  • Is it THE best of this kind of video? Probably, but that's neither here nor there.

I played my favorite bass riffs for testing out a bass/a bass setting/etc...
RIFF #1 is (a not quite accurately performed) "WAITING ROOM" from the band Fugazi. Bass line written by my favorite all-time Stingray bass player JOE LALLY.
RIFF#2 is "MOUNTAIN SONG" by Jane's Addiction Bass line written by Eric Avery (who doesn't play a Stingray but whatevs.. still a bass part that I play anytime I'm making a critical bass decision in my life).

Before & After putting Flat Wounds on this affordable Stingray-style active bass.

Play the hell out of the bass with the flatwounds on it for a year, then do the comparison again. Flatwounds need a couple hundred hours on them to get to their most awesome sounding state.

      Awesome.
      That’s a cool idea.
      I will do that!
Thanks for watching and the comment/suggestion.

Might want to try the D'Addario Half Rounds. Nice in between texture - more flexible than flats, but less string noise and smoother than rounds. I think round wounds are more important in a situation with distorted guitars (or synths/etc), but flats fit in better with more organic textures.

      Thanks for that tip.
I’m excited to get these flat wounds into an amp… plus bass thru big muff with these flats is gonna rule.

    B is roundwounds.
I'll take flats on any bass every day of the week. STRING NOISE. No sir, I don't like it.
