Bought my first Canik a month ago. The Rival! Entered a Steel Challenge match and placed 2nd in Carry Optics. I absolutely love this gun and can't wait to shoot it in my next USPSA match.
Congrats!
I just bought myself a rival. My first pistol, I'm not exactly sure what pulled me towards canik but heard good things
Never knew that about the point system for a sub compact. Always wondered why they didn’t have a micro sized. They would kill it. Makes sense.
I've been carrying a DA since this past summer and I love it. Great gun, not the easiest to conceal especially for a smaller guy like me but I prefer that 18-round magazine and double-action trigger to a smaller carry gun-sized magazine, plus i learned to shoot on heavier semi-autos so small guns feel a little too light for me.
Thank you for your time and effort to put together this excellent Canik lineup presentation 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 It's appreciated. One thing I like to say is, any of the Canik models can be carried concealed. I rotate my carry handguns, and I have carried the SFT, and even the Rival Darkside, inside my waistband at 3 O'clock. It is not impossible to do, neither uncomfortable.
Men are nowadays seeking maximum comfort and opt to carry small 3" barrel light micro guns. Not me. I carry for maximum practical effectiveness of the weapon. Thus, my preferred barrel length is a minimum of 4", the 4.5" hits the sweet spot, and 5" is the best for obvious reasons, including better accuracy and bullet expansion reliability.
You sir are spot on.
My wife and I love the Canik handguns. Excellent video.
I was one of the ones who asked you about turning your article into a video! This is great! Thanks so much for making this!
Great breakdown , I have a mete sft, a sfx and a combat executive. the Combat executive is my favorite by far. I mounted a Holosun 508T and a disruptive defense compensator on it. won my first amateur competition with it fresh out the box awesome gun !
Hey, I just had a quick concern as I just recently purchased my first Canik (METE SFT) and was wondering if your compensator is for a threaded barrel or if it was on the rail? I want to purchase one but the colors available specifically for METE SFT aren’t the ones I want. Do you know if the railing is identical on all of them? Thank you!
As always you do a great job of presenting the information. I have two new generation kennex and they're both great my favorite guns at the range
Just bought my first Canik. Went with the TP9DA. I couldn't pass up the double/single action feature. Thanks for the video. It's a nice history of the evolution of the brand.
And the TP9 DA is a great gun, practically a clone of the Walther P99AS
@@GBGuns I had heard the TP9DA was a clone of the Walther P99AS, which I've never seen nor handled. My personal fun fact regarding the TP9DA: Even if I never fire a round of ammo, I can practice dry firing at the squirrels in my back yard all day long without ever racking the slide 😁
Love my TP9DA! It carries and conceals well.
You're right on the mark when it comes to the feature differences between certain models to qualify as hypothetically distinct generations. I'd also point out that:
-Gen 1 also includes TP9 SA, the TP9 V2, and TP9 SF.**
-Gen 2 also includes TP9 SA Mod.2,** the TP9 SF Mod.2, and TP9 SFX Mod.2.
**You had reviewed these 2 guns years ago, but perhaps you no longer have them.
The Mod.2 versions of the SF and SFX are sold overseas but weren't brought to the US. It's been six and five years respectively since the Mod.1 versions of the SF and SFX were brought over and it's time they're discontinued in favor of the Mod.2 versions which have ambidextrous side releases (Perhaps they can also put out a TP40 SF and the TP40 SFX chambered in .40 S&W while at it, which many have requested).
The TP9 DA is smaller than the SA and SF, so I would organize them as:
-Compact size: TP9 DA, TP9 V2, TP9 SF Elite, and TP9 Elite Combat.
-Duty/Full size: TP9 SA, TP9 SF, TP9 SFT, and Mete SFT.
-Competition: TP9 SFX, TP9 SFL, Mete SFX, and SFX Rival.
Also subcompact in the elite SC for sizes
picked up the mete sft black for $400. first 2a purchase.
Nice price. Congrats
Another very well done video Graham. You are a smooth talker, and that is a rare skill. Makes your videos easier to watch and listen to. Good job.
Thank you
the elite combat is my favorite canik, atleast out of the 4 i have. it is a real good shooting gun. i am by no means an expert shooter but at ten yards, i can put all my shots in the ten ring on a b27 target. minus the occasional flyer. awesome info as always.
