    12:52 I don't think you realized that the Pro-800 has selectable envelope segment shapes ranging from the original to those improved in the GliGli expansion.
    Press "PERF + 4" and you can choose between Slow Linear (default, like the original ones) to "Fast Exponential" and some others in between.
    Click "4" again to choose the same shapes for the filter envelope.

    I quite enjoyed this video, and I now own a Pro-800. One of the best purchases I have made, ever. I also have a Sequential Prophet REV2 (16-voice version), the Pro-800 is a great little device which compares well with the Sequential, and my other analog polysynths.
    You have to ask - is the Pro-800 the "best-bang-for-your-buck" in the history of synthesizers?
    I certainly think so!

  • @OscillatorCollective
    @OscillatorCollective Před rokem +1

    The Pro 600 was the only Sequential synth i could afford (circa 2005ish)...and subsequently became my favorite, and "go to synth,' even when i got a hold to Rolands, Korgs, Crumars, Moogs, Novations, Casios, Ensoniq, Kawaii and Oberhiems. It it still my favorite synth i owed ( next to my DSI EVOLVER.) And honestly, i prefer its thinner, more brittle sound to actual Prophet 5s.And of course the built in MIDI was a big plus. I think i need this Behringer. I sold my Prophet 600 a decade ago, but only because i couldn't get it repaired.

  • @mrdali67
    @mrdali67 Před rokem +2

    Agree on the display thing. They could have made it more user friendly with just a small oled display and made those hidden things easier available, but that would propably have made it 100 euro more. Can't complain for the price considdering what an original 600 / Juno 106 / Polysix goes for. the Behringer is 1about 1/5th of the avg used prise of those and 2 more voices. It sounds amazingly close to the real deal. I enjoy just to experiment with the Polysix engine of the Kronos. Albeit not completely there, the emulation is good enough for me compared to having to deal with unstable pitch and other problems with many of those old poly synths.

    🙏💚🧡👌you are right for this test, this ask question for Behringer to build their own polysynth with everything they need. For me this synth is in conflict with my Juno 6 original, and I can't find for now as at low price, the musical sound that would complete the Juno sounds, and I have a Deepmind 12 D, with when we cut the effects is a very good concept. So as you said, I would buy the 800 for the look, the memories, and, so, for now I stand to deep sounds exploration, but I prefer buying two model D two Wasp, and using their mono or duo potential, than having a polyphonic not doing original things. I would have preferred a monopoly expander, with added aftertouch ability, than this one as I mount everything in racks for modular, having already six keyboards, and making a mobile studio. However I stand on analogic, modular, would like another poly , perhaps you will explore the question about Two pro800 voices mixed then with modular filters and adds? That was the basic Idea I had considering the low price and the integration to my other settings. But listening the sounds little bit chaotic for my ears, wonder if it would be a good idea, or a loss of energy for a deceiving result.🤔😵 Behringer have some other projects more interesting I hope they will release. When you have already some poly synths, the new one must complete your sound palettes, if this is only to have a look for your studio, this is not useful. I stand some artist to showw me more musical tips on this instrument, melodies without chords and argegiator things.😏😺✨

    Thank you for this very good review.
    I am afraid I do not know what Gliglis are and surely the envelopes cannot be all that bad?
    Behringer seems to be sneared at and there seems to be a synthsnob culture around.
    It is clearly what I am after to learn on .
    But I actually do not like this term " good beginners" synth.
    There are people around that just do not have the Moog Money so have to be content ( and love) what we can afford.
    I think the pro800 is a cracking little synth ( bang for buck) and has all the knobs and buttons to make hundreds of patches.
    I am old though so old school stuff is good for me.
    I am getting one and an RD 6 drum machine.

