  • Only somewhat camouflaged ahead of its release in the third-quarter (July-August-September) of 2024, the Skoda Elroq battery electric SUV is the first of six new electric Skodas to be introduced by the end of 2026.
Following its unveiling, the Elroq is likely to go on sale in Europe; although not yet confirmed, come in Australia around 12 months later after Skoda Australia's CEO advised Drive the company hopes to cut the period between European debuts and its local on-sale.
Following the Enyaq - appearing in stores in July 2024 - the Elroq will lead six more new electric Skodas set to be displayed by 2026 including the smaller, Mazda CX-3-sized Epiq and a Toyota Kluger-sized seven-seat family SUV.
The Elroq is a small SUV the car maker defines as the "electric alternative to the Skoda Karoq," following Skoda tradition of model names beginning with the letter "E". Although only available with a petrol-engine, the current Karoq is a cost-conscious small-to- medium SUV with substantial interior capacity starting from $40,000 before on-road charges in Australia.
Using the same dedicated-electric MEB underpinnings as the Enyaq electric SUV shared with other electric cars produced by parent firm Volkswagen such the Cupra Born and Volkswagen ID, the Elroq replaces the Karoq electrically.
Although the Elroq's cost is not yet known, the Europe launch will feature three rear-wheel drive, single motor models revealed with rising tiers of power as well as a dual-motor all-wheel-drive flagship.
The entry-level rear-wheel-drive Elroq "50" runs a 125kW motor and a 55kWh lithium-ion battery pack; the "60" runs 150kW and a 63kWh battery; before the "85," it brings 210kW and an 82kWh battery.Using an 82kWh battery, the range-topping '85x adds a second electric motor - one on each axle - for 220kW also in what should be the performance-oriented RS variant.
Skoda has confirmed the "85" and "85x" models are capable of "more than 560km" (WLTP) between recharges; it has not yet revealed the electric driving range of the Elroq line-up.
Standard across the range, fast-charging 175kW DC (Direct Current) capability allows 10-80 per cent battery top-ups in 28 minutes.
