- This is an update on my Iron Man suit helmet with motorized faceplate. The Helmet is now entirely wireless using infrared transmitted and received by PICAXE Microcontrollers.
The biggest challenge making your own Iron Man power suit - that you can actually wear! - is how much detail. Every expects it to look accurate in terms of colour and shaping, and if you’re going to get inside it latches, strapping and so on is a must but… what else? Do you motorise the faceplate? How much lighting and depth do you give the unibeam? What kind of flexibility and motion do the knees, knuckles and neck need? Well, hopefully you’ll agree I went all out on this Iron Man build. Let me know what you think in the comments below.

You are a GOD! You are just one of the most amazing youtubers that electronically hack things to make them fit your needs!!! LOVE IT
Esto de la fiebre por IROMAN es excelente. Soy admirador de este personaje, sobre todo por el hecho de usar alta tecnología.
Saludos Cordiales!...
Must take alot of time, and Patience. I wish I could make something near this cool. A batman suit should be your next project! I give this A+!
Damn...... MY MIND TOTALLY BLOWN.
seriously..who would click dislike to this...its awsome...!!
Must say amazing work and I've found many of your videos very useful. Especially your coating the foam with PVA and then rotocast. I'll be trying that one soon as I transition over from only using fiberglass. Keep up the amazing work!
This would make a helluva motorcycle helmet
Can't wait for you to finish this.
you did a fantastic job making that
You could disassemble the dongle and just use the guts. TaDa! If you've set all that up you should be able to figure it out. Project is rocking hard core. I love it. But no more excuses about the bluetooth. ;-
i would put in the little springy thing on the bottom part, so that it keeps the jaw down when moving up. it would look cooler.
I usually get 200 or 250 dollars at christmas and my birthday so when it comes i will literally give you all of it for one helmet like that I am BEGGING YOU FOR ONE PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it !!
Outstanding work!
Nice one cool, Just an idea for you that you could use conductive fabric on the gloves so you touch different fingers together to do different button presses. instead of pressing buttons hidden in the suit.. regards RIchard
This looks amazing!! I'll have to re-watch your electronics tutorials once I get this far :)
OMG best Helmet!!!
He made it!!!
Amazing, maybe at the end add some more poliched look, chrome type of paint ?
Good job.
He should put a small microphone in it and use it for various things such as voice alteration or even put headphones in the ears so when people talk it's easier to hear, kinda like how some turtle beach's work!
This is very impressive, could you please do a range of motion video when you've completed the suit?
Pretty neat man. Keep up the good work
i would really love to build similar one..probably going through your articles and videos ....thanks for inspiring ...
I did. I was adding onto what you said.
Fantastic work,.
Great work man!!
Nice work!
More great work. What about some kind of circuit switch that is activated by bringing your thumb and finger together (which finger would be your choice)? That way it would be almost impossible for anyone to notice the action your making to open the helmet? This could even be extended for the palm blasters, by bring two fingers together on the opposite hand to the one you want to 'shoot' from you could again seem to be raising you arm and shoot at will without anyone noticing the action...
you sir are very clever. Hats off to you. :)
I'll never be abl to make this, soo cool doe
Spectacular work. Well done. Did you think about use voice to operate the open/close of the helmet?
Hi XRobots, i got your idea for the hinges in my helmet! Did it wireless like you did, but i use 2 xbees, instead of infrared.
Keep the ideas coming, im still not done with my suit. ;-)
wow I know what I'm gonna do this summer :D
too good this helmet I'd like one as well I
You could go with a pair of Arduino and xbee (i think you can get them in a combined small package if size is a problem).
hi i was wondering if you did a video tutorial on how to assemble the motors and some of the electronics this is really impressive and i would very much like to know how to build one just like this.
mate you are a genius :)
you can maybe look into ardruino micro controllers for usb/bluetooth and find a how to.maybe you can make it respond via voice commands (bluetooth hands free).instructables would probably have some more information
Set up a USB port right where the IR receiver is now :D The USB controllers are fairly small, so, it shouldn't be THAT hard. Just a suggestion, after all.
Amazing!!
meh, i'll just use a remote control car mechinism, but i like the table mechanism hinge thing, big help :)
Sudden urge to learn the correct signal and outfit my sonic screwdriver with it for ly 10th doctor costume rising..
very cool
you should put the toggle buttons on the wrist of the suit
He shouldn't even need a USB port. In the video where a guy updated the Nintendo Power Glove controller, it included a Bluetooth connection which he added using a small Bluetooth board wired into the board in the controller. Wiring a Bluetooth tranciever board into the PICAXE board should work, I'd think.
Granted, I'm mostly making educated guesses here, as I don't really have working knowledge of scratch building or peacemealing electronics.
That is the coolest shit ever. Instant sub
brilliant.
+LETIT ALLOUT Hey nederlander..
WTF man you are a gennie
oh....David..don't forget to click the like button..!!