Just picked up my first gun today - a Canik METE SFx Pro. During my three range day evaluations I shot 17 different guns, firing 50 rounds through each (850 rounds total). The Rival (the only Canik gun either range had available) impressed me the most, though a couple of all-metal guns were close behind. I really liked the Rival, but I decided to go for the longest barrel I could get in the same family. That meant the SFx Pro earned my money.
Also got 1090 rounds total of five different kinds of ammo (three for range and two for defense) for it as the local Scheels had a sale. I'll be breaking it in at the range tomorrow and maybe another time during the week to see what it likes and doesn't like for ammo, and then using it during my permit to carry class next weekend. Whee!
UPDATE: Fired 345 rounds through the gun today. That's 100 rounds of Fiocchi 115gr brass FMJ, 100 rounds of CCI Blazer 115gr brass FMJ, 100 rounds of PMC Bronze 124gr brass FMJ, 20 rounds of Federal Personal Defense Punch 124gr brass JHP, and 25 rounds of Hornady Critical Defense 115gr brass JHP. Had five malfunctions (failure to feed and failure to eject), all in the first box I fired (CCI Blazer), including the last round of the box. After that it was smooth sailing with no malfunctions, including the second box of CCI Blazer.
The gun shot extremely accurately except when I got tired near the end of the session. I thoroughly tested both magazines that came with the gun and was disappointed in the larger-capacity one - it only ever allowed 19 rounds to be loaded instead of 20. Have to wait for the next range session to see if the extra 20-round mag I bought has the same issue.
PSA:
Canik retension Holsters alao fit
Smith &Weason (9mm, .45, 10mm)
SAR 9
Nice comparison. The new Mete SF is the compact “Glock 19” sized.
I"m hoping to see something like the Elite SC in 30 Super Carry from Canik soon. I don't know how that point system works, but I think it would be a great move for the company. Especially if they can get into smaller sub-compacts in that chamber size.
I cc a sig 365. Wanted a full size for the house. Was set on a sig320 until I heard about a few firing issues. Stumbled across Canik and couldn’t find a bad word about em. Picked up a Mete SFX. Best pistol I’ve ever shot. Butter smooth and accurate. Even while being in no fun NY
Thanks! That was very helpful.
Thank you for posting this in-depth video! We know this stuff ain't easy, but you pulled it off - some us us (me) are visual learners LoL! It was great seeing you at NRAAM this weekend!
Thank you!
Excellent video.. good camera work to see the tight spaces. Thanks!
Thank you and welcome to GBGuns!
Greatings from Turkey 🤗🤗🤗 Thank you for your Awesome and informatime review 👏👏👏
TYVM for lesson! You saved me a lot of time.
I am very impressed with you video. All the information you provided and the way you have done this should be the standard. I want to provide such a service to my community. I'd like to pattern myself as you have done here, well-done sir. BTW, I am just getting into Canik line of pistols, I have not been disappointed. Elite sc is my most recent purchase.
The guide was great but I'm really glad you made the video.
Thank you for your breakdown!
There's more in the link
Loving my TP9DA...!! I hope they can port those same features to something more like the TP9 Elite SC
Same regret selling mine
Wow!! Great video! Very informative content!
Thank you. There's a bit more detail in the article.
so I've been reading more and more into canik, and I think I'm going to pull the trigger on a mete sft! hope I love it, only been finding good things. hoping to make it my first optic pistol!
My tp9sf handled great like it so much l picked up the elite SC will take it out soon keep you updated on that too
SF Elite and Combat Elite 💪 tip: remove the mag funnel for big hands
I have 2 Caniks...the TP9SA mod 2 and the Rival Darkside... love them...both shoot great... exceptional triggers... thinking about getting the TP9SFX in the mete to complete my lineup
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
Got the tp9sf just recently hopefully can take it out soon to see how well it operates keep you posted
Update:took the tp9sf out liked it so much picked up the tp9 elite SC which will a better fit for my small girlie hands can't wait to take out the elite SC soon
Caniks, at this point , you can’t say anything about them except that they run. Completely and utterly reliable 9mm pistols that are at least as good as any other comparable brands(glock, S&W, Springfield, etc)
that dark side is dope .
