  • This is an update on my Iron Man suit helmet with motorized faceplate. The Helmet is now entirely wireless using infrared transmitted and received by PICAXE Microcontrollers.
    The biggest challenge making your own Iron Man power suit - that you can actually wear! - is how much detail. Every expects it to look accurate in terms of colour and shaping, and if you’re going to get inside it latches, strapping and so on is a must but… what else? Do you motorise the faceplate? How much lighting and depth do you give the unibeam? What kind of flexibility and motion do the knees, knuckles and neck need? Well, hopefully you’ll agree I went all out on this Iron Man build. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

    Must say amazing work and I've found many of your videos very useful. Especially your coating the foam with PVA and then rotocast. I'll be trying that one soon as I transition over from only using fiberglass. Keep up the amazing work!

    More great work. What about some kind of circuit switch that is activated by bringing your thumb and finger together (which finger would be your choice)? That way it would be almost impossible for anyone to notice the action your making to open the helmet? This could even be extended for the palm blasters, by bring two fingers together on the opposite hand to the one you want to 'shoot' from you could again seem to be raising you arm and shoot at will without anyone noticing the action...

  • @RiggerMantis
    @RiggerMantis Před 12 lety

    He shouldn't even need a USB port. In the video where a guy updated the Nintendo Power Glove controller, it included a Bluetooth connection which he added using a small Bluetooth board wired into the board in the controller. Wiring a Bluetooth tranciever board into the PICAXE board should work, I'd think.
    Granted, I'm mostly making educated guesses here, as I don't really have working knowledge of scratch building or peacemealing electronics.

    I would personally stay away from IR and go with Bluetooth or another standard wireless system. Instead of just taking a single signal code to activate though I would use a series of codes to prevent accidental or mischievous activations. Also you can get those cheap USB bluetooth dongles that are very small and cheap.

    Can I ask, why are you not placing your controls in the finger tips?
    A magnet in the thumb and reeds in the fingertips would give you fantastic control, without accidental activation. Yes, that means there's wires from the gloves back, but consider canibalising a TF card reader, as a connector.. Opinion?

    Why not have all of the controls wired into one of the gloves/gauntlet wirelessly. Put all of the switch boards and stuff underneath the top of the hand and have the wires run up to your fingertips and have the buttons on the inside so that all you have to do is press your fingertips and everything will light up or hook it up to the chest piece with the IR transmitter/receivers facing each other............

    less of a construction problem solver. look for led pucklights, the number of bulbs varies on most designs, and often they come in sets of 3 or more, but those would make a suitable arc-reactor unless you have one in construction, but the design of em are very simple, just push the center and they light up, might have to flake off the power design on it, but still, easy enough to attach to any chest peice you have made already, and less of a soldering to be done. and 100% wireless, 3 AAA battery
