    OH MY GOD! That was amazing. The look was spot-on. I kind of cringe when I see 1920s makeup tutorials because they're not very historically accurate. And Colleen looks like she literally stepped out of the 1920s. She's absolutely stunning

    It’s interesting to hear about the actual colors used (particularly in the clothing) because it makes me think about the film “Singin’ in the Rain”. I had always thought the film featured exaggerated, “modernized” spins on the fashion of the 20’s; yet being released in 1952 suggests much of the production crew would have had clear memories of the styles and textiles (and dyes) of the time. (Yes, Cyd Cherisse’s costume silhouettes were too form-fitting for general fashion of the era, but I believe that was the vaudeville dancer influence.)
    What jumped out at me was your discussing the “acid greens” and other vibrant colors. Made me think of the “dream scene” in the film.

This is NOT an era I can pull off but I have always loved the smart and sassy appearance of this 20's shingle bob. Those, like Colleen, who can pull it off make all of the rest of us jealous. We all have an era/look that best fits us as was mentioned. Plus, we always want what we can't have...still I would love to try and see how I look. Or get tips from Colleen how she does her hair.

She is lucky to have the perfect hair for a bob (and a good hairstylist, I assume!) as well as the perfect face for 20s makeup and figure for 20s clothing, lol. Consider trying out a wig just to see how you look in a bob- I've had one for years that I've worn many times and it's lots of fun to change around your look. You mentioned briefly that makeup was worn very subtly in the Victorian era. Can you describe what that looked like what what they would do? This video was so informative and wonderful to watch as well!

    • @MyVintageLove
      @MyVintageLove  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you! I"m so glad you enjoyed it! The makeup in the Victorian era would heave been limited to ladies wearing a bit of powder and maybe a tiiiiny bit of rouge for special occasions. There was lots of skincare back then to get a clear, glowing complexion, and I have heard about very wealthy ladies also doing something called "enameling", but I don't know as much about that.

    This was such a great video. Are you planning on doing videos on makeup looks from the 40's and 50's?
    I am extremely fair, and if I was looking for a blue based red lipstick (that emulates a vintage red) that wasn't drying and was relatively easy to find in Australia would you have any recommendations?

    • @MyVintageLove
      @MyVintageLove  Před 3 lety +2

      Thank you! Yes we are shooting the 50s video soon and the 40s video after that.

      How you take care of your skin before putting on makeup makes so much difference, you should gently exfoliate your face and let a good moisturiser sink in before powdering. Laura Mercier does an amazing face powder, Hope this helps 😊

    Both you ladies are beautiful. Surely this was a makeup look for younger woman. What did older ladies to during the 20’s for special occasions that didn’t accentuate wrinkled mature skin? Can you link to Dr Coleens you tube channel, please?

    • @MyVintageLove
      @MyVintageLove  Před rokem +1

      Thank you! I think makeup would still have been considered taboo by older women in the 20's and they would have worn little, if any. I believe that during the 20s older women would have worn just lipstick and a bit of powder for special occasions. the flapper look shown here would have been for younger women.

    • @MyVintageLove
      @MyVintageLove  Před 3 lety +1

      I believe they were available in the 1920's, although certain forms of powder eyeshadow (crushed malacite, etc) would have been used in Ancient Egypt.

      @@daphne4983 There are definitely ads and books and magazines showing powder eyeshadow in the 30s. I'm sure with a deep enough dive I could find some for the 20s as well. They just weren't being worn as much in the 20s.

      @@daphne4983 There is a book that I reference in my 30s tutorial called simply "Makeup" by Virginia Vincent that was written in the 30s and has been reprinted. She references using powder eyeshadow in every step by step in the book. If you google "Maybelline Advertisements 1930s" quite a few ads showing eye makeup, including powder shadow should come up. If there's any way you can find some 30s women's magazines there are references to eyeshadow in some of the makeup step by steps they had back then. Hope that helps.
