    Shoei GT Air Two:
    The new Shoei GT-Air 2 helmet is the long anticipated successor to the very successful original GT-AIR. The GT Air II is a sports touring helmet. Meaning it is an all-round full face helmet that has the comfort of a touring helmet. It has the looks of a sports helmet. Where the Shoei X-Spirit 3 is a real race helmet and the Shoei Neotec 2 is a real touring helmet, the GT-Air 2 kind of sits in between those two. It does both the jobs very well, but if you are looking for a full face to fly around the track with, the Shoei X-Spirit 3 is probably a better choice. And if you are regularly taking weekend trips on your touring bike, the Neotec 2 might be the better choice. The GT Air 2 will perfectly cover you for everything in between. The original GT-Air was one of the best fullface sport touring helmet, so it was quite a task to improve this. But we at Champion Helmets believe that Shoei has done a great job in making several improvements to this stable and comfortable helmet.
    Shoei N XR:
    The Shoei NRX is a comfortable sporty full-face helmet and it is the successor of the XR1100 Model.
    Thanks to the special earpads in the Lining, the NXR is much more quiet than its competitors. This helmet has a compact outer shell with a slim aerodynamic shape. The advantage of a smaller outer shell is that you feel less pressure on the neck with small sizes. This drives more comfortable and enables you to be more concentrated. As a result of the compact outer shell The NXR is also lighter than its competitors: AGV Corsa, HJC Rpha11 and Shark Race-r Pro. The aerodynamic shape enables the NXR to cut through the wind easily. Characteristic for the NXR is the E.Q.R.S. safety system. This E.Q.R.S. safety system makes it possible to quickly remove the inner lining if necessary. Of course the NXR comes prepared for a communication system. The NXR comes with everything that a helmet needs, where simplicity is of the highest refinement.

    IMO, Shoei really screwed up the GT Air II by designing it around the sub-par Sena system. Trying to put any other comm system on the helmet results in a very less-than-desirable result. I’ve seen a couple folks mount a Cardo Packtalk Bold on it, but the unit was located in a very awkward spot. Shoei should revise the shell and make the bottom rim like the original version so the end-user can put whatever system they want on it. I would have purchased a GT Air II in a heartbeat if that were the case. I’ve heard the same complaints from many others as well as the displeasure with the ratchet strap. I have to imagine these two things have cost Shoei a great deal of sales. I currently have a RF-1200, with the Transitions shield, it’s just about the perfect helmet..... but it is a little loud. I’m waiting for a “corrected” GT Air III. Come on Shoei..... :)

      You're definitely not alone in your opinion of the GT Air 2 on both the micro ratchet chin strap and the SRL 2. We've been keeping our fingers crossed as well, but considering the newly released J-Cruise 2 was released with only SRL 2 compatibility we'll have to see what Shoei'll do. Thanks for the comment!
      Aside from noise, would you improve anything else on the NXR / RF-1200?

    • @XXX526
      @XXX526 Před 4 lety +1

      Champion Helmets No, other than the wind noise level, the RF1200/NXR is a fantastic helmet! The noise level might not be that much of a factor if you ride behind a big windscreen, I’m on a Street Triple and FZ1. The Transitions shield is worth its money, I do some long, multi-day touring and not having to carry an extra shield or sunglasses is a big deal. Maybe if enough Vendors complain to Shoei, they’ll revise the GT Air?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 4 lety

      Great to hear! Let's hope so, Shoei have definitely shown they know how to make a great helmet so we'll have to see what they'll choose to do next time around

    I know this video is several months old. But by any chance can you guys please do a comparison of the Shoei GT Air 2 and Shoei RYD (RF-SR in the US).

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 3 lety +1

      Unfortunately, we don't currently stock the RYD, so we are unable to test it. Though the RYD does excellent for safety with a 5 star SHARP rating and is seen as a fairly quiet helmet, we'd still expect the GT Air 2 to come out the quieter based on its very strong road test result (alhough this would require testing to make sure).

