Xaver Varnus' first piano teacher was Emma Németh, one of the last pupils of Debussy. He has played virtually every important organ in the world, including those in Bach's Thomaskirche in Leipzig (2014), Berliner Dom (2013), Notre-Dame (1981), Saint-Sulpice (2006) and Saint-Eustache (1996) in Paris, National Shrine in Washington, D.C. (1985), and Canterbury Cathedral (2004), as well as the largest existing instrument in the world, the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia (1985). His Quadruple Platinum Disc winning album "From Ravel to Vangelis" (SONY, 2007), is the best-selling organ CD ever. As a Canadian citizen, Xaver Varnus resides in Berlin, and in Brooklyn, Nova Scotia Peninsula, where he opened Varnus Hall in a 19th century church. "Put simply, Varnus is a monster talent, every bit as stimulating and individual as the late Glenn Gould" (The Globe & Mail, Canada's National Newspaper). "He is one of the most influential figure in organ music in the early twenty-first century." (Mark Wigmore, The New Classical FM, Canada).

Extraordinary organist! Truly exceptional!
By transporting us to the mountain top where one can savor the refined flavor of Xaver, this exquisitely varnished performance is Varnus ad Parnassum.
One of the striking facets of his genius and giftedness is the discipline of when to touch.
Precisely!
The mind of a man who can do this? I can barely eat my toast. Thank you, maestro!
As someone once said, He plays so you can hear each separate note, not like someone renting the organ by the minute. I have never heard this played with such compassion before. It takes your soul carries it up and sets it down so gently.
It is played with true passion.. so amazing Xaver!
Esatto!!!
Kedves Xavér. Had kivánjak tisztelettel még sok-sok😍 boldog szülinapot születésnapod alkamából.
As I get older, I like the musical experience conveyed by the organ more and more. Another outstanding performance from Xaver...
I also agree 👍, he plays with passion and dedication. BRAVO
AMEN!!!!! I also seem to gravitate to classical organ performances more and more as I get older!!!
Thank you so much for posting this magnificent organ concert played by Xaver Varnus who is now a household name in my family. I am so happy to hear this remarkable concert on You Tube because I was truly saddened to miss this once in a lifetime event in nearby Ottawa.
The bottom end lows are such a feeling entering the marrow in my bones. Thank you again Xaver.
This is one of the recordings, which will be rewatched centuries after this day. Marvellous. Unbelievable. Fantastic.
The improvization brought me to near tears in recalling my youth listening to the organ at Stanford University Memorial Church in the 1940s and 50s with my father. We had a two-rank Moller pipe organ in our home but it was mostly out of order in my childhood.
The only time that I was able to watch an organist close up at the Memorial Chapel was when I sang a solo at my Father's funeral in 1993.
Very interesting the idea of the double pedal in some points of Bach's BWV 533! It seems to give a more virtuosistic and brilliant character to an apparently modest composition! Varnus is of course very good in his métier! Congratulations from Brazil!
❤Der Maestro ist am Werke! Ich habe es wieder einmal genossen. Danke XAVER❣ 😘👍👏👏👏BRAVOURÖS..

So,so beautiful, it touched my soul with beauty.Thank you for the gift.
Truly brilliant play, spoiled only by the audience making noises in the background throughout another masterpiece.
SUBLIME !
Tremendas, fantasticas y espectaculares esas melodías interpretadas por ese gran maestro, transportan al mismo paraíso celestial,se queda uno sin palabras.Dios lo bendiga maestro.😅😅😅
Bravo Maestro! Genius Art Work. Thank You with all my heart.
Ez olyan hihetetlenül szép!❤
Well played!👏
His 1st piece, "Adagio in G Minor", by Tomasso Albinoni, is my all-time favorite ❤❤❤
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
🙏🙏🙏
I wish I could see him play inperson.
Xaver dziękuję Bogu ,że jesteś. Pozdrawiam Irena Polska

And Anxious.
Colosal.
Skipping the hard bars on the Widor Toccata finale?
What;s with e cheating on the last portion of the Widor?
And the tempo is too fast... 😢 A bit anxious
He cut part of the Widor out !?!?
I've been skipping the last page of this piece since I was a child, because I find the last page to be very badly composed music. I also don't have a good opinion of Widor as a composer in general, because compared to the genius of Cesar Franck/Charles Tournemire, he was very mediocre. This toccata is based on three beats just like Ravel's Bolero, of which its composer was not very proud. But while Ravel's Bolero has great merit for its use of the symphonic orchestra, Widor's Toccata is just following the old and boring path of French symphonic organ use. Jean Guillou once told me that when he graduated from the Coservatoire, he was so bored with the tradition of 'French symphonic organ playing' that he thought he would either follow a completely different path or give up the organ and become a writer. He described Widor to me in a radio interview as the most mediocre French organ composer, who wrote a few fashionable character pieces but never reached the level of the truly great composers. Please read Tournemire's memoirs and you will probably get a more nuanced picture of this period.
@@xavervarnus ...Maestro, curious then, why did you choose any part of this piece?
Regardless, it is wonderful to see your movements on the keyboards and the pedals. I have enjoyed the organ since childhood (12) but know little of the nuances that determine one piece or another in organising a concert.
Have you played at Vancouver's Christchurch Cathedral, especially since substantial upgrades.
Humble greetings.
Charles H Tupper
Wow, you're almost as good as Virgil Fox!!!
pylosopy.
Bravo maestro !
Punctural.

Where is the pedal organ on this instrument? It's inaudible or muddy in so many passages and consequently the music really suffers? Too bad.
Ya. Moving a mic even a foot changes the recording.
According to the microphone settings in the afternoon, the organ sounded very nice on the recordings, but in Notre-Dame in Ottawa the acoustics were strangely altered by the 2,000 people who turned up in the evening, and this was unpredictable for this church, because it had never had such a large crowd at an organ concert before, so there was no experience of recording.
@@xavervarnus Your playing is simply brilliant and I was so sorry not to hear your virtuoso pedal playing. Thank you for your gracious reply.
@@xavervarnus People soak up a lot of sound, no joke, I’ve experienced it on many occasions, especially if they are wearing heavy outerwear.
