One of the bigger problems in the game is the insane power creep. Newer players don't even stand a chance unless your cookies are stacked or you have to wait for the next overpowered cookie to hopefully get you out on the level you're stuck in. 😕

In my opinion, ever since the Hollyberry to Cacao window of time, the game hasn’t been the same. It’s just a matter of grinding resources even though you have no chance to catch up to people who whale on the game. It’s just not the same anymore.
this. i loved and would play CRK daily from pumpkin pie - - > BTS but now when i go to it its just so complicated and P2W. not to mention the last ancient was cacao which was released in FEBUARY 2022.

i remember first playing cookie run kingdom and being absolutely in love with it. now, it doesnt have that same spark anymore. the only thing really keeping me playing is characters and story arcs, and that’s what originally drew me into cookie run too.

This literally is the reason I left CRK. Everything is behind a paywall. I promised myself the only way I’ll return to the game is when they introduce something new that will peak my interest, other then cookies.

i totally agree with this video. the super epic gacha has became so annoying and they don’t even allow you to get mileage points. also for beginner players and f2p’s, it’s very hard to complete missions and get the super epics currency. the old super epic gachas used to be way more simple. like you said, it’s pity. but now it’s all based on luck. also, we have gotten so many legendary COSTUMES and super epics as well as the new dragon rarity. the last time we’ve gotten an ancient was february 2022. even the decors are becoming p2w. literally, i was so upset to find out that cpasaicins cookies decor was p2w as well as his TILES.
i just hope they release golden cheese before 2024. (and hopefully crimson coral cookie will have a super epic banner like the old ones)

the missions are very f2p, what are u talking about, just play every day and do the missions. i agree about the mileage which is rly stupid move from them, but its easy to get the free currancy to gurantee u the new cookie

As someone who has been playing for 2 months, I got that "beginner's luck" and I thought that everything was easy in this game (Especially because I left Genshin which was a lot of farming), when I reached level 40 the magic of the game disappeared for me, if it became an obligation to play to receive almost nothing, it took a long time for me to get the snapdragon, those black pearl crystals (only level 1) and until today I don't have super epics even after completing everything from the shining glitter event, anyway, I hope this gets better, because sometimes it gets more and more boring to play, sorry for the bad english xd

The only super epic I didn’t grind soulstones for is stardust 💀 the rest took me way too long because of how long it takes to have their soulstones pop up anywhere
I played since Tea Knight update and tbh back then it was way more fun to play. I can get super epics easily before they remove the pity system. Now, you want an epic+ cookie? Hell nah

I’ve been playing since oct 2021. I’m not sure what happened to these guys, but the game has been in a downward spiral as of late. The events they’ve been putting out are so hard to complete. I’m still stuck on one of the last episodes on the last special episode. I can no longer progress in the trial grounds as I’m stuck on level 8. I can only imagine how it feels to be a new player trying to take part in the newer content and how early they get walled in the game

I don't want to be mean, but can you literally stop talking over other people's opinions and complaints about the game? You're in so many of the replies under people talking about how they feel the game has been falling off for them. Not only do you sound like a boot licker with all the "But you don't have to pay! My dad started playing last month, and he's already reached Elite and Master!" and "But everything has been great!", but it's really irritating lol. Let people freaking talk.
Also, just saying, I'm calling bull in regards to your dad reaching master within such a short time span. Unless he's in the cacao server or he's p2w, that's highly unlikely to be the case. I'm in the HB server, having played over a year, and am a dolphin, and was able to reach elite a while back. When I first started out, wasn't even close to reaching masters let alone elite.
I remember joining on release but dropping it for a bit and returning for the sonic event only to barely even get Tails. Yeah... I feel like it's that but wayyy worse.

The only reason I'm staying is because of the story.. Which is also almost impossible to clear without certain cookies (Event stories)

I think one thing that’s of importance to note is that (regrettably) the genshin impact’s first anniversary outrage completely changed the scope of CRK (September 2021) I personally have never touched the game (I’m a bigger fan of their original, CROB and have been playing it for the past decade), but I know that my friend was OBSESSED with CRK. She would play it constantly, whipping out her device every chance she got to play, and she was having so much fun, even without spending real life money on the game. And then the whole genshin impact first anniversary fiasco happened, and so many players started playing CRK because players of both games were promoting it heavily on TikTok and telling genshin players to ditch genshin and join CROB.
(I’d just like to add that this is an absurd statement to make because for 1. the two games are COMPLETELY different in terms of playstyle, 2. Developers of both games have completely target audiences in mind and 3. The statistics provided in the video does not lie: people only play games to fulfill their gambling addiction; extreme take but it’s true lol.)
This is where I started noticing a change to her patterns in CRK over the following months/years: she talked about MUCH less frequently. Before, she used to excitedly show me her stats and tell me what the differences were in CRK and CROB so I could catch on. She just wasn’t playing as much anymore in her free time, and dedicated herself to CROB and genshin much more. Eventually she told me that she ditched the game and ranted to me how she couldn’t enjoy the game anymore because the devs started meta spiking the game environment and she just couldn’t keep up anymore. To this day, she speaks ill of how CRK turned out, which I cannot blame her for.
Edit: I forgot to mention my main point: the spike of genshin players joining CRK drove the devs over the edge to make content harder and less f2p friendly - it worked.
I used to love CRK, I remember when they would gift us players thousands of gems when bugs or glitches were fixed. Now we don’t usually get anything. I quit awhile back once I realized how much the game was making me spend, and how pointless it had become. Everything is crazy expensive, and everything has to be bought in order to be a ‘good player’ if you don’t want to spend hours upon hours grinding for the same stuff over and over again :(

Funny thing is that there was a way to get searing snapdragon jellies, but that was during the red dragon update. You were able to get a total of 600 jellies from 2 events that happened, one was from doing your attempts at hatching the egg, and the other event was from trading resources via tree of wishes, the boat, or the market.
I’ve never seen a game handle power creeping more terribly than this one
I've been playing since frost queens first debut and honestly what you say is 100% true, most of the meta cookies like black pearl, moon (especially), pitaya holly berry are all really high rarity and you aren't guaranteed to get them outside of waiting and collecting soulstones after their banner ends. It's somewhat ok though because even though it's really rare you can sometimes get an ancient/dragon/legendary from regular gacha but that takes forever + out of all ancient/dragon/legendary cookies only 5/8 are even meta or needed to get anywhere in most parts of the game (4/8 if you have rockstar or parfait's magic candy) which makes it twice as hard. Even worse 4/6 super epics are meta and they're all harder to get than ancient/dragon/legendary because (as far as I know) the only way to get their soulstones (aside from gacha) is through arena shop and assuming you don't ever get a super epic cookie or their soulstones from arena shop it would take up to 360 DAYS to guarantee a single super epic and by that time they've probably been outclassed by something else and if there are more super epics released those 360 days increase by another 60 and it's not like devsis gives out super epic soulstones as much as legendary or ancient ones. Then if you wanted the 4 meta ones you'd have to get a lot of medals because if you want *one* you'd need 8000 medals.
This game is ridiculous. And that's just with getting the cookies needed to actually play the game.

