The advantages of GFRG panel house are Eco-friendly : GRG as a GEP (Green Environmental Protection) material has no odor, and its Radioactive Nuclide Limit is accord with A-style decoration material standard of GB6566-2001, which can be used for recycling. It is earthquake resistant and can resist up to earthquake of 8.0 richter scale. Fire proof : GRG material is an A-Class fireproof material. When meets fire, it can not only prevent burning, but also release 15%~20% moistures of its own weight, which can largely reduce the surface temperature and fire damage. Brething effect : GRG board is a special material consisting of mini-hole structure. In nature environment, multi-hole can absorb or release moistures. When it’s high temperature and low humidity indoor, the board will gradually release moistures from mini-hole; when it’s low temperature and high humidity, it will absorb moistures from the air. Such RELEASE and ABSORB forms the “Breathing” effect. This kind of circulation appears the effect of indoor humidity adjustment, creating a comfortable “microclimate” of working and living conditions. It does not need plastering, water resistant, the temperature inside the building is 4 degree celsius less that a conventional brick building and finally it life is up to 80 - 100 years. But, the conventional building last on a average for 50 years. Also, Its saves cement by 50 %, water and sand by 75 %, steel by 35 %, labour cost by 60 %, time it takes is only 3 to 4 weeks, building weight is 60 % less when compared to brick house and overall it costs 30 - 50 % less than conventional brick building.
The challenges are : More space needed for crane movement, Complicated design will make it less economical, Skilled labours needed, GFRG panels should be handled with care while transportation and erection, Need specific machinery for cutting GFRG panels at site, Erection and placing of GFRG panels are a bit difficult.
This building technology is approved legally by the government of India (Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India) and IIT madras also have done lot of research for 10 years from 2004 to 2014 and supported it through its research.
And plan well in advance to construct your house and accordingly save your money and save your environment.

No bro we should not leave any panel left hollow... we have to fill concrete, or cement sand inside all the sections....

GFRG is not good for home construction.
In Jan 2018, to construct my dream home.. I searched for green building idea. Like all of us, I landed for gfrg. To know more abt this tech, I visited FRBL, Kochi, IIT, Tirupati and many other building in Kerala.
After I got convinced, I started my construction work with a builder from Chennai.
After basement work, builder gave a list of requirements like cost of crane charges, structure to hold panels at site, chemicals for wall panel joint fixing and waterproofing..
Only then, I realised that grfg is bogus. It doesn't work in India.
Pros
Only benefit of gfrg is it is reusable material from fertilizer industry..
Cons
1. Panel is available only from FRBL as big wall panels. Repair work is impossible.
2. For installing panel, you need big cranes and lifting jack.. it is not cheap and easily available.
3. It uses alot of chemicals in joints, which destroys the idea of green building.
4. The cost of construction is same as any brick builder..
I wasted my money and time.
Plz avoid this tech. It is only suitable for construction of cardboard houses constructed by government for poor people.
Moreover,
1. GRFG panel is manufactured using glass fibers ( plz note, this is not a recycled material... It is purchsed by FRBL from market for making panels ) and White Cement ( plz note, it is pure cement).
They mix it with 30-40% of Gypsum to make big wall panels. The wall panel is cut as per given specification.. It is neither eco-friendly nor cheap.
2. GFRG panel got cavity. This is a technique to trap air molecules to retain body heat transfer. It is the important factor to reduce U-value ( solar radiation ) value of the panel. The real problem is you need to keep this cavity empty to reach maximum U-value but, empty cavity means poor structural strength so, builders suggest you to fill the cavity with filler material. Mostly, it is gravel, mud or cement.. maybe, a combination of it. This will increase the building construction cost and destroys the purpose of U-value.
3. Have you seen the GRFG lifting crane ? It is huge. Do you think it can be easily moved in indian streets for the purpose of construction ?
Our streets or roads are not made to move such big cranes. It is possible in USA or Australia but, definitely, it is impossible in India.
NOTE :
In current scenario, the green building, in India, is to construct house with clay brick but, try to replace
1. cement with red soil
2. iron rods with bamboo
Processed Bamboo is much stronger than iron rods
Red soil gives strong bonding than cement..

Nobody know about life of building. Only after 40 to 50 years we will know for sure. Many big buildings were constructed 200 years before using bricks and still standing. This GRF boards are used in other countries only for internal walls.

Fitting of doors and windows plaster with cement, if you want save money you can use the technology but there are more disadvantages
Panel to panel have gaps. All intersections need to waterproof. Waterproofing will fail over time and must be repaired.