Maybe you can use some springs on the feet so te flaps ho back down an dont stay up
Muy bueno, felicitaciones!!
Just a thought, for the hand repulsors, is there any way you could wire up a tiny speaker into the forearms? Activated by a switch so whenever you put your hand up like in the film to fire them, it actually makes the sound!
i would so buy that helmet
Awesome !
I would personally stay away from IR and go with Bluetooth or another standard wireless system. Instead of just taking a single signal code to activate though I would use a series of codes to prevent accidental or mischievous activations. Also you can get those cheap USB bluetooth dongles that are very small and cheap.
Love it... so amazing!!
Nice!
too good this helmet I'd like one as well I would like a suit of armor and a helmet please let the mark 7
So, what's the time period for this sort of thing, not including the trial and error of the electronics, finishes etc.? Seems like a damned fun project!
that is amazing
Genius
I saw a guy who used the kids voice changer helmet and he just attached it to a regular helmet. Although, This would be pretty awesome if you got it to meet health and safety standards!
Why don't you put that automatic opener on your arms and legs and put them on the same server
That would be neat
man, have you shared this with stan winston studios? i reckon they'd be really impressed
It seems a little too square but still awesome!
really well done great work, i dont if its just me or the pep files you used but it looks a little awkward, at the tope of the helmet
nice amaaaaaaaaaazing!!!!!
Do it in your thigh armor piece because then you can but your arms down and press the button
nice!!
have you ever considered getting it machined from aluminium, it'd look awesome!
hey man that helmet is awesome, i was just wondering what degrees or training you've done or have you just got your knowledge from book and the internet?
please please give us a tutorial on how to do this and the light eyes and the helm, please i really want my helm to turn out good! and how i fiberglass and stuff and how you make it look so shiny and good and stuff, please i beg you!
nice
Can you make this a usable motorcycle helmet that would be awesome
you could fix a layer in it so that you can escape from major hurt by the helmet.can you take the yellow part like in the climax of avengers
You should make the faceplate button below the righthand repulser and the eyes below the left hand repulser. That way you just have to clench your fists.
i would be afraid that the batteries and the wires and stuff would be damaged by sweat cuz im sure that wud be hot if u had it on for a while but i was juss wandering if sweat could posibly damage the wires batteries and etc ?
I never leave the house without a sony remote in my pocket, u sir are going to be trolled
Can I ask, why are you not placing your controls in the finger tips?
A magnet in the thumb and reeds in the fingertips would give you fantastic control, without accidental activation. Yes, that means there's wires from the gloves back, but consider canibalising a TF card reader, as a connector.. Opinion?
Rather than IR, why not try RF with something like the XBee?
Impressive. Now, how do you wear it?
Why not have all of the controls wired into one of the gloves/gauntlet wirelessly. Put all of the switch boards and stuff underneath the top of the hand and have the wires run up to your fingertips and have the buttons on the inside so that all you have to do is press your fingertips and everything will light up or hook it up to the chest piece with the IR transmitter/receivers facing each other............
I think I should. I've seen every episode of Teen Titans.
why didnt you put springs on the cheekbone to creat more of a quick close.
James, im working on a batman suit, and im using foam, and i just have a question: would a layer of carbon fiber stick to the finished plastic/foam pads, how long would it last, and would it reinforce the suit??
cool
its not proportioned to the body without armor on. I think when he puts the full suit it wont look as square since the armor is pretty big compared to the guy himself.
Hello Mr James Bruton
Your videos are very helpful but I was wondering how you cut off extra plastic because in your Roto-casting video you said that you cut off the excess but how do you do i
less of a construction problem solver. look for led pucklights, the number of bulbs varies on most designs, and often they come in sets of 3 or more, but those would make a suitable arc-reactor unless you have one in construction, but the design of em are very simple, just push the center and they light up, might have to flake off the power design on it, but still, easy enough to attach to any chest peice you have made already, and less of a soldering to be done. and 100% wireless, 3 AAA battery
Is all the armour made by using a 3d printer ? Thanks, very cool by the way :)
All of them or just one
Could you please provide me five of them for a tv show. 5 ladies are goind to perform a tv dance and we want to add an special effect like this helmet.
Any chance of putting a flashlight at the top
Hey James, u r the guy ;-) impresive this helmet!!!! got a question for you... how much it will cost to make a helmet just like that in my head shape? i live in Danmark and i can come to you... guess gonna be easy for you to shape my head and i also wanna really see the other movie stuffs that u got there ;-) hugs from Danmark made in Brazil ;-) ps: my sista in law lives in UK and often me and my wife r going to Britghton.
Im looking for roto casting resin here in Australia but Iv only found fibreglass resin
hi congratulations for the project ... you sell this helmet iron man?
Dude have a open and close hatch then that sony remote
Its so cool m'en
i would love to buy a suit off of you
everyones prop helmets are always odd, they either have the brow area too big or whatever, i guess this is cool tho.
So, after all the work, what OS do you need to install Jarvis ?? :)