Bro, save yourself vote with your wallet and time, if the company doesn’t respect you fk ‘em drop the game, I quit once black pearl came out and am not coming back I say no to this overly predatory games, I was playing HSR and just quit after saving currency for over a month and not getting the character, that’s stupid you can’t actually enjoy the game without paying, as players we got to vote with our time and wallets otherwise you’ll keep copium that the situation gets better whilst you eat shit everyday for no reason
i started playing crk when pure vanilla cookie was released and i fell in love with this game. having the release dates of ancients and legendaries spaced out every few months with most major updates only including epics was great. When super epics came out, their gachas were much more easier since there was no rng required to know that I was able to obtain at least 1 guaranteed cookie. everything went downhill this year, i’d say starting with stardust, since he was released right after moonlight’s banner ended, with that new super epic pity system. I got pretty bored of these super epics after that, and also seeing shining glitter go from epic in ovenbreak to super epic in kingdom. i really want to go back to the old style of kingdom updates, back when we don’t get slapped with a new super epic to grind for again.
Honestly, I loved crk when it first released. I was super determined to get the cookies I wanted. But god damn, the meta and power creeping got so ridiculous. It got so tiring to keep grinding for super epic, legendary, and ancient cookies. Then it just got exhausting and forced me into a burnout.
Honestly you shouldn’t think of it that way. Crk is really fun when you take your time as a f2p and decorate your kingdom. There’s also decent packages now that the golden cheese update came out too. There’s an amazing feeling when you strategize how to beat a stage in a special episode or get a high ranked cookie like capsaicin or golden cheese. There is no power creep because it’s always how you utilize the cookie in arena, whether it’s the toppings, buffs from other cookies, and treasures. Also the power creep part is strange because I just leveled sea fairy up to 50 for the jam and I find out she does 90k without the jam. There was also a Gacha point event that gave you a chance to get a legendary cookie of choice chest (that’s how I got black pearl) and there’s also that feeling when you discover stuff in the storyline that make your mind shocked. But I agree there can be a bit of downsides like the game crashing and the storage but there are lifesavers like just waiting in the arena shop for the desired cookies soulstones when you get them, I quit during summer soda festa and came back late tearcrown - early golden cheese

honestly, this makes me glad that when i decided to pick up cookie run again, i went with ovenbreak and not kingdom. while kingdom becomes more of a hellscape, ovenbreak has somehow become more manageable (in my opinion) with the removal of the cookie and pet gachas
Not to mention how better crob fares gameplay-wise lol, I know it's been the subject of a few controversies here and there but at least it's a tad more decent

