HI SIMON, 8 WEEKS IS PERFECT. PERSONALLY I DON'T LIKE THE SYSTEM,BUT YOU HAVE TO GO ON IT TO COMPETE. IF I STARTED UP ON MY OWN I WOULD PUT ABOUT A DOZEN ON THE DARKNESS, THE REST OF THE YOUNG BIRDS WOULD BE BROUGHT UP TOTALLY NATURAL, THEY WOULD BE THE ONES FOR THE FUTURE.

It will Steve. If you want to compete. You need them in the dark. If you breed early you won’t need to darken them but you have to start training them earlier

@@simonkennedy5567 i have a team of 25 young birds that fly well around the loft they range and have done for the past 2 months, they are all different ages , the earliest in Jan and the latest March. They will fly for about an hour every morning and every evening , the older ones are already heavy face malting and im worried that the younger ones were bread too late to keep them on the natural system ? thanks for the quick reply

Yes. Doug. I darken them once the second round go in. I normally have only one round. But I bred some early for a friend. And I kept 6 from the first round. They were bred early in January when naturally dark