Great and informative presentation of the Canik product line. Wouldn't expect anything less from GB Guns.🎩🎱🎯🏁♠♦♣♥🌼🏵🌸💙💛🌻🔱🇺🇸🍀
Thank you for years of support!
@@GBGuns youre very welcome
METE is the only one you need
I wasn't happy with my Sig M18. I got a Mete SFX and could not be happier! I went from not really knowing where the shot was going to be with the M18, to a 3-inch pattern and 50 feet with the Mete SFX. It feels like it is a much higher quality gun, for $200 less. The trigger is SO much better!
I need to spend another $300 on a trigger kit for the M18 to make it usable.
Very good video indeed.
Thank you. The article has been updated as other models have come out that we've also reviewed.
I like the one everyone hates w the little decocker button so I feel ok sleeping w it under my pillow (or in my hand down my pajama pants)
Yeah I'm like you may have to look into that TP9 DA for the decocker...
The TP9 DA is actually an extraordinary handgun with unique features. Very accurate too. Unfortunately overlooked by many people that have the revolver mentality, all they want to deal with is pulling the trigger 😁
@@kurtbailey8960 TP9 SA Mod.2 has a decocker as well. TP9 DA is also the second-smallest gun after the Elite SC, and the third is the SF Elite.
I have the SC and a gen 2 SA
This was very useful, thank you!
Thank you. there have been updates to the article, but unfortunately we can't update a video. See pinned comment for more.
@@GBGuns thank you, I saw it. The Rival Steel Frame as well as the Mete Pro are there...great!
Great video Graham! Can you share where you got the TiN barrel for the Rival?
Mete sfx 🔥
I’m looking at the SC Elite
My first was the tp9sf then went to the tp9sft mete and the elite SC still have all three my wife likes the sf and I like elite SC best the sft mete is great too not parting with them all shoot really good
Thanks for sharing.
Even with the help of this video it is still a bit confusing. So many models, so much info. It's a lot of keep track of in my little noggin'!
I tried to break them down by application and generation.
@@GBGuns You did great. It’s just a lot of information for me to keep up with.
You could specify what type of gun you want, and then others could recommend what models fall within the range.
i got the tp9 V2 da/sa when they first came out, but i think they were discontinued. i think the only difference between it and the tp9 da is that the decocker button goes all the way across the top to both sides
I just ordered the METE SF, which for some reason, Canik doesn't seem to be advertising.
Would love to see you document the differences in the trigger pre-travel, pull weight, and reset. I notice you don't do this on the majority of your reviews, and its always something I and others use as a comparison between various pistols. The Elite Combats are significantly better/different than the standard Elites (of gen 2) or Gen1 guns, and the Rival is significantly better/different than the Mete series.
I don't because, aside from a 12+lb trigger it doesn't matter to me.
Is there a retention holster made for or that fits the tp9 elite
I'll take that black and gold rival ❤😂
I've got my eyes on the TP9SF METE. Basically the same as the TP9SF Elite but it's optics ready, has 1x18 and 1x15 round magazine, and the iron sights vary. Great video BTW.
We've got reviews of the MET SF in the works.
@@GBGuns Epic! I can't wait to see it!!!!
would love for Canik to put out micro compact pistols or glock 43x size pistols i think Canik is a great option
I like the TP9DA system, only thing keeping it from being perfect all around for me is it not being fully ambidextrous.
I conceal and carry my Mete SFT
On the newest generation ones you don't lose your rear sight when you add a red dot also.
You do lose co witness on Rival gold accent version
@@scottstinger6548 Not losing your rear sight to add optics on the Mete series is worth mentioning, however.
Well what happened to the tp9sa mod 2 that's what I have and it's an excellent gun..
I have a question my favorite gun is Canik Sfx rival is what 4 inch(ish) barrel would be most like the rival to be used for concealed carry?
some say that meat but you say mete correctly, good for you.
Would the sf slide work on elite frame ? 🤔
Excellent video, and very helpful! I'm thinking of getting my first Canik soon to replace or supplement my Glock 19x as my EDC. Between the TP9DA and the TP9 Elite Combat, which would you say makes for a better all-around EDC gun?