I used to play this game a ton. I started playing when Frost Queen first came out, and it was a breeze because the game wasnt so P2W, and it was genuinely optional if you wanted to pay. I left during the last christmas update and returned after 6 months, this game changed by a lot. Everything was P2W, they dont give out codes often enough for F2P, im at my utmost point on where im unable to pull anything from the lack of codes and everything being p2w. I look at the 5A Pitayas in Arena and really start to think if these people can even afford to live in a home because of how much they spent on CRK.
i think you said this exceptionally well. almost the entire structure of the game, as well devsisters prioritizing whales over f2ps, i feel like has made the repetitiveness and power creep extremely prevalent. i've taken months, sometimes even years off the game just because of how boring it became, and i barely stay in the arena because of how many super epics and legendaries and whatever are so overpowered. i just stay in at this point because i find the special stories appealing, and i feel kinda bad for leaving a game i spent so much time (and a little bit of money) on. i understand that codes are not very common in gacha games, but i wish they'd appear a bit more to make f2p players have a bit of a better time. the game has just gotten really boring after the black pearl update. all in all, i just feel as if this game is another thing that will not exactly die, but become a husk of its former self. i might just quit after i get in elite rank.
My dad started mid august, he was already in master 1 almost elite 5. You don't have to pay to play the game.
I quit CRK around the end of last year to the start of this year, and it was probably one of the best decisions I made. For context, I've been playing CRK from release, pre-register days, until then non-stop. Not once have I taken a break from the game I genuinely enjoyed CRK for the first few months, even up till the hollyberry release. That was when I started to feel a bit of burnout and took the game casually. Upon dark cacao release, I tryharded the game to another level, hitting m2 and joining a top 1% guild at the time (this is before the current guild change). Fast forward a couple of months and the guild is now gm3, and I'm consistently hitting m2. But the progression gap was really huge, and at that point, there were no more achievements I could get. I could get to m1 but it is heavily paywalled by the top players in pv server. Guild battle wasn't exactly fun and interesting when you are in a gm3 guild, topping upgrades still have not been improved, and I've completed all other pve contents. So that was when burnout started and the game started to feel like a major chore. Not only that, the pressure to perform well to help contribute in a high ranking guild was really tough. And I finally snapped after the magic candy + ascension update. When the update was first announced, it was what I consider the worst update ever, and it was the first time you actually felt paywalled as a F2P. The difference in spending and not spending any money was very obvious and made it hard for me to enjoy the game. I soon quit the game due to it being a massive chore for me to just login, do dailies and play guild battles. After quitting, I felt like I enjoyed a lot more games. Be it me feeling like I had finally had this huge pressure off my shoulders, allowing me to not feel like it was a chore or that I just didn't like CRK anymore but it definitely made me feel better. After that, I recently got a feel videos of CRK in my feed and started to watch a few. There were a lot more new systems, and naturally, I looked at the meta comps for GB and arena since those were the areas I was most interested in. For a first, the entire GB and arena meta had changed. Basically, none of the old units were even relevant. No epic and below cookies were used, 3 super epics and 2 legends. Even if they were used, only the new epics were relevant to the meta. The huge powercreep is what bothered me. Even in the days of playing the game, powercreep was present with every new cookie and it got worse with every new release. Most of the older cookies are trash unless they have a magic candy. The game has been powercrept to a point of no return, making it hard for new and returning players to come back. It doesn't matter that I have great toppings on my units if I can't get the new ones at all. It's almost like a soft lock to the game, and you can't do anything to recover from this soft lock. That's just a really long rant of a retired player.
Tl;dr: I quit CRK after tryharding the game for a long time (m2 and gm3 guild). It made me feel better playing other games without playing as if the game was a daily chore I needed to do. CRK has derailed into P2W with every update. Powercreep still seems to be heavily present with no solutions at all. I honestly feel sad seeing how badly CRK has turned out compared to what it used to be. Devsis has went from a generous gacha game back in the day, to a money hungry corporation making it hard for F2P to do anything.
Oh god I’m about to start crying (long personal cookie run story that I really just wanted to get off my chest coming up next)
I loved cookie run for over 1.5 years, like literally adored, I started around December, the exact day cotton cookie and frost queen were announced, and I consumed every piece of cookie run content I could find
I got the shitty puzzle game, I got Ovenbreak, and while I wasn’t a huge fan of either, I slowly became more and more of a fan of cookie run as a whole. Timekeeper cookie became my pfp for everything, strawberry crepe was my comfort character. Through my last year of middle school it was great, I was getting top 10k in arena and would play everyday. I was the first person to tell all my cookie run playing friends about Financier Cookies release and magic candies.
Even throughout my first year of high school which wasn’t really fun, cookie run kingdom was a consistent source of joy, even through the endlessly frustrating meta changes when Black Pearl got released and ESPECIALLY when Sherbet got released, I was still consistently playing. I was slaying all the BTS songs and got all the characters, and when I started to stop playing as often, moonlight came out and all of a sudden it was an everyday cookie grind again
But it was also around that time when I started realizing cookie run was SERIOUSLY going downhill. The new episodes were lacking story, and calling them EXTREMELY easy would be an understatement.
But Hollyberry and Pure Vanilla got buffed, and I had some fun with the new META shortly after that. So all ended up being ok
But then there was the Stardust Cookie Update. I tried and tried to get him, but I literally couldn’t. And then after struggling to get him, another super epic comes out? Sure I found myself enjoying the new META and I was found really well with the speed comp when that came back. But then a dragon? And then a special that was incredibly frustrating to get? And then another super epic? And then Crystal Jams? And now a NEW super epic? It’s impossible for anyone to get all of these without either grinding super hard, or PAYING. It’s becoming ridiculous.
It makes me emotional because I use to love Cookie Run so much, and now I find myself playing once or twice a month. It’s simply not fun anymore to log on and see the next super grindy thing after I already failed to get the last one. I can see why DevSisters thinks that adding so many PTW things like super epics and dragons back to back is a good business strategy, but in reality they’re scaring away people like me who use to monetarily support them but now can’t find themselves enjoying the game anymore. I find myself really missing the first Christmas update, or the Dark Cacao update, and even the Black Pearl islands or the BTS update back when it felt like there was actual love and passion behind this game. And as much as id love to return to this game, I cant see myself ever going back. There’s just too much going on at this point for me to ever feel comfortable sinking back into a game I use to be so comfortable playing that I now feel like is completely foreign to me.
I read this whole thing, and your story matches my experiences perfectly. I started a little earlier than you (around the halloween update when Pumpkin Pie was released) and slowly I got consumed by the cookie run fandom. Took a few breaks every now and then and currently Im still on a break from Kingdom since the Moonlight update because it just didn't feel as "fun" anymore, I was just grinding for the meta cookies and then grinding to level them up for the arena (my favourite part of kingdom)
I wasnt really going anywhere with this its just crazy somebody wrote something that matched my experience with kingdom... the only difference is I still love OvenBreak (for the gameplay, characters and stories) so Im still active in the fandom, just not in kingdom (or the puzzle game... I havent tried it as I dont really enjoy that kind of gameplay😪)
I also find OvenBreak players much more kinder/friendlier than Kingdom's playerbase, maybe because most OB players are a bit older... who knows.
Anyway, hopefully DevSis wakes up and realises Kingdom's going down because of their terrible handling of the game and does something to reinvigorate the fandom/playerbase, IDK 😵💫
I've been playing as long as you and still enjoy the game. I play it everyday, bought like two kingdom passes and that's it. I don't grind extra hard and yet I'm excited anytime a new cookie comes out. Yea, the super epics suck ass but we still have frilled jellyfish, peppermint etc. The special episodes DO NOT lack story if you don't skip it and not care about it. We finally got a black pearl's backstory, and the summer soda rock festa was also fun especially with the BTS music minigames

