  • Exciting times! You’ve picked your fabric, decided on what sewing pattern you are going to use, you can visualize the end garment, but….yikes, first you have to pick and choose what size of the pattern you are going to sew!
    This hurdle, right at the beginning of the sewing process, can feel daunting and overwhelming. You might be asking yourself ‘What if I pick the wrong size?”, “What if it doesn’t fit?” or you might just be looking at the size chart a bit flabbergasted and not sure what is even going on!
    Well you are not alone! Let me help you demystify this step with my top tips for measuring yourself and choosing a size to make from a sewing pattern.

    I am very new to dressmaking and find Lauren’s logical approach really refreshing, clear and concise and it takes the mystery out of some very old fashioned sewing terminology.

    Thank you for this video. Did it become the first in a series? If so, is it possible to make a playlist of this series so we can find them more easily. If not, I’ll put in one vote for there being interest in more like this. Hope to visit the UK one day and your shop is top on the list.

    Thank you so much for taking the time to, so eloquently, share your knowledge. My issue is getting patterns to fit my under my bust - I do a FBA however i find that there is way too much fabric under my bust area.

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello Sandie, it might be that, depending on the style, you could add in a dart under the bust to give more shape in the waist. Have you tried Cashmerette patterns before? They have options for dressmaker cup sizes within the patterns so it could be that you wouldn't have to do an FBA. I hope that helps :)

    • @sandie4yeshua
      @sandie4yeshua Před 2 lety

      @@LaurenGuthrieGhani Thank you. With an upper bust of 36", full bust 39.5" and a waist of 34 ( protruding tummy) it does create challenges. I have seen Cashmerette patterns advertised but i have never purchased one. I will give them a try. PS love your channel.

    Thanks Lauren, this is brilliant, so looking forward to the next ones. I always sew my sleeves it at the usual 5/8 seam allowance ( or whatever the pattern recommends ) and then end up doing them again by at least another 1/2 inch and sometimes more. I obviously need to be doing an adjustment somewhere but haven’t a clue where to start.

    Thanks for a super helpful video Lauren. Made lots of notes...however I have an old New Look Pattern that just has a bust measurement and not a high and full bust measurement. I'm wondering which of my bust measurements should I choose to use in this case?TIA xx

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  Před 2 lety +1

      Hello, its likely to be referencing the full bust measurement if it doesn't specify and its also likely to be a dressmakers B-cup if it doesn't specify :)

    Dressmaking shops can be humiliating. Insinuated I was a size 22 at 8 stone 1. I'm anorexic. Stay away. More or less I'd to have 15 inch legs or they were plus sized not nice.