      @johnDukemaster Před 3 lety +1

      @@Championhelmets Well I think the GTair is more touring and the NXR more streetfighter-ish. So I probably go for the latter. I have a RYD now and I must say I'm very pleased with that. Very! Or do you have another suggestion for me? Another helmet like the RYD that I don't (yet) know of? Cheers!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 3 lety

      Great to hear you're enjoying your RYD! Though both the NXR and the GT Air 2 have quite sporty designs, the GT Air 2 is definitely closer to the touring end of the spectrum. That being said, the NXR would be the most direct step up from the RYD, not least because they share the CWR-1 visor.
      For alternatives, if you're already leaning more towards the general sport-touring market with the NXR, then the main competitor would be the AGV K6, both helmets showed a strong performance on our road test while also coming with a focus on safety. Though the NXR may have a slight advantage here since it earned 4/5 stars from SHARP.

      @Championhelmets  Před 4 lety +2

      The other 2 best options would be either the HJC RPHA 70 (which also was incredibly quiet at 97dB) or the AGV K6, which was slightly louder. You can also see how these helmets all compare here: czcams.com/video/oQtOhG7XP-s/video.html

    hi. What does Shoei need to improve to get 5 stars in the visor section?

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 4 lety +2

      While the Shoei visor system gives the it a great seal, considering the helmet's price and competition we had to be tough on the details, the main thing being the system can be a little fragile at times. Other than this, the visor is excellent and comes with all the features we'd expect for this price segment. However, Shoei helmets have earned 5 stars for the visor, like the Shoei X-Spirit 3, and this was thanks to the numerous additional features that came with the visor. Thanks for the question!

    • @Championhelmets
      @Championhelmets  Před 4 lety +1

      Though Sena have recently released their new Sena 50 series, the best option would be to go for either the Cardo Packtalk Slim or the Packtalk Bold. Though if you're coming off of an older Sena system, it's a good idea to also check if it's part of the 50 series trade up program. Nonetheless, Cardo will give you a great level of quality, waterproofing, and are meant to fit in almost any helmet. Thanks for the comment!

    Guys, I wanna order a helmet from you, but when I've tried both of them in a local shop here ,I experienced that Shoei NXR fits to my head better than the GT-Air2?! ...So considering my headshape it seems the NXR fits perferct. But I wonder which other brands and models would also fit to me I want to learn other alternatives. I've tried many helmets from AGV, HCJ, MT, Scorpion etc. but none of them worked for me. Could someone tell me if they use NXR, which other helmet models do also fit to their head? It seems it's the only way I can learn my other alternatives. Thanks!

      If you are a true racer the X spirit will be the best choice. If you are a more versatile rider (now and then doing a trip, commuter, etc) the gt air 2 will be the better choice. The internal sunvisor really does add a value. Unless you take an x spirit 3 with a pbotochromic visor, then the x spirit is better choice overall. (but more costly)

      Unfortunately, we have not been able to get our hands on the RF-1400 yet since we are based in Europe. Nonetheless, if an NXR update is released in Europe then we certainly plan to test it. For now, the GT Air 2 vs the NXR is the closest we can get, though we expect the RF-1400 to show a stronger performance.

      Depends on you and your bike. I wanted to buy a GT-Air II and finally kept my NXR after a road test. It was definitely the quieter helmet and I am very picky about noise. I just bought a photochromic shield to compensate the absence of the tinted visor.

      @MaxFromSydney1 Před 4 lety

      Thanks for people’s replies. But it’s a nightmare that people have different perceptions of which of these helmets is quieter. A quiet helmet is important for me on highways and motorways. I own the Shoei NXR and Hornet X2 helmets. I ride a V-strom 650 with a Givi Airflow screen and I find the X2 incredibly noisy with the peak on compared to the NXR. Note that I always use custom moulded ear plugs when riding. I’m inclined to get the GT-Air 2 for my next helmet in a couple of years.

    • @oneblackdogrides
      @oneblackdogrides Před 3 lety

      @@MaxFromSydney1 I hear you about the Hornet X2 - I found that the peak vibrates in any turbulence and this makes the whole helmet boom - I found this out by holding the peak between my thumb and forefinger - it was magic! My (partial) solution was to reinforce the underside of the peak with fencing wire and glue and now, with a new windscreen on the KLR, it's tolerable. Just. But it fits my head perfectly and the lower portion of the helmet is brilliant at keeping out the road and mechanical noise.