For me, I enjoy the special episodes but none of them grabbed me. Without the actual main story being continued I just don’t really care and everytime one comes out, something comes out alongside it that makes the game even more difficult and makes me even more stressed.
On top of that, I really use to only play for arena and story, so when one of those becomes a stressful chore (arena) when they kept adding Epic+ cookie on top of Epic+ cookie, it makes the game both not fun for me and many others, but also unfair for people who aren’t willing to spend money on the game.
It is a fact that this game is becoming PTW and that their methods aren’t consumer friendly at all. They are releasing good or even op cookies at a rapid pace so that unless you do the same boring chores everyday it’s a struggle to build all of them. It feels like they hear “skill powder is way to hard to get!!!” or “there isn’t enough star jellies” and then release solutions that aren’t really viable solutions. All the while they release unnecessary (albeit kinda fun) other modes, when instead they need to focus on the, currently crumbling, structures of the game like skill powder and star jellies.
And then there’s stuff like magic candy, or the new legendary candies (whatever they’re called) which are nearly impossible for an FTP player to build up to a viable level by the time *another* more powerful magic candy comes up, and ofc there’s the convenient ptw package that immediately lets you unlock or level up the magic candy, most of this also applies to that little baby dragon egg thing that’s just generally a pain for anyone not willing to spend money.
Story is cool, but I’m not playing a little mobile game exclusively for story, I’d rather play a game on a pc or console if I wanted that, rather I and many others play in large part, for the easy and simple, yet strategic gameplay. That’s why even though most of us ex-cookie run players say that we enjoy the special modes, we still don’t like the game as a whole. Because we want to be able to play in and actually stand a chance in arena, or actually struggle in story modes. A story could be amazing, but I don’t really care if it isn’t accompanied by really good and strategic gameplay, which this game just doesn’t have anymore.
I loved episode 13/14 mostly because, A: they only released 1 ancient cookie and that was it for a few months, they weren’t just releasing a new Epic+ cookie every 1-2 months, and B: it had a gripping story and gruelingly difficult gameplay, you couldn’t just storm in with a bunch of powerful Epic+ cookies and win, you had to be really strategic with your team choice, I had every good cookie and yet I still had to think about who I should use and who I should replace. Nowadays I just have like, 1-3 teams I throw at everything and win almost every time. Speed comp with Pinecone trivializes stun-able enemies. Throw in moonlight or black Pearl with her magic candy or whatever it’s called and you basically win everything. The game needs to find a way to balance all of this instead of just adding more and more powerful cookies. It’s almost hit a point where it’s literally impossible to add more op cookies, because then what do you do for story modes? For people who don’t have op cookies? You can always add a easy mode, but that’s kind of a cheap way that just sidesteps all the problems I mentioned here instead of actually solving any of them.
I still love CRK and want to go back to it desperately, but they are making it harder and harder for a returning player. I really want to explore black pearls story but I can’t bring myself to when from what I’ve played it’s just throwing the same 2 teams at every level. I could be wrong about that, it could get harder, but I just seriously cannot get to that part because of how boring it would be to get there. I might get back into it soon, I really want to, but I also really doubt it.
Oh wow... Your story kinda hits hard. I started playing since Tea Knight Cookie and Guild updates because my friends introduce me the game and it's fun. Well, they aren't wrong, it's so fun to the point I played like hours a day and would be motivated to collect all of the cookies.
My fav "cringey" memory from CRK is back then I would simp on Hollyberry Cookie and made AUs of her and even ship her with Pitaya Dragon. Sea Fairy is also one of my fav and I ship her with Moonlight, too. When Black Pearl came out, I became a huge fan of her and she's my top 1 cookie of all time, and I also made theories of who could've betrayed her (back then before White Pearl came). I even watch a lot of CRK content and I draw CRK fan art everytime. The cake shop game during Christmas is my fav update, too.
It was all fun until City of Wizards update, I find the story getting bland and boring. No words can express my anger for CRK when the Stardust banner came out, and the pity system was changed forever. I took a long hiatus and I finally made the decision to delete CRK a few months ago.
It made me disappointed because who knows a once beloved game would end up in a complete p2w disaster? DevSis, you can do better
I can relate I started playing when dark choco had a banner and while I never did get an issue with super epics as I grinned alot 12 hours I got multiple copies of them but it got too unhealthy I left I am happy now😂

on that optimization note; CRK & Brixity literally drains my battery within literally 1-2 hours, and i literally have a xiaomi phone; and xiaomi has like one of the longest battery survival phones in the market right now, that's a pretty big flaw
To me the point of crk is the people you know by guild battles(in a hb server gm2 guild which has a discord channel to do battles). And as an f2p, I think the rewards r quite decent since u can get all cookies guaranteed by grinding everything.
I've been playing this game for almost TWO YEARS, i don't think Kingdom is decreasing. Of course, many things changed, some are unbeliavable, other are good, like the nerf on the difficulty (11-27) (14-22) (12-30). But Arena is a pay to win mode, that can really suck sometimes..
I agree with you, I can't believe how many people think its going down hill. I think arena is fine tho? I've been playing for like 1.5 years and I'm getting to master 2/3 every season, I think that's a nice result, I don't need more gems, they're also available from alliance and guild battles

The optimisation thing made me quit at the BTS event. Because I am good at rhythm games have been playing them for years now and I was excited to play that event but when I played it 90% of the time when i finished the stage it said my internet was unstable, softlocked, had to leave the game it registered as me losing and then I had to restart the whole stage again. And then add to the fact that every month new cookies that were better than the previous ones came out and I had to get them and build them i couldn’t be asked anymore.
Funfact, the newest event has the legendary gacha, you can't reach the full pity for free with all the current quests

You've described my thoughts on this game perfectly! I used to be one of those players who are able to enjoy this game for a longer period of time and I managed to keep this pattern up until the Disney and BTS crossover updates. Since then, I've been starting the game's flaws more than usual and have been checking on my kingdom less as I began to try out other games.
It's truly a shame how much of CRK's potential went down the drain. The characters and their stories are the only facets of both ovenbreak and kingdom reeling me in, and it's a shame because the devs could've done so much more beyond the lore aspect of this series.
Been playing WAY more ovenbreak as of the TCC update, the new crystal to level system has felt like a breath of fresh air as most new cookies and pets are easy to max. I dont often feel locked out of most content whereas i do with kingdom due to it building mechanics upon mechanics that are NOT necessary like the modern super epic gacha system. Ovenbreak has had only really two p2w half updates since MARCH and it feels like every new update to Kingdom locks you out of a new p2w features unless you slend HOURS on the game.
Literally the game just became a chore for me. Ever since I completed master mode and dark mode (we don't talk about 16-30 DM), I only do production stuff, arena stuff, and guild stuff. 😞