Make sure to see the article (pinned comment) as that's where a lot of the real information is. I'd suggest looking into the METE SF
@@GBGuns Thanks a bunch, friend! ☺️
When this notification popped up, I was hoping for a table top review of the Walther WMP.
Sorry, we don't have our hands on one yet.
My only complaint is all they come in is 9mm. I think it would be a great 45 or 40 or 10mm
I think Canik pistols are some of the most underated guns out there. Unfortunately, Canik/Century can't get any quantitiy of mags to come into the U.S.
They've been trickling in. Should be fixed by the end of the year.
I saw a TP9 ELITE SC at $469 & was considering as a first gun for home defense. I'm still between an APX, M&P 2.0 or a METE.
There is a video on CZcams called " why not a glock" by a police firearms instructor, where he talks in detail about why not to get a striker fire without a safety. Anyway all the guns you are between work and work well, depends on how they feel in hand.
I wouldn't go SC for first gun and home defense. My suggestion is get the Mete (Pro) for your first gun, home defense, and range fun. You won't regret it and thanks me later 😆🔫. GL
What generation would you rate the TP9 SF METE
I used to own a Canik TP9SF Elite..............awesome gun. Damn, I regret trading it in.
well now you gotta tell us what you traded for it
@@jjgriffin3275 CZ P07
Ahh,believe it is the "AFT" sir,but thanks for the info😁
SFT.
@@v.german11b No it is not, government is to be black or white here in the USA.Life is grey, stop being fooled,we can no longer afford it.
Amazing video. Out of ALL of the models.. which canik would you say has the absolute best trigger? Also, ive been tied between the Combat Elite Executive, Mete SFX Pro, and SFX Rival. Which one would you recommend as far as highest quality internals/updates over the generations?
The METEine is the most recent. They're all good triggers, either identical or so close to it that it doesn't matter
@@GBGuns What are your thoughts on the Mete SFX Pro vs SFX Rival with the upgraded threaded barrel as you demonstrated in the video? They are pretty much exactly the same but im unsure on which one would be the best setup for competition.
@@BKDawg I think they're likely equal, haven't handled a PRO yet
Got that tp9sf elite and haven’t had a chance to put any rounds through it yet. Also mags are hard to come by for these beauties. Any suggestions on mags from anyone is much appreciated.
Turkey got hit with the same manufacturing COVID bs the US did. Mags will come back
Might have to give Canik another chance
Which model was your previous experience?
@@GBGuns I had the SF model couple years ago. Main reason why I traded it in was due to lack of mags, holster choices, etc. This was really before Canik blew up as they are known for now
@@GBGuns online was always out of 15rd mags and LGS only carried 10rd for awhile
I wish I were not a poor I would love to have me a Canik Mete sft to replace my Canik TP9sf but only because it is optic ready and has the forward serrations and flared magwell option
Have you shot the mete sft pro, I haven't seen much on it
No, not yet.
Hey I have a question ❔ I just bot the cabin elite combat tp9 I noticed that the slide radles over the polyurethane handle is that normle
Yes
What about the decocker that was on early Caniks?
Only on the DA model
@@GBGuns The original Canik-55 TP9, the Canik TP9-SA, and Canik TP9-V2 also had decockers. I believe you reviewed the TP9-SA Mod.2 on this channel.
I would call the gen 1 the tp9sa and the tp9v2
Then the sf elite and sfx. Then the DA and sa mod 2
Then I’d go with the elite combat/executive and elite sub compact. Then on to the mete line and then rival.
That’s leaving out quite a few too. The original TP9. Then they had the tp9sfl (long slide but not sfx), the sft(not mete but threaded barrel). I’m sure I’m missing one or two
I went with generational changes rather than US release dates.
How is the rival recoil compared to a Glock 17
Much better. Smoother impulse distributed through better ergonomics.
Is it possible to put the longer slide (METE) on the standard SF Elite? For a shorter grip, long slide version? If so that would be cool if Canik offerd uppers as an option rather then buying a whole new gun
Not possible.
The Elite Combat (15 round compact grip) the Mete series, and the Rival can all interchange slides and grips. I have done so and fired many rounds out of all combinations of those 3 specifically. The sub compact cannot interchange with the 3 mentioned above. I have not tested with the non-Combat Elites yet.
