Ah, thank you, every time I see English/American style I wanna scream, "Just take the thread in your left hand like normal people and stop with this useless fidgeting!" Now I know that additional work is a "different style" 😅 Though it is useful with multiple colours.
It's quite handy to know both techniques, especially for stranded colorwork! And, you're not alone in looking at another type of knitting technique and thinking it makes no sense. Many knitters have the same reaction to seeing stitches done in a different way from what they're used to. I try to use both techniques (Continental and English) in my tutorial videos and workshops so knitters don't need to do much mind-bending to understand a stitch or concept.