Just watched the video, and thought it was great! My personal issue was always the Pay-2-Win aspect of it. Like, I'm pretty sure "A Mermaid's Tale Part 2" was definitely my last draw.
Part one had...
- Peppermint: An Epic Cookie that can easily be pulled in the gacha.
- Black Pearl Cookie's Legendary Costume which, while hard to get, is understandable and I can admit is a really good costume with it's change in attitude and dialogue. It really feels like a different Cookie.
That's it. Then part 2 come out, and OOOOH BOY.
- Crimson Coral Cookie: ANOTHER Super Epic with a stupid Gacha System that requires you to have good luck to pull good Cookies for the mercy system to take effect on you.
- Aquamarine, Mystic Opal, and Gold Citrine: Guest Cookies where not only is it HEAVILY against you trying to claim them (You only get 3 pulls a day, with one being free and the other 2 needing you to watch ads or spend crystals and it's still luck reliant), but even a F2P, unless with insane luck, couldn't pull all 3. Oh, what's that? You chose the wrong clam and see the sprite of the Mermaid you wanted to pull in one of the other clams? Too bad, so sad!
- (Later) Frilled Jellyfish Cookie: HOPEFULLY another Epic Cookie, but why not release her at the same time as Part 2 of the update? Idk if it's the first time they've done this, but eh?
- Sorbet Shark Cookie Magic Candy: Better get back to grinding those materials for their magic candy, because I can guarantee that's going to be a straight shot to Sorbet Shark becoming instantly your highest damage dealer, and everyone ends up using them. If you are a P2W user, you just win. F2P genocide is on your hands practically.

I quit cookie run a few months ago and i agree with this video, the updates are too spread out and every update adds so much its pretty overwhelming at first and not to mention almost every update lately contains a super epic or legendary cookie. the games got repetitive and boring so yea
it's also hard to catch up as a f2p considering the speed of everything
most relatable thing as f2p, sure we dont exactly have to worry about some parts of the p2w aspect (as if we r able to get to gm anyways), but it is there and it is a living thorn for f2ps since no f2p will ever get there in years. and problem is, devsisters definitely do not take their players in consideration (capsaicin? charge pitaya? charge), so there is no reason for players, esp f2ps, not to get burnt out.
also, there is also another thing that is problematic - new players. in the past it didnt take too long to get a fully developed account fully capable of following the meta (personal experience). now? im going to break my calculator doing the math.
powercreep is absolutely expected. but giving f2ps a harder time to even play the game is ridiculous. im still here to play the cookies i like aesthetic wise, but other than that i dont play the game that much anymore

I have been playing the game since the Pearl update, and at the moment I have all the cookies including all the BTS and have not spent a penny in the game. and as in a dream, the main problem is that the game becomes quite difficult until you knock out most of the meta cookies and without guides it is not clear who to download and what to use. Now in the third week of the Mermaids update, I have 80 thousand diamonds for a new super epic and epic cookies. Plus, out of boredom, I'm already rocking the stars with cookies that I don't use at all and I'm even starting to pass the master mod.
I’ve been playing Crk for awhile now, and I’ve seen a ton of different changes from the Gacha system, to how hard the special episodes and events are now. And it seems like they just keep releasing the same type of gacha with more super epics, it seems pretty pay to win and also doesn’t seem fair to any new players that join. Especially the Trail Grounds, I got atleast to Stage 3 on Blackpearls one but then immediately got one shotted and all my team died, it’s probably because I’m terrible at building teams. But also paying £23 is really expensive for only 100 Life Jewels, and it seems really hard for f2p players who have joined crk to get them. I love crk as a game the Mermaids Tale episode was awesome, but I do feel like crk is starting to go really down hill and is getting really repetitive and pay to win, Great explanation btw.

I'm f2p have been playing a couple years now while I agree with a lot of things you said I still think they do a good job at adding new stuff and it can be as challenging as you want it to be. As I said I'm f2p but pretty hardcore so lots of time I'm on HB server currently gm2 if it were not for guides this game would take a lot longer for me to play. like almost all games though playing for a couple years anything gets repetitive, I like the fact that it seems like every update they have new events and something totally different from the traditional game play. I liked the collabs as well even though the Disney was way to hard of a grind, I would like to do the sonic one if they ever brought it back.

Hii, Chichen here. I recently decided to quit during the 2nd Part of the new Ocean Update, while I like TOFW and it’s finally in Kingdom, it still wouldn’t change my mind
I feel like it’s becoming, stated in the video, more tedious and like a chore, rather than being a fun game to play. I noticed this trend also in OvenBreak as well, but imo I still like it.
It’s the huge P2W walls that made me so overwhelmed and I feel like I couldn’t handle my own position. If I missed a day in CRK, I feel like I missed loads of opportunities to do the same thing that could’ve made my progress better, and since I’m so busy *slaying* in High school, I figured, it was the right time to do it.
I haven’t fully announced it my guild discord nor my channel, but I will when I have enough courage.
My cookies are really upgraded, I always had my cookie bar complete whenever there’s a new update, but I guess I won’t be able to tell if my account would still be good or not.
I don’t feel bad for leaving the game, but to the people who enjoy it, just keep on enjoying it! Take breaks and look into different game modes to not make you feel bored or stressed, that’s what happened to me (with the SF and BP gems trial grounds)

Bro, I played Cookie run Kingdom, then it got so laggy and crashed i gave up on it, and i now find WAY more enjoyment playing Ovenbreak, OVENBREAK, seriously, how did Cookie run kingdom get to this stage
i remember when i started (latte banner) everything was so generous. every update meant a ten pull, so many coupon codes. i remember how much i enjoyed playing it simply because it was not a chore. arena was the only thing that i couldn't play well, and i didnt mind that because the game wasn't arena centered.
very late game now. im forced to either spend or fail to get above master 4 whenever an update rolls about - though i am very lucky so it isn't as bad as other players. i am DREADING the next update. everything is just rng. get the cookie, max it out, then never use it again

i’ve been playing crk since pumpkin pie cookie came out and i did have immense luck with gacha as i played longer, but it was only really cos i had a lot of gems to spend from saving up like 100k 😭 i can’t imagine the pain for newer f2p players having to catch up because there’s so much to grind now, i caught up because i had fun with the game but i don’t really play it anymore since getting new characters and leveling them up is so complicated :( i have gems but not those candy things .. trying to catch up to the game now that i’ve procrastinated from the game again but only for a month is probably going to make my brain hurt
As another have said in regards to how you used to strategically plan your team in the Dark Cacao kingdom world/dark mode exploration, I have a similar feeling towards the pvp arena as well.
I joined when the Dark Cacao update had just begun, and back then there were a lot of team options to choose from (summoners, tea knight comp, one shot, speed comp etc) so it was fun to use cookies that you like and experiment how well they synchronize in a team. Even the meta comp at the time with Caramel Arrow and Dark Cacao had counters like Herb and Tea Knight, which are both epics (if you counted Clover Cookie, then rares counted too). Carrow is still my favorite alongside Pumpkin Pie (tho Pumpkin has really fallen off the meta :’) till this day not only for their design and story, but because of how relatively balanced in terms of skill they are.
Nowadays the overall meta is just bashing with an absurd amount of power. Even if you have cookies who are tanky it’s no good use, especially in special episodes.. and that led me to just participating in guild battles because there at least can you build teams that doesn’t require you to use the same insanely overpowered cookies.
I haven’t played cookie run kingdom ever since dark cacao cookie was added, and I can’t believe how much has changed.

