I tend to be the one that is, for whatever reason, rushing thorugh a packed concert venue or ball game crowd. I learned to stick my hand straight out in front of me, close to my body and at waist level. This exaggerates the eye direction effect and gets you through a crowd fast. I can see people notice my hand and veer out of the way.
Some people survey their surrounding, rather than look where they go, because walking in a straight line doesn't require constant eye contact.
Well it does work. I'm not the most intimidating looking guy, but looking directly where you're heading makes the biggest groups split.

When interacting with someone, choose a specific action to do after they smile or laugh. Every time they smile or laugh, repeat that specific action. Continue doing this, and later on, you can do the specific action and it will make them smile or laugh. The trick behind it is that repeating the action associates it with a happy memory when they're smiling or laughing, so when this action is repeated, it triggers that memory. You can use this to get people to trust you quickly, and become more comfortable.

Essentially for the yawn to be contagious they have to feel some form of connection with you. "Fellow commuter" for instance. If they think very little of you (as a sociopath would) or think of you as a target (as a robber/kidnapper/murderer would) they are very unlikely to yawn.

1. I don't have to go through the awkward eye contact.
2. It looks like I'm making eye contact.
3. I'm one of those people who legit CANNOT make eye contact, I'll either laugh for NO reason, try to do a no blinking challenge with the person without their knowledge, or just keep looking at my feet on repeat.