    🍷🔊 🎹Very nice general overview and as always a very entertaining review, thanks! 🙂. According to Thomann mine is still 1 week away and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I spent so much time on the P600 that I am really curious. I do not really agree on the "limited possibility" statement, though. The only limitation in my personal view is the very characteristic, somewhat aggressive filter which makes the P600 (and the Pro-800?) quite dominant. You refer to the Jx8P frequently, but the P600 architecture has - overall - more patch types to offer (e.g. PWM), and even more than most other polys. If you keyboard track filter frequency, you can play the filter resonance harmonically, and since you can FM the filter you can have essentially a 3 VCO poly with two cross-modulations. I just hope that Behringer did this properly. Also, the P600 has an unfortunate hardware design flow in the poly-mod circuitry. I do hope that Behringer has corrected this in the Pro-800. Exciting, anyways.

    Sure this is great gear for the bucks - IF we like that sound of the old days, and if we are a Hardware Fan.
    Over the decades i had many samplers, synths etc .. and in the end i sold them all.
    Because for my workflow i like "total recall" in the DAW as i find it inefficient to maintain external gear.
    Sure analog is analog - but that was only a limitation of the old times, limit to 8 voices or less .. just a handful of waveforms.
    I dont need it though its tempting to have a (cheap) PRO-600.. but when i think it through, its nothing i need.
    Just a midi keyboard and my Mac, and all Synths are inside and i dont need convertion and complications..
    And other people may do it different.

    I just bought the Prophet 10 module. This Behringer is not a clone of the Prophet 5 or 10.... But, does it do stacks & splits? How does it differ with the Prophet 5 or 10? I am new to synths. I can still return my Prophet 10. This thing is about 1/9th the price.
    Another commenter mentioned a "Pro 16" - I googled it, it is apparently a clone of the Prophet 5. It it going to be produced?

      Behringer teased a Prophet 5 clone called Pro 16 a while ago. By now nobody saw or heard one. The Pro-800 has the same flaws as the entry level Prophet-600 back in the days. If you want to produce music now, with the best synth available for you, stick to your Prophet 10! It will also keep its value over time! Am I the only one who fails to hear this "beefy low-end"? I've watched several videos of the Pro-800 and listened to various sound examples, and they all make we want to grab a saturation plug-in and dial in even more low-end with an EQ after that, whereas part of the point of buying an analogue synth is not having to do that! Somehow the Pro-800 always sounds thin to me, almost as though there was a layer of white noise on top of everything, drowning out the harmonics. I used to really anticipate this synth for its simplicity and fully analogue polyphony at an unbeatable price, but after waiting several weeks for it to become available from Thomann with no end in sight, I'm gravitating more and more towards cancelling my order. It might be better to either get the Solina for now (which I'd love to get my hands on anyway), or put the money aside altogether and hope that I'll be able to afford a Prophet-6 in a hundred years or so. What tipped the balance even more for me was to hear that the LFO can't be synced via MIDI, so thanks for this important piece of information! This might turn out to be a deal breaker. Frankly, I already own the virtual analogue Modal Cobalt8X, and it sounds warmer and more analogue than this (at least based on the examples I've heard) if you know how to use it properly, so I fail to see what the Pro-800 could possibly add to my synth collection. My impression is that it's just not possible to get a truly amazing analogue polysynth sound at this price point, except maybe with a used Korg Minilogue XD module which only offers four voices. So after watching this review, I'm inclined to believe that unless you're hard-pressed to own a recreation of the Prophet-600, a digital polysynth like the Cobalt8 or Hydrasynth is probably the better option for a tight budget.

    One thing to learn about Behringer is that the reason why they overpromise for synths that they can't deliver right away is because...behind the scenes they're waging a price war with Chinese suppliers. Behringer has been refusing to close the deal and they keep increasing the threat of how much they're going to buy from someone else if the price doesn't go lower. Behringer keeps increasing the order sizes and then refusing all the order prices. Behringer refused to cave in for almost 3 years and they would not agree to terms of manufactures and suppliers. Behringer could have caved and raised prices on you, instead they went to war. Finally some big suppliers broke down in 2023 and Uli Behringer won. You're now seeing the spoils of that victory.