same tbh, Elite 2 rn on PV server (f2p) and the meta might seem overwhelming for newcomers and so, but it's really easy to keep up if you've been playing for some time lately... yeah, getting lucky is kinda tough but it's been a lot of time since BP, Tea Knight and Hollyberry Cookie were released, the same can't be said 'bout Moonlight and Stardust/Sherbet tho but still pretty fine LOL... also the ascension buffs are pretty trash imo, I don't see how much OP they're and my cookies aren't that much ascended (PS: I've been through a lot of battles against teams w/ ascended cookies)

Even though i absolutely love and enjoy cookie run kingdom, it is really upsetting how hard it is for f2p players and new players. I am not even able to achieve all rewards from events because some of the missions seem impossible. Every event that you are supposed to enjoy is hard for f2p players and i am tired of it. I've been playing since BTS event and it seems to me that every event becomes more and more difficult. I started to face serious problem when there was Moonlight cookie event, not only as a f2p but also as a new player missions in this event were impossible to complete. Another problem is that all recent events are literally the same type. You have few old cookies and few new cookies and Hall of Encounter. Recent updates are literally same but in different font.
I already feel like this game became like chores to me and i don't feel that excitement anymore

i absolutely adore cookie run franchise and its characters, I've been in the fandom for more than three years (four, if you include the last year when i left the fandom) and was really attached to so many different stories and characters in the games, it's just sad when i look at where the games are now. i really wanna go back to all those characters i spent my time and resources on, because i genuinely loved them and their personalities, in both crk and crob, but every time i tried coming back to crob i got so bored of the repetitive gameplay, powercreep and lack of varying activities, i just got my goal done, be it getting a limited cosmetic for my favorite character or whatnot, and just deleted the game again. now the same happens to crk... and I'm just so sad, i really loved this game but now there's nothing to enjoy about it except for the old things I loved the lore for. nothing new to enjoy, and it's not even friendly to any player that's not a p2w whale that's playing since release
I agree with you on everything. I started playing crk when it first came out (21/1/2021), it used to be entertaining and f2p friendly. I stopped playing it in around December 2021 and came back in around August 2022 that is the Disney collab update, all was well with all collabs despite some drawbacks. 2nd anniversary update went smoothly until stardust cookie came out, that's when crk started to go downhill because of new super epic gacha system. I was lucky enough to get him although the event was too short, not to mention that he's still op in arena due to sign of the stars till this day. Only one update didn't feature any epic+ cookies which was prophet cookie but the rest had too much emphasis on epic+ cookies (moonlight cookie, stardust cookie, capsaicin cookie, pitaya dragon cookie, shining glitter cookie, crimson coral cookie), what's next ? That's too much, I can't even catch up even if I have got all cookies as an f2p player, super mayhem is too difficult these days. Trial grounds are the only way to farm crystal jams. Assuming that they were temporary and ended, there would be no way to get more other than packages unless they were added in magic laboratory. To make the matters worse, you refund some but not all unlike magic candies upon failure which is infuriating. They could either let us fully the ingredients or make the upgrade chance 100% success like ovenbreak legendary magic candies. Super epic cookies should be harder to get than epic cookies but at least easier to get than ancient and legendary cookies instead of being the rarest of all otherwise it makes no sense. Devsisters should tone down the addition of epic+ cookies, say every 3-6 months instead of every month, why does every update have to include them ? Why don't they bring old super epic gacha banner back with guarantee system like sherbet cookie ? There are issues which could be addressed such as:
- undesirable substats especially crit resist
- outdated fountain rewards
- outdated or abandoned game modes like bounty, guild battle, cookie alliance and mine
- expensive trade center
- p2p arena
- slow quill recharge in special episodez
- lack of 2nd magic laboratory for magic candies
- long production time
- inability to refresh the trains or get the train passes as f2p players
- inability to research more than one technology at once in sugar gnome laboratory when it takes days to be done
There are still more but that's enough for now. At least, I'm still playing ovenbreak and it's way better than crk.
I will never forgive them for completely changing cookie run to try and match the hype of CRK .
It seems that Devsis noticed that they dont actually need to continue the game, they seem to be stalling developement for the sake of money.
We arent getting any new ancients, we're getting filler arena seasons that arent based around a legendary of ancient, special episodes arent really about the overall lore anymore (seriously, what does summer soda festa and mermaid tale have to do with defeating dark enchantress).
Devsis seems to be intentionally slowing down the pace of the game and adding in more p2w features.
Also kingdom backgrounds being locked vehind a paywall makes me wanna tear my skin off
Omg yes! Summer soda and the triple cone cup were such uneventful stories. It's weird they even got a super epic for such mediocre writing. Though I will argue that I take mermaid tale is atleast fun and ties back to a previous event (oyster cookie's dream back in the slumbering moon season)
A reason why the story might feel slow is because you can't rush actual progress anymore. With the stupid time-based quill system you can only clear 3 levels max in the newer stories. That's only one single line of dialog per day

I think what the real sign of the P2P catering beginning was the introduction of Ascension jacking up the amount of pulls needed to fully max a cookie. This was done without any sort of way to reliably obtain soulcores unless you count Master Mode for up to three cores everyday, pull more on the current banners, buy from shops very slowly, or simply just get lucky. Hell, when it was originally introduced, you literally needed to pull from zero stars to five stars TWICE. The backlash was so strong they essentially halved it, and even then it's still a bit unfair.
There was also the uptick of collabs. I didn't play during the Sonic event so I might be a bit incorrect on gacha aspects, but both Disney and BTS involved a huge amount of grinding and pulling, and some people who played every single day still didn't collect all the decor and even all the obtainable cookies despite ongoing for a couple months each. And I'm not against this system or even collabs, the issue was the lack of pity.
It's such a shame because I started playing during the Frost Queen event and absolutely adored the Dark Cacao story that came soon after. I've invested a lot of time into this game and even some money (though not beyond any discount deals and passes) so it sucks to see it reject it's F2P audience so harshly.
There's a lot of other issues that have come up with the game just beyond P2P like the diluted Epic pool, lack of new content that isn't grinding materials, etc. I get it, Devsis likely isn't making as much money as they used to compared to launch and they're probably trying to cater to the players who will actually spend money. But when players who do spend money consistently are starting to complain and drop the game, it isn't a good sign.
And with the new super epic banners, you can’t even save up resources to pull since it always use a “special” unique currency for pulling.