@@gjk50002 the METE series and the SFX Rival models have changed the design of the rear of the slide, making it different than the TP9 series, thus not fitting correctly.
@@gjk50002 I thought so...the frames seem identical. Thanks👍
@@v.german11b They work perfect and without any issues between the 3 specific models I listed. Have not tested beyond those 3 specific models.
The elites are more first gen than the sfx theyre older than the sfx
this was quite informative but This is funny….it’s like Canik need their own channel/TV deal, equivalent of the realignment of footballs college power houses.
Thank you, the article was a bit better organized, but folks wanted it in video so here it is!
The main Canik's I'm interested in are the CZ75 clones.
Great price and decent quality!
Can't wait for the next drop, snatching any P I can find.
@@stoegerstewie8351 it doesn't look like Tristar is importing them anymore.
Hopefully someone picks them up again. Need to replace my T-120.
@@showtime2629 It's less so TriStar and more so Canik shifting their focus to producing the polymer models because they were popular, so the _Canik 55_ hammer-fired guns stopped coming in right before the pandemic.
If they paid attention to it in terms of marketing and design like they have the _TP9_ and its successors, they could make a fortune and eat into CZ's marketshare. A few of my recommendations:
-Get rid of the oversized "safety warning read manual" disclaimers from the slide and/or frame. Bring back the classic _Canik 55_ logo.
-Standardize the model names. Many have two names such as the C100 (Dolphin), T100/120 (Shark C/FC), P100/P120 (Piranha C/FC), but others don't such as the Stingray C, Stingray F, and SFC-100 (smaller than Shark FC, slightly larger than Shark C). Bring the latter names in line with the former, and release all models.
@@showtime2629 you are right, seems dropped off their website. Hopefully, century gets into that line.
What barrel is in that rival? I’ve contacted Canik and they said they don’t have one for the rival yet. Is that from the TP9SFX?
Yes
@@GBGuns do you have the part number for that? I’m on the Canik website and I see 2 different full size threaded barrels. PACN0029 and PACN0023 for the black ones, and PACN0027 and PACN0030 for the gold ones. I’m sorry for all the questions, I just don’t want to order the wrong one.
Sorry I don't. I bought the barrel from a vendor before the Rival was released and it was marked as for the Rival
@@GBGuns Any chance you’d sell it?
I am in the process of purchasing my very first semi auto pistol period. I'm on the fence between the Cank mete SF ,SFT or thecRiival and the Walter PDP or PDP s d pro, 4.46 " barrel. Any suggestions/recommendations?
What are your plans for the pistol? Carry? Homw Defense? Range Only?
@GBGuns Range and home defense initially. Ultimately once I become proficient and have taken some courses II want to get my carry permit. I live in a state where getting one a long drawn out process. Also. I can only have a 10 magazine . Thank you so much for getting back to me. I absolutely love your videos and find the content extremely helpful .
@@pjpep1230 Thank you. I'd look at the SF or PDP Compact 4" if you want to eventually carry. Also check the pinned comment for the full version of the Canik Guide. We also have a PDP Guide over on GBGunsDepot.com.
@@GBGuns Willl do, thank you so much.
@GBGuns So I went to the range yesterday to try out. The PDP compact
They did not have the Chanik Mete
SF available to rent. I tried the TP9 SF
Elite I also dry fired the Mete SFt. I really liked the PDP Compact. I might consider getting the 4.5 inch barrel. Unfortunately it had 2 failures to eject and the trigger had alot of play but it is a rental. I loved the Canik. Trigger was great. I am wondering is the SFt a better option even for carry? You have thoroughly tested both. Is there a noticeable difference with regard to recoil between the SF and the Sft?
swap the slides on the combat and the executive. thats how i run mine 8)
One point... SC stands for superior carry.
Excellent Vid-Explanation. Ever since I put a Canik, the SC I think (3.6"?) in my hand I wanted it. Stiff racking, but it was new,
A nearly universal rule with handguns is that the shorter the barrel is the stiffer the recoil spring has to be.
If Caniks weren't good guns, they'd still have the best presentation. $400 will buy you basically everything you need to start with. Even a cleaning kit. MEANWHILE... Kimber be like, "WE GAVE YOU A GUN WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? GREEDY!!!"
