Bilge keels and Hull Preparation, Kingfisher 30 Refit E01

  • This week I will show the first steps on my Kingfisher 30 refit. First the preparation of the bilge keels, the skeg, the rudder and the hull.
    After a good sanding I applied some Hempel one pot primer before I painted it all below the water line with Hempel's Cruising Performer antifoul.

    FYI you cannot do that kind of work on tidelands or within 200' of the water in the US. At the very least you should put down a tarp to capture the grindings. We all want to take care of our shore. Glad you are getting out on the water though!

    Seems to me that sandblasting and then immediately coating with epoxy would be your best bet.

      That is exactly what I should have done in this case, for it is what I have already done in a similar situation.

    I'm considering buying one of these but was concedrned about the huge weight in the keels. How does it sail? Is it slow? Does it go upwind ok?
