so watch out for stuff like that later maybe
Maybe they are and you're character is just mean haha
@@Goodgis yeah maybe xD
maybe the enemies were just chillin' xD
What is the name of the software you used to design the layout of your individual scenes and put them together? i.e at 5:01?
I made that software myself. :D
@@Goodgis oh dayumn that's super awesome and impressive! Are you selling it? What's the software called? Tell me more XD
What are your recommendations for starting out on game dev
Hey Goodgis,
So, as I was watching the video, I really like the art style of the game *King of Burgers*. And I just wanted to know if the game's out or is it still in development. And if it's still in development, please do tell me when it is probably going to come out because I made fan art for it and I wanted to mention the game.
-Artefic
Sadly, it's not but maybe in the future. :D
@@Goodgis :0 I'll look out for it because I really like the art style!
what do you use for your level design'
Hey what software do you use for screen recording your games?
OBS all the way
It would take me 2 months to just make this video, let alone that Metroidvania.
oh yeah right
ok this might be a bit of scope creep
but maybe add a level editor in dewdrop dynasty for players to make levels and you might use it like if you made it easier to make levels in that the normal tiles and stuff in godot
I already tried that and it was cool and all but I ended up wasting a ton of time haha
@@Goodgis nice okay
@@Goodgis i just remembered it might also still save time if it was done good enough maybe but yeah idk
it would just be like a cool thing most of all that would make us be able to make levels and post them
and idk i personally like level editors in game i think xD
this is so cool
Thanks!
@@Goodgis OMG
Really good game, but on web build if you die from the boss, it won't let you access it again.
Weird, thanks for letting me know!
3:40 he straight up cursordancing pixel art

what's the pixel art program that you use?

And here am I, got so stuck at making slopes for my platformer that I stopped game dev entirely for... Phew... At least half a year now?
Nooooo!
Wait what was the software he used to make the tiles?
Adobe Illustrator
It's always a challenge to play your games when you use the Z key because my keyboard layout is qwertz and not qwerty.
Ohhhh yeah
uh oh, a 'side project'
hehe
What was the game generator I saw in the video
firith.studio/game-idea-generator
What's the name/artist of the track that starts at 4:19?
That's a great question, I can't remember. I'll have to start linking the songs I use in the future.
Do you mind if I were to create an actual game with this? I'd have to learn stuff but eventually I could get it done
Are you saying taking my game and finishing it? Why not make your own?
@@Goodgis I guess you're right. I should try to think of my own ideas. It's so hard though, especially seeing as most things I think of have already been done.
But it's more like being inspired by it with like with the ''everyone's a bird thing", and floating islands
0:50 bruh that's Redline
LOL