This reminds me of a gacha game I used to play called Metal Slug Attack. Right up until its indefinite close in may the devs would keep releasing unites that countered the current meta. So whatever premium you got was obsolete after like 3-5 weeks. Each new unit would increase the damage inflation so much that ranked was impossible to play without the newer units. And they were so hard to get that $100 would give you about a 45% chance to unlock it, where to be at the top you'd have to pull it at least 3 times.
*The power scaling went from about 5,000dmg/sec in 2019 to about 11,500,000dmg/sec in May 2023

I played for like 3 years every single day and was basically free to play. Around the time the Dream Express/BTS/Dragon Fruit came out (It's hard to remember exactly) and they upped the max level, I gave up. I was upset that despite playing consistently every day, I could not keep up with the top 50% and the main story wasn't even passable for the average player. I was at the point where I couldn't get new cookies because of bad luck, (paying a little gave me worse luck) I couldn't progress the story because I didn't have the best and latest cookies despite having almost all the other cookies, and I had spent every day of my life for 3 years to not even make the top 50% of competitive players. I used to be able to go on for an hour a day and be able to do everything but with the guild plays and other new stuff being added it would take 3 or more hours just to do daily chores. I'm disappointed, and it seems to only have gotten worse from what you said. Also, it felt like they were only adding epic and up, no more common or rare cookies. It's also not new player friendly so I stopped recommending to people like I first did.
I've been looking forward to playing brixcity, as I assumed it wouldn't be p2w like crk, since crk wasnt p2w at first. But, unfortunately, it's p2w because u need to pay to gain certain building materials.
The only reason why i am in a good state in crk right now as a f2p is because i leveled up sorbet shark to the max since december. 5a lvl 75. Now i FINALLY have a whale level cookie that can actually combat after months waiting

I've bene playing crk for about 2 years now, totally F2p, and I'm only missing 2 cookies (shining glitter and capsaicin) and I have a 3 star snapdragon. I love this game, but the devs need to understand that not anyone has so much money. So far it's bene really easy for me to keep up with the meta and cookies as a f2p, but releasing super epics every update...is a lot. Also...GOLDEN CHEESE UPDATE WHERE?
istarted playing crk since parfaits banner , and then quit at sherberts banner all the way uptil now and im missing 6 cookies :,(
one thing i’ve noticed is in 2021-2022 you could get the epic on the banner in like the first 1-3 10 pulls, now i end up needing to just buy the soul stones or do a bunch of 10 pulls 😭 though it could be just me.
oh it’s not just you i had a hard time even getting peppermint cookie to 3 stars for the quest and i constantly have a stock of at least 100k+ gems, they took out a huge chunk ngl…
also it's sad that this game originally blew up on tiktok for being so generous with maintenance rewards and crystals in general
I was actually thinking about getting back in the game I left around Crunchy Chip Cookie's patch cause it was jusr boring for me at that point but I did enjoy and love the game mainly cause that was the most generous gacha game I've seen.Sad to see how it changed
The special episodes are also pay to play nowadays. Like the quills to recharge for the mermaid's tale is so SLOW! And if we lose in a battle mission, we have to spend more quills instead of letting us repeat it free of charge? I was hoping to do the water toward, but don't think I will. Now finally got to the second part of the tale...
CRK is only fun in short bursts. I have gone on mini breaks, then come back in between after two updates.
I definitely agree with this im a f2p player and started playing since the hollyberry kingdom update and I WAS ADDICTED everything was fun back then but i generally noticed that cookies with higher rarities gets omega powercreeped by new cookies and this keeps going on almost single update to the point i just don't have anymore recourses to raise new cookies for PVP anymore. The cookies i raised and took time to invest on will just keep getting powercreeped everytime a new cookie comes out so i just quit when Snapdragon came out because that cookie is literally locked behind paywall. 2021 was a great year for kingdom it just kept getting worst when moonlight and stardust came out.
I agree with every point. However, I will say that the repetition of Cookie Run Kingdom is very prevalent in every gacha game. I think there are a few notable ones that escape this repetitiveness slightly, but it plagues them all.
It’s been a while since I played, I remember being hyped at getting two copies of Frost Queen Cookie and then forgetting my account details when I took a break afterwards. Guess I wasn’t missing much lol, only way I’m coming back is if they add Timekeeper Cookie but they definitely wouldn’t.
so i had an account in crk around 2021~2022 but i quit around the dark cacao update. i recently came back to the game and got that "returning player luck" and i ended up getting capsacian, hollyberry, two shining glitter cookies, two moonlights, sea fairy, stardust, and frost queen. the account already had pure vanilla and black pearl (it was my friends account) so if you really want the high rarity cookies leave the game for a while then come back when there's a major event(I got sea fairy and stardust with soulstones since im f2p btw)
I started playing early 2022, but I quit during the start of this year because the insane power creep meant that new cookies made old ones unplayable and forced me to grind for the new cookies in order to progress, which I hated. And it looks like the game's gotten worse since I left... Sad to see what it has become :(
I relate to this. I get by with multiple Epic Cookies when I first played about a year ago, but now you NEED those Super Epics or Legendaries- while I do have a number of them from free pulls, the newer released ones are always exclusive and breaks the Arena for a while. I finally got Pittaya and that made my game way easier, but Ive pulled for him for MONTHS. I am F2P and never will I spend on cookie run but god theyre not even shy about it being P2W rn.
The literal thing I hate is how, yes the lag and the amount of times it crashes. Every single time, I just want to acess arena, guild or the alliance it crashes. So it's very annoying, and tbh there's a point that's it's rlly becoming p2w and repetitive. Honestly, there's barely anything fun. The recent updates aren't as good as I wished to be, some things coming back and some just getting removed. I hope devsisters change this all, make the game have it's fun back again.
i was playing this game for a while i got really good master 5 then the game just fell off theres so much to handle its quite insane
i remember when i got crk and was so happy when i started playing😭i quit playing for a few months bc everything started to get boring. i came back to it like 1-2 months ago and everything felt new to me again, but i honestly feel like quitting again :( i loved this game and im so sad that the only way to get more stuff is p2w
I just quitted Cookie Run Kingdom around Pitaya Dragon Cookie Update, but I’m still checking out the community on how they’re doing. Heck I’m still playing OvenBreak, even after the Gacha system got removed. It’s sad seeing how Kingdom is turning out. To me as it doesn’t have the same spark back in 2021 when I started playing.
Also glad to see the video as always, even though I don’t check out most of your videos. I’ll still stick around with Cookie Run to see how it goes, and your channel as well :)

