  • well getting closer to a rebuilt kobalt 80 volts 2 ah battery. what a rush right now. as a beginner, dummy and old diy man i just love it. sorry for padding my back. i really didn't think i could really do this project. who knows i'm probably doing this all wrong. i'm using 0.15mm x 8mm wide pure nickel strips. i'm also using my new toy a sunkko 737g+ spot welder. please be aware i'm doing this at my own risk. So remember if you try this it will be at YOUR OWN RISK TOO.

    Hello,
How can I charge the kobalt 80V battery without the factory charger ? I want to charge it on the bike if this is possible. Thanks !

well get a bench charger if you dont want to use the factory chager. i really dont like the factory chargers. i rather use bench charger so i can charge the cells slowly to make the cells last longer without overheating them which can lead to damaging the cells in the battery pack. of course this is my stupid opinion.

Where did you source replacement batteries? What was the cost? I'm about to do the same thing to a dead Kobalt 80v battery. :)

Hello sir fortunately for me I purchase some dead batteries and harvest the cells. Now I haven't figure the cost to harvest cells for this project. I'm more concerned about my ability to do such a task with 1 half ass hand and the other for show. I also had most of the equipment to harvest dead batteries. I look for the lower priced dead batteries on ebay or garage sales. I took apart 10 batteries and I have enjoy harvested cell to create or rebuild 8 batteries. I think my average cost for dead batteries was roughly $20.00 including shipping for each battery I purchased. Each battery had anywhere from 1 to 6 bad cells so I get a pretty good yield in harvesting. I hope I answered you questions.

hello sir you just need to look for dead batteries online on ebay, craigslist or garage sales. cost from $20-$30 each. i do also advertise that i will buy dead lithuim-ion batteries. i also sell dead lithuim-ion batteries. i have roughly 60 or more kobalt 80v batteries for harvesting. each one has about 2 to 6 bad cells out of 20. i torn apart 10 batteries and out of 200 cells i pulled 170 cells. i ran on capacity charger tester and 20 cells are not usable due to resistance and capacity. so good useable was 150 cells and i made 1 like new kobalt 80 volt 2.0ah battery and i have enough to rebuild 6 more batteries. i could sell as rebuilts for $100.00 or more with a 1 year guarantee. is it worth it in labor time? no but im having fun teaching my bad hands and keeping my mind busy. because i proved to my mind that i can do it! thats worth a million dollar to me

@@grandpaworks8632 Sounds like a great hobby keeping active! I just tore my 80v Kobalt battery apart and each cell showed everything from a slightly negative number to 2 volts. I put the 2 volt one on my XTAR charger, but it wouldn't even see the battery. I ordered a 20 pack of cells from aliexpress just to get this battery back up. Hope those INR cells are legit ;)

@@MrWotok in my opinion xstar is not a good charger to use for 18650 lithuim ion cells. i use zanflare c4 for capacity/charging and miboxer to charge them. good luck and yes i wish i could have started long ago. i'm already 1 foot in the grave and my body is telling to stop. i see youngster wasting there time doing nothing by text or play games instead of learning. in your opinion do you think i should include spot welding and soldering in these video? i really don't think i need to because there's so many other videos showing those topics. take care.

@@grandpaworks8632 If spot welding is part of your process, show it off! You never know if someone will pick up something they didn't know before :)
