- Notion databases become even more powerful when you link them together. Link to a row from another database with a relation, or show a specific property from a related table with a rollup.
A quick note: While the concepts outlined in this video are still useful, references to some buttons and clicks may be a bit outdated! Relations were redesigned in May 2022, so your experience may differ slightly from what’s pictured and described here. - Věda a technologie
This is the most clear and straightfoward video explaining what rollup and relation is about! Great work!👏👏👏
I was looking after so many templates to figure this out and here this video is explaining it under five minutes. Thank you so much!
Incredibly clear, concise & helpful. Thank you!
Thank you so much! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for, the tutorial is perfect and super clear!
Really clear and easy to follow tutorial. Thank you!
thank you for clarifuing how roolup works
The voice over of Notion and Webflow tutorials are so damn good
idk sounds too cheerful to me
Agree
This will help me tons to organize my school notes! thanks!
This is an amazing feature!
Great! Loving Notion! Thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Really helped me!!
What Notion calls database in a Relational Database world it's called a table and tables make up a database. It's other way around in Notion.
So helpful! Thanks ❤
I used a Rollup to show the Status of a task instead.
Notion sometimes puts two tasks on the same row if their names are short, which makes it difficult to see which Status belongs to which task.
Can I make them line up somehow?
This is pure gold
Very nice, thank you!!
Any ideas how to create a roll up from one database page in a private workspace to another database page in a teamspace?
I was looking for video content of Using relation & rollup properties of the same db. I think was introduced past Nov 2020.
Hi! Thanks for this! I would like to ask, I have a client database and a 'sold program database' and I would like to list the Actives programs that the client have purchased. With the rollup, I can list the sold program for the client but I would like to show only the ones that shows 'active' in the other column... Is it possible? Its like having a filter on the rollup! Thanks!
Kudos! Very well written and edited! I wish these Notion videos identified the brains and talent behind each video - would save me a lot of time.
But how can I filter the Tasks relation in my Project database to only show a task list with to do. Now I have a huge list with all done tasks as well. There is option in filtering for it.
What about slookup? Can Notion do that? I have a database with names and email for course subscriptions and another database with person details (e.g. shipping address). Can I automatically search for email in the person database and get some additional infos in the course subscription database? I do this in Google Sheets now. Can Notion do that, too?
I have two databases that are connected through a relation but they are not syncing at all. For example my cities and countries, the cities are not automatically populating the country database even when I select the correct country in the related field... and therefore the rollup for the capital is not working either.. any ideas why?
Thanks for the guide. Can you please explain what sprint 20, 21, 22 mean?
Sprints are a project management tool to keep teams on track and accountable for their work. A sprint is typically a 2 week period in which a team sets tasks/goals. At the end of the sprint the team will typically present the deliverables from said sprint.
Can I use diffrent tasks database for each project and link a property for diffrent projects to there tasks database ?
Is there any way to sum the days of the task that are only P1? I have a Categories database with expenses linked. I have rolled up the sum of the expenses, but I only want to see them monthly
Will you allow rollups of rollups? I am trying to create a Tag hierarchy, but the number of levels I can use is greatly limited.
TL;DR
Use a [Formula] property to reference to the data from your first [Rollup] property
Access through your second [Rollup] property the [Formula] property above
= Hereby you indirectly access the first [Rollup] property data
I just checked you can't but you can do something else, you can add a [Formula] property to the database containing the first [Rollup] and let it refence the [Rollup] property by typing in
prop("enter the name of your [Rollup] property here...")... and than later go to any database contaning a [Relation] to the one database that contains the [Rollup] and add a [Rollup] there (or any other database that has a [Relation] property connecting to that [Rollup] property containing database), than set up the [Rollup] to use the [Relation] from your database and the property [Formula] from the database containing the first [Rollup]. And hereby you get access to the information contained within the first [Rollup] by accessing that [Formula] property that is contained within the same database as the first [Rollup]
I hope that wasn't too confusing.
thank you💙
🙋🏻♀️ We can't rearrange/drag & drop the tasks on table 1, right?
Where I can get this template?
Why is the option "Configure rollup" not showing in my notion!?
Basically I can't use it now...
What if the existing relation fields in the configuration are all empty? I can't choose any source database.
When trying to create a Rollup? You may not have created a bi-directional relation, first.
In newer Notion version, when you create the relation database choose to 'show on {other database}'. Then when you create a rollup you can select the other database you've related to it.
Is there a way to link multiple databases, I basically want to use only the rollup function as I have multiple tables with details of budgets, e.g. "Home" includes: Rent, Water, Electric, Netflix and "Bike" includes: fuel, insurance, services, parts. I have a table that stores these pages as expense types in column one, and I want column two, "Amount" to reference the sum of the table in the title
Did anyone figure out to do this? I'm also trying to link one property to multiple databases
create one table "budget", which contains columns: Type (Home/Bike), Tags (Rent, Water, Electric, Netflix, fuel, insurance, services, parts), Amount, Date. At the bottom of the original budget table, calculate the amount column by sum. Then create a "linked view of database" called "Budget by Types", which groups by type; or create a linked view of database for each type and filter by the type.
Who knows how to export the name of the rollup instead of the link?
(I made a rollup of a property which is a relation to third database)
Good explanation
well come
Great
how to use relation between gallery and table
Mainly look around properties. Try around the simple method of this table to table shown on the video and try to get a grip of how if functions, try even 3 or 4 tables, after you get that, it's the same thing with E.g. a galery, because its got the same properties available as a table. It's just shown in a different view just like a list, a board or a timeline, you get the idea.
Why dont you add formulaes to rollups?
Is there a Nobile Prize for technology? If so, your company needs to win it. This app is a masterpiece. I BEG you -- PLEASE DON'T SELL OUT to Meta, Microsoft, Elan Musk, Jeff Bozo or some other black hole. They will destroy it!
very annoying this only works one way. there is no solution if I want to combine multiple databases into one. I have a tasks database for each individual project. there is no way I can collect all tasks into one database by retrieving all tasks databases for each project.
you could possibly create a python code for that
✅w
First
Great tutorial, but the voiceover is almost unbearable. I had to watch it on mute.
Sometimes notion gets too complicated
Love this app, but the voiceover cadence... Uhh. These pauses and lilts were foisted on our culture though advertising. Nobody used to speak like this. I want the information, but don't coddle me along the way with microtonal inflections of support and reassurance. Might work for some, but not me. Less is more.
bacoot
Wow. That was a shockingly detailed and precise analysis of her commentary 😮
Couldn't have said it better.
Tbh I find "CZcamsr Voice" more annoying than this narration.
I mean, well explained Notion, but dear good this voice is a veeery annoying one