ive been a f2p player since the end of the hollyberry update and what set crk apart from other gacha games was the fact that you could pull meta/good units easily with the occasional ultra rare one that was sparse but fine enough to pour time into. Im revisiting the game after months of hiatus to find the number of epic+ cookies doubled, dominating meta, and also being insanely hard to get. I could crack the old Masters III tier easily (pre grand) and even got to II once but now i can only get to the newer Master IV with maxed cookies that werent meta. It's just a little annoying to play now considering that no matter what I do im always locked out of the endgamish portion because i dont pay.
The thing that pisses me off the most with crk is how hard the special episodes are

Start jellies are so hard to get that actually level up your cookie a good amount so what am I supposed to do?

The only one I fully got to play was the triple cone cup because it was based on missions not battle.
Also costumes are so hard to get along with rainbow cubes that REALLY pisses me off

I quit because all the updated I couldn’t keep up. I didn’t have enough storage. Cookie run was going downwards anyways. I felt devastated once I wasn’t the guild leader anymore, because I hadn’t played for a long time. Idk what happened to the guild but hopefully everyone in it is okay. Idek anymore

i personally really liked the oyster and clotted cream cookie update. however, the oddyssey thing was just not for me, kinda boring ngl. but still, the gacha for oyster and clotted cream were actually nice, they had this special function of getting the cookie after pulling like 8 items from the gacha (which would be guaranteed to appear after a certain number of draws). now this whole point system is just so unfair, you can pull like 100 times and still not get the cookie or enough points to obtain it.
Getting to the optimization it’s almost dam near impossible for me to play the game now! Before I used to at least do a lot of arena before crashing now if I click ONE THING the game freezes and dies. Pretty much I’m soft locked from playing due to the amount of things happening.. I’ve been playing since the hollyberry update and it’s sad to see the game going this route in terms of cookies and p2w balancing
I gotten burnt out of many games, including CRK (and ovenbreak) but something about CRK just, doesn't make me want to go back to it. I have gotten insane luck with my pulls and perhaps that's why it gotten a tiny bit boring after I completed my goal (getting Strawberry Crepe cookie). Joining around the time Sea Fairy came out, and getting her insanely early gave me a power boost. At the time CRK was still fun to me, building cookies, going through the story and then all my friends slowly left the game so I too. I remember being so excited about new cookies like Lilac cookie but not even an super epic cookie catches my attention anymore.
I feel like after the hype dying down and it just getting SO repetitive ruined it for me, there is really no true goal for the game that can stand (can be said about every game but still) I can be drawn back to games. For example Genshin Impact, I gotten burnt out of it and now I'm back enjoying it again, Fontaine didn't draw me back in but perhaps the creator content did. I watch only one CRK oriented youtuber and that's it, watch him here and there but that doesn't make me want to go play CRK.
I truly miss the time I first joined the game, to me it was the excitement of discovering a new game, playing and enjoying with friends and making some stories about the characters. I feel like they should introduce something more fresh to the game instead of just pure combat, story and pulling. What should they add? I have no idea, but at least something that can reel back players in.
This is just me though, it's different for everyone of course. I plan on making a challenge account one day, like Only Bombers or Only Rangers (absolutely inspired by Genshin's Only account challenges popularized by JavaTheCup). Maybe a challenge or goals set can make it more fun for me again, don't know
TL:DR: CRK gotten boring to me after friends stopped playing and I had no goals that I wanted to complete in CRK, repetition got the best of it.
As someone whos been a fan of cookie run since early-mid 2020 starting with ovenbreak then getting into kingdom when that came out, I have become so burnt out on both games and I can't even play them anymore because of lack of interest and repetitiveness. But this happened SO much more with kingdom than it did with ovenbreak, for ovenbreak i just needed a few short breaks from time to time, but i just couldnt keep up with kingdom. I stopped playing when clotted cream was released, and at the time i had every single cookie including legendaries and ancients. But it was too much. Everything was SO hard to get, everything was repetitive and felt like i was stuck behind a paywall as im not someone who spends money on mobile games. While a lot of both ovenbreak and kingdom STORIES interest me, i really cant bring myself to play kingdom anymore because of how burnt out i feel from it. Thank you for covering this topic! I feel like this isnt talked about enough.
Quick note, Crimson coral cookie (The new super epic) didn't get a new pity system, looks like all of the super epic banners are gonna have the experience points system now.

The main reason i stopped playing was because of the meta. After you spend days trying to get a cookie the next update it’s not good any more, plus it’s not very F2P friendly.

i love this video. ive been feeling this way about cookie run kingdom for a month now (went on hiatus and been playing as a returnee for about 3 months) ive been here since the beginning/when it was still early access. im also not fond of how certain episode levels require a specific cookie to pass it, especially when the level release was timed with a super epic/legendary cookie release. it makes it harder for f2p to even do things like ACTUALLY PLAYING THE GAME. i wont even comment about the frustration i get in arena when everyone has 5 stars of the new meta characters
It has pvp, and that alone is already a p2w red flag. The game also gained quite a lot of traction during Genshin’s first anniversary fiasco along with genshin players finding out that their favourite genshin vas are also in the CRK cast
