Thanks so much Lordnkx! I love hearing that these videos are helping people out, thanks for watching!
Thanks Ted! So glad to hear these videos are what you need!
As a bassist, this lesson was very helpful and refreshing. Thank you!
Very organized, presented slowly so it's easy to understand. Good use of note and chord symbols on screen.
Thank you Mark, I really appreciate that! I'm glad this video helped you
+Mark Leininger I'll second this comment as well! As a bass player, I'm finding your lessons invaluable as I further my improvisation skills. Some of the best videos online here. Keep it up :)
Thanks Zaerdna! Love hearing this - glad these videos are what you need! Plenty more ready to upload over the next few weeks :)
Glad to hear this Ekovv! I've been putting more thought into covering the bases in an order, rather than just random videos. Glad things are falling into place!
Thanks so much Dean!! It really means a lot to me to read this & I'm so pleased these videos are what you need! There's many more in the pipeline too so make yourself at home :)
Thanks DubGnosis! Really pleased this helped :)
Thanks Elintasokas! So glad to hear these are helping you :)
I have FINALLY learnt to walk the bass, while doing different things with the right hand because of this video. Thank you!
Thanks! I always wondered what the heck the bassists are playing, now that's demystified for me!
Thanks so much Chypcar! Means a lot to hear this from you.
Part 3 is definitely coming - I just wanted to film a bit more footage for it first, as it was missing a few points. Any topics you would like me to cover in the rhythm video?
I was watching the "Palouse Jazz Project" in Boise at a club called "The Sapphire Room". They were a sextet, and around halfway through the show there was a huge boom. Turns out the bass players bridge broke!! Luckily, the pianist was a jazz Professor and was able to finish off the show while playing bass on the left hand and comping. It was so impressive, and the bass player got to just chill out and watch haha XD
Thanks so much Martin - really pleased to hear this helped!
Jazz is actually starting to make sense to me. Thanks a lot for your videos!
JULIAN, THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR GENEROSITY. AT 77, I CAN ONLY TELL YOU THAT AT THE LEVEL I PLAY, YOUR VIDEOS HAVE BEEN AN ABSOLUTE GIFT. I PLAN TO ADOPT YOU AS MY CYBER-TUTOR. THE QUALITY AND CALIBER OF YOUR INSTRUCTION IS 5-STAR, ... THANKS DEAN PEDLAR
That's a good starting point - I think throwing in a bit of chromaticism is all that's needed to make your approach sound more sophisticated
Glad I'm not the only guitar player who watches these.
I actually did set up my old keyboard after a week of watching his videos here and there. The thing must have been sitting in my closet for at least 10 years until now. I'm surprised it still works, even bought a sustain pedal for it.
That is so awesome. I wouldn't mind just playing the walking bass sounds just by themselves all day. They sound good.
BjHoneyFingers!
Thanks for the comments - love the humor! I should have said that you don't have to use a walking bassline for every chord change. You could just use it on some of the changes to create a bit more energy and life, then just go back to a sustained bass note.
I've been watching lots of "walking bass" tutorials and this seems to be the most clear and direct one I've found to get me started with an approach to this playing style. Great job.
I have found these jazz video clips invaluable references! I have been playing for many years and struggling through jazz styles, voicings, and improvisation. But since I have dedicated time to listen and practice your techniques my proficiency has increased exponentially! Thank you for sharing your gifts with the world of music!!!! GREAT STUFF!!!
Such an inspiring comment - thanks so much Daniel. I'm so happy to hear this!
Your welcome sir, and I'm honored to hear back from you! I'll stay tuned to your amazing presentations and share with other keyboard players that want to develop their craft as well!
You explained the subject clearly, thank you for this. I'll try to combine your Bossa Nova and Walking Bass patterns - at least once in a while.
This really got me to understand "walking on the bass" . . thank you! best video about this topic on the tube!
Have always wondered what that phrase, âwalking bassâ meant-thank you very much for explaining! :)
Great lessons. Thanks for taking the time to share it.
Love this! Thank you so so so much!
very clear , thank you!
AWESOME lesson! Thank you so much!
Your videos are by far the most helpful that I've experienced when it comes to jazz piano. You hit the nail on the head in every video with finding something useful to teach and teaching it exceptionally well.
Thank you man! You're a blessing.

YOU ARE THE BEST TEACHER..I EVER KNOW..EL REY
DE LOS MEJORES..LO MAXIMO..
This is great, and easy step by step on how walkings are made. Thanks!
Julian - as a beginning bass player desperately wanting to develop interesting walking bass lines, this tutorial was great. I have developed a series of licks/patterns that walk me through the complete cycle of fifths and am able to apply these licks/patterns to most jazz standards. But - here's the problem!! Using the same licks over more than one chorus becomes boring. Your tutorial has opened up a new window for me. Thanks mate!!
Really thrilled, amazing! You are truly amazing :)
wooooowww great video!! well done!!!
Thanks for your lessons dude, they are always great to watch for inspiration!
Your lessons are the best on CZcams! :D
These videos are truly great! Keep them coming and I'll keep watching :)
Thanks Paul. I know exactly what you mean, & I actually cut out a short section on practice, but I think I might post the full version after reading this. I basically said that you want the left hand to become automatic, & to focus on the right hand. The way to get the left hand to be automatic is to practice just one bass line at a time (over a ii-V-I). The theory is that if you practice anything 2000 times you'll be able to do it without thinking. I think you can get there before 2000 though!
SO PERFECTLY DONE !
clear n just awesome
Thanks brother. I want to bring jazz to my dance music production :) Thanks for the wonderful tips!!
