  • In this video I detail the steps to remove the 6-speed manual transmission from a Nissan 370Z. This DIY is also applicable to G37/350Z/G35, though some steps may vary. This video does not include the process to install a new clutch/flywheel/csc. These topics will be covered in a future video.

      @ZeroFX32 Před rokem +2

      @@ThatRedNismo if you have the tools, time and place, it's easy. Just takes time. This was my first time as well, and Robert Carizon explained everything to perfection. What took me most of the time was to put the transmission back in, my mistake was buying the Harbor Freight transmission jack (like a small table, scissor jack non hydraulic). That one was not adjustable, only up and down. Get one like what he uses in this video. Otherwise it's easier to be strong, bear hug the transmission and align it like Rambo would without tools. That was the only frustrating part and was because of not having a good transmision jack.

    I'll give you guys a tip with removing the knob. Get duck tape and cut a long piece out and loop it so it essentially becomes double-sided duck tape. Now wrap it around the knob, grab on to it and the hold will grip to both your skin and the knob and spin right off.
    You can do this with pretty much ANYTHING. I've never really ever had to use wrenches etc for stuff like this, plumbing, all sorts of pipe work because this works a treat as long as the surface is dry.
    Best part is... No damage!

      Did you get it out(a month later lol). Was everything in alignment to take strain off any given binding point? The more level and in line everything is...maybe even the slightest upwards force lifting transmission(level/don't let it sag). All those alignment pins and the input shaft/pressure plate...lot of places it could bind up.

    • @thecarizon504
      @thecarizon504  Před 4 lety +1

      I put the jack stands right behind the pinch welds, where the markings are for the scissor jacks. Jacked the car up from the sides initially, then when it was high enough, moved in from the front/rear with the larger floor jack. Used the differential for the rear jack point, and a piece of frame behind the engine for a front. Pretty much any solid piece of frame will do.
      Just make sure you get it high in the air to clear the bell housing, best of luck!

    Is there any trick to reinstalling the transmission back into place? I tried wrestling mine for hours yesterday and got absolutely nothing realigned properly. I opened the hole in the clutch fork area but the shaft never wanted to slide all the way in.

    • @thecarizon504
      @thecarizon504  Před měsícem +1

      It is a pain in the ass, there really isn't much of a trick per say. Try to visually get it lined up as best you can, and then I grabbed it from the rear (using the support bars for the shift linkage) and started shaking it around to get it to slide in place.
      The transmission has to be lined up close to perfecy, the shift linkage support frame should be nearly touching the top of the transmission tunnel.
      Try rotating the spline a bit too in case it's not in sync with the engine in terms of the teeth meshing.
      Other than that, just check that there's nothing obstructing your way.

      I thought the same, and i just successfully did this without removing the shift knob. The re-install was a pain and it would be a lot easier to get to the 3 bolts attached to the plate below and the 4 bolts holding the shiter in place without the rubber boot being in the way. Invest in a swivel socket set.

    Just watched this guy booger his shift knob like that, it’s not that hard I’ve been a tech for years @140lbs you can twist them off. There’s no factory loctite or anything just grab and twist.
